Upgrading Parellelism from .NET 3.5 to .NET 4.0

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 25, 2010    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework

I'm trying to upgrade a .NET 3.5 VS 2008 solution to .NET 4.0 VS 2010 primarily to upgrade from ADO.NET Entity Framework 3.5 to 4.0However I also make use of the Parallelism Extensions which I installed for VS 2008.

Now I'm stuck with this error message ...

Error 42 The call is ambiguous between the following methods or properties: 'System.Linq.ParallelEnumerable.AsParallel<SpawnServiceModel.PreSpawnRequest>(System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable<SpawnServiceModel.PreSpawnRequest>)' and 'System.Linq.ParallelQuery.AsParallel<SpawnServiceModel.PreSpawnRequest>(System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable<SpawnServiceModel.PreSpawnRequest>)' D:\...\GroupLogic.cs 334 11 SpawnServiceLogic

What is going on, I'm struggling to see what I'm suppose to import (what namespace) to resolve this issue and try and build the upgraded solution.

Problem upgrading to MVC3 - System.Web.Routing

I'm trying to upgrade to .NET 4 and MVC 3.

When trying to compile my project, I get the error:

Error 1 The type or namespace name 'Routing' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Web' (are you missing an assembly reference?) C:\Users\spencer\Desktop\weblauncher\Common\MVCConfig.cs 4 18 Common

The type or namespace name 'Routing' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Web' (are you missing an assembly reference?)

I do have the System.Web.Routing in my references for the project.

BUT - when I try to view System.Web.Routing in the OBJECT BROWSER, nothing is inside!  The System.Web.Routing namespace is not in there - the entire thing is empty!  Could it that the dll is corrupted?  I tried to reinstall the .NET 4 and MVC 3 stuff, but its still empty!

The dll is coming from here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\.NETFramework\v4.0\System.Web.Routing.dll

and the runti

UpdatePanel is not a known element - message when upgrading to 1.0 ajax

It worked on one of my old pages.  I change the web.config, renamed all the <asp.

On some aspx page it doesn't recognize the updatepanel.  It only does on one page.  If I create a new aspx page with a different name - then it works.

Should I just create a new web project ajax - then copy all my code into there?  Or is there a way to get those old pages to recognize the new ajax controls?

Upgrading VS 2003 Project File to VB Express Edition 2005

VS2010: Upgrading projects from VS2008

I just upgraded my VS2008 solution to VS2010 and have run into a problem. I have a .NET C# application that references a managed C++ DLL, which in turn links to a native static library. All this works just fine. However, whenever I attempt to run the C# application, Visual Studio claims that the native static library is out of date and must be recompiled. It does that even after I've just compiled the native library. When allowing VS2010 to build the native project, the only thing it does is this: 1>  LibraryName.vcxproj -> C:\Bleh\Blah\LibraryName.lib Is there a way I can figure out what's causing VS2010 to think the project is out of date?

Upgrading platform - Report Services DBs backup /restore

We are upgrading the platform for our production SQL 2005 server.  Of course, I have done this task numerous times....however this is the first time I will be dealing with Reporting Services.  I am concerned that it may not be a simple backup databases and then restore on new server, because of the encryption keys. What do I need to do ? Thanks!

Problem changing/upgrading properties on WebParts that have already been deployed and added to Share

I have created two custom webparts which I deploy as a Feature within a Solution.  These webparts have been added to various pages on my site.  Due to design changes, I upgraded the webparts with some new functionality and some other changes to the webpart properties, such as the WebPart title, title icon and catalog icon.  After I have retracted/deleted the old solution and re-deployed the new solution (and activated the feature) the webparts have been upgraded fine, however, the webpart properties were not changed for any webparts that were already added to pages.  I can add new instances of the webparts and they have the updated properties (and also show correctly in the wp gallery and catalog). Is there a step I am missing in order to upgrade any webparts (namely the properties) that have already been added to pages?  Or is this something I have to take care of programmatically somehow to workaround the upgrade problem?

Post Upgade task, Upgrading SSIS Pacakges to SQL Server 2008.

Hi, I am trying to upgrade sql 2005 packages to sql 2008 after doing in-place upgrade of DE and SSIS. Can I know what packageformat column in msdb.dbo.sysssispackages refer to, as according to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc879336.aspx the value should be 2 if the package is in sql 2005 and it should be 3 if it is upgraded. But I am seeing only 0 or 1.   Can I know any other method to figure out version of the ssis packages? I am having issues upgrading SSIS Packages from 2005 to 2008, using SSIS package upgrade wizard.   Thanks for your help. Regards, KRanp.

Upgrading to SharePoint 2010 Foundation on SBS Server 2008

Hi all, I've just tried to install SharePoint Foundation on 2010 on Windows Small Business Server 2008 and whilst the literature I've found suggests that this is supported, I receive the following error: SharePoint 2010 Products cannot be installed in Stand-alone mode on a Domain Controller.  For more information on upgrading, see http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=975805. What's funny about the KB ID, is that it doesn't exist.  The pre-requisites for SharePoint 2010 Foundation installed OK and the SharePoint installer has detected that it will perform an in-place upgrade.  the STSADM -o preupgradecheck output is below. Any idea's?  It would be really great if we could start using the shared workspace and ribbon features that are inherent with SPF2010. Jason.

Upgrading from Frontpage to Sharepoint Designer

Not sure I'm in the right Forum - feel free to send me elsewhere! I have several website built with FrontPage (over the last decade) delivered by IIS6. All the FrontPage extensions go away (I believe) in IIS7.5 so I need to upgrade those sites and it sounds like the right tool is SharePoint Designer 2007 (maybe 2010 later on). There is no SharePoint Services involved in this - just creation and maintenance of websites served up by plain IIS. Some of the FP extensions might be hard to replace, but I'll find a way or a widget. At the moment I'm mostly concerned with the Themes that we had applied to those FP websites. My 2 main questions: 1 - Is there a tool that takes the Theme's package of graphics and CSS and turns it into SharePoint usable graphics and CSS? Maybe I can just move all the existing themes files to the new site and do a bunch of editing and relinking? 2 - Is there something similar in SharePoint that takes the place of FP Themes? Without MOSS there are no Master Pages (so far as I know).

Upgrading from sql 2005 to sql 2008

I have a general question: I'm upgrading from sql 2005 SP 2 x64 on Windows 2003 R2 SP2 to sql 2008 SP1. Disks are directly attached, (no SAN).  Can I detach my user databases first, run the upgrade, then re-attach?  Is it faster that way? Are there any dangers in doing that?  Also, you'd think it would make recovering from a failed upgrade easier since they reside on a separate drive and will still be 2005 database files.  I could re-install sql 2005 and re-attach them since they never were touched by the upgrade.

upgrading to sql 2008 x64 from sql 2005 x86

Over the next couple of days I need to preform a sql server upgrade on our Dynamics server and normally this wouldn't be a problem but I am currently running 32 bit sql 2005 on the machine that I plan to install sql 2008 64 bit standard edition onto. Can I do an "in place upgrade" over the existing installation? It is the default installation (MSSQLSERVER). I wasn't sure if this would be possible for me to do or not since I am doing the 32/64 bit jump. Or do I need to uninstall sql 2005 from the machine entirely and then put on 2008? I am hoping someone has been down this road before because I'm trying to plan out the quickest path to get this accomplished. Thanks in advance for any help!

Session objects not cleared as expected, after upgrading to IIS7.5

I've just upgraded my development machine from XP SP3 (IIS5.1) to Win7 x64 (IIS7.5)Since doing this, my app has started to behave differently.  Within it I store users' preferences/access levels using an instance of a class that I store within the Session object.  This class is shown:Public Class UserSessionObject Private _customerID As Integer Private _userPermission As Integer Private _customerPermission As Integer Public Property CustomerID As Integer Get Return _customerID End Get Set(ByVal value As Integer) _customerID = value End Set End Property Public Property UserPermission As Integer Get Return _userPermission End Get Set(ByVal value As Integer) _userPermission = value End Set End Property Public Property CustomerPermission As Integer Get Return _customerPermission End Get Set(ByVal value As Integer) _customerPermission = value End Set End Property Public Sub New(ByVal CustomerID As Integer, ByVal UserPermission As Integer, ByVal CustomerPermission As Integer) _customerID = CustomerID _userPermission = UserPermission _customerPermission = CustomerPermission End Sub End Class My requirement is that on each page request (other than the login page), the application should check that the Session object exists.  The page data is therefore shown based on the values within the session obj
