Cannot create profile sync connection

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 25, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

After trying to create a Synchronization Connection, when I click add I am taken back to the Connection List page, but no connection appears in the list. Running on Windows Server 2008, and I have installed the WCF hotfix. Both services are started in the Services on Server section. I have this error in the event log:

Description:
The Forefront Identity Manager Service cannot connect to the SQL Database Server.

The SQL Server could not be contacted. The connection failure may be due to a network failure, firewall configuration error, or other connection issue. Additionally, the SQL Server connection information could be configured incorrectly.

Verify that the SQL Server is reachable from the Forefront Identity Manager Service computer. Ensure that SQL Server is running, that the network connection is active, and that the firewall is configured properly. Last, verify the connection information has been configured properly. This configuration is stored in the Windows Registry.

Error adding connection filter for user profile sync

Trying to setup a connection filter for the user profile sync. I don't want to include any users in the sync with ExtensionAttribute12 = Exclude. When I click OK to confirm the filter, I receive the following error page:

How do we create new User Profile Synchronization connection so that we can import profiles from AD

We have a requirement to authenticate users against Active Directory LDS in our SP 2010 farm and also import their profiles in user profile store. We are able to setup FBA using AD membership provider to authenticate against AD LDS.

I am interested in importing the users in AD LDS to SharePoint user profile store.

When I try to create a new connection the options that I am provided are
1. Active Directory
2. Active Directory Logon Data
3. Active Directory Resource.
4.SunOne (LDAP) 5.2
5.Novell eDirectory (LDAP) 8.7.3
6.IBM Tivoli (LDAP) 6.2

If I select any of the options 1/2/3 I am asked to provide Forest Name and Domain Controller name. Since this is AD LDS there is no Forest or Domain Controller. It’s just a generic LDAP server.

So the question I am struggling with is: what are the steps required to create a User Profile Synchronization connection to import users from AD LDS and not from AD DS?

We are not able to find any information how to do that in SP2010… From other blog entries I am assuming it was supported and documented for MOSS2007.

There is NO “LDAP Directory” connection type in SP2010.

I am wondering if this is supported in SP2010.

User Profile Synchronization - Creating AD Connection "Unable to process Create message"

Hi,

I have the following error when I try to create a new synchronization connection:  "Unable to process Create message".  Microsoft reports this error as being due to a SUN LDAP error which does not make sense.  While we do have some SUN machines in our environment, I used an LDAP browser to confirm that the Windows AD LDAP  was returning information fine.  We are using a mixed Windows 2008 R2/Windows 2003 domain.

I've searched the internet for the solution and have tried all suggestions.  Have tried recreating the User Profile Service.  Have tried not using the wizard and set everything up manually according to the "Rational User Profile" blog.  Have done as much as I can think of.

Any help would be awesome and very appreciated.

The recurring errors in the Event Log are 3 errors:

FIMSynchronizationService Event 6303

Forefront Identity Manager Event 3 (occurs twice)

Here are the verbage for each error

How to Create a Curriculum Vitae For every user on there profile page?

Hi, I have to create a Curriculum Vitae on everyones users profile page so they can fill it in and afterwards we can do searches on it to see the experience of our people. This has to be done in a webpart. All ideas are welcome... i have no idea how i need to start on this.. i was thinking of making a list and saving all data of everyuser in the list (but if i put a webpart on the profile page i guess i will only have 1 list for all users or not?). Or maybe creating a wiki with all the userprofiles and then a webpart that query's the wiki.. but will the search work then?   What would be the best sollution?  I'm working with sharepoint 2010 Enterprise Thanks a lot!!!   TIM

Sharepoint 2010: User Profile Sync with Person attributes

Sorry for opening another post following this, but I think this case is quite concrete: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010general/thread/2fa02093-630e-4131-bdc7-0b979067f601 When trying to configure in Sharepoint 2010 - User Profile Application, an additional sync source from BDC (as at least, one LDAP Profile is required). The first approach was to create a straightforward SQL Connection with SP Designer, and it seemed everything ok, except I'm not able to setup synchronization of "Manager" property, which is great in order to see Silverlight Organization Explorer Webpart. As I have read in the previous post, someone pointed to setup a BDC with Visual Studio 2010, so one attribute is of type: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPUser. It seamed very logical, and so I tried to do such task. Once I have deployed correctly a BDC with this strong type (SPUser), the result is that I'm still unable to see any attribute when trying to synchronize Manager attribute. In Sharepoint 2007 this was possible, but not able in SP 2010. Any idea of how to do it? Just a bug? I have one very dirty workaround: setup a Timer job to run after Sync, so I can setup this field by code. But, for doing this, I would not need to run Sync process with BDC anymore.    Evotec Consulting

Can ASP.NET be used in sync with RDP to create a remote desktop manager ?

Hello all,      I am new to .NET but is in a circumstance were i need to submit a project in .NET ( not necessarily a web application - even a client server one would suffice ). I need this application to be able to : 1. Connect to remote client from my server computer2. See client computer's screen and work on it from my server to fix problems there3. Drag and drop files between my local server's screen and the screen on my computer displaying the remote client's screen4. Should be able to start a chat session ( text/audio) with this remote client's user to help fix him/her the problem5. If i am installing any s/w in the client - then i should get back this control over the client computer even after i do a system restart of the client computer from the serverMy doubt is : 1. Can i build a remote desktop control manager application as described above using .NET be it asp.net/winforms ?2. If so what all technologies do i need to use and which all protocols will i be using ideally - like ASP.NET, ADO, Winforms - RDP, FTP, HTTP etc ?3. If at all feasible - how complex is this project on a level of 1 to 10, 10 being the highest ?I am sorry if i am totally out of place or wrong. I am a novice and is new to .NETThanking you all in advance for your valuable help and suggestions.

User Profile Synchronization Connection disappeared

So I had finally got User Profile Synchronization working by going down the path of using the Domain Admin Active Directory account for everything (SQL service account, SharePoint Farm account, Setup account) and the User Profiles worked based on the walk through I created on SharePointAdminWiki.com.  But now, the User Profile Synchronization Connection has disappeared from the list...and if I click Create to try and recreate it I get this error: "Cannot navigate to the requested page while User Profile Synchronization is running. Please wait for the current Synchronization run to finish." There are no jobs running, and I've left it for a while and still no joy. I even tried restarting the server and still nothing! I've tried this with a Windows Server 2008 SP1 build server AND a Windows Server 2008 R2 server. I have read @jiel's and David Pae's advice on this. How to create a connection to Access Database

Hi guys, I want to create a report from Access Database. Can anybody tell me how to connect and create a data source from Access data source. A step by step guide is preferable. I am more concerned on the connection string. Thanks.

User Profile Sync not starting anymore

Hi! http://www.harbar.net/articles/sp2010ups.aspx Followed this guide to enable User Profile syncronization excluded the creation of the two Web applications and User Profile Service. I had these already setup by default when I installed SharePoint Server 2010. The first time I started Syncronization service it did succesfully started the Forefront services in windows and the sync service, but when I began configuring import connection settings I got connection to AD and saw all the users in AD groups, but never got it done because a error that said something about "??? WA"...don't remember anymore. I figured out that it was just because that I didn't do "IIS reset" nor the  system restart. So I did IIS reset and also restarted the system just incase. When system got back up ForeFront Manager Service was down, cause everyone told that you shouldn't mess around Service.msc so I figured that I could just stop sync service and start it again. And here I am figuring out why nothing will come back on. Both ForeFronts are in disabled state and sync service stopped. When I try to start sync service it tries a while, "ForeFront sync service" -startup change to automatic but returns to disabled state and in SharePoint sync service comes back to stopped state. Yes SharePoint farm account is in local admin group! Any suggestion

Cannot create a connection to data source !!!! SSRS 2005

I cannot get this error resolve either for myself or any users, and I'm actually part of the Admin group!  Furthermore, a user with whom I'm tring allow to view this report keeps getting prompted for their windows username and password.  I thought that since this datasource was set to Windows Authentification that it would just pass it through? I'm pulling my hair out at this point: Screen Shots: http://www.webfound.net/datasource_connection.jpg http://www.webfound.net/datasource_connection2.jpg http://www.webfound.net/datasource_connection3.jpg Also As far as I know, I've given sufficient permissions to the right logins and right users on my SQL Databases and related stored procs that the datasets (not datasource) run An error has occurred during report processing. Cannot create a connection to data source 'datasourcename'. For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors

User Profile Sync - Profile Picture Export to AD Problem

To start, I think I've read every post/blog/etc there is on this subject.  Currently I have user profile import to Sharepoint 2010 working.  It imports profile data just fine.  Everything in the FIM Synchronization manager show success even.  Its the export from Sharepoint to AD of the user profile picture that isn't working at all.  I've gone thru the steps of adding the thumbnailphoto export under the picture properties.  I can see the export inside of the FIM manager.  I notice though that in FIM there is there a DS_EXPORT of the objects.  I've looked into the SyncDB and noticed in the metaverse table the SPS_MV_OctetString_PictureURL never gets updated with the information from the PictureURL column of the ProfileDB.  It is always Null.  Actually in FIM it only shows one person with an update, and keep showing the PictureURL property as being not applied, which is probably because it is showing it as blank only.  In the connector for the object in FIM, I get the error that I've seen in some blog posts where it says PictureURL (String) is not compatible with SPS_MV_OctetString_PicutreURL (binary), but that seems to be how Sharepoint builds the connection even though FIM finds it invalid.  I've had that created, deleted several times, so I guess that is ordinary, and not sure that is even the problem.

a bit confuse with the requirements of the user profile sync

Hi,   I'm setting up a SP 2010 farm environment, where I want to configure the user profile synchronization (AD based). After some difficulties resolved, I finally was able to make it works.   After that, the health analyser tells me it's bad to have services running with a user in the local administrator group. However, the setup guide tells me to add the user to the group.   In order to clarify, can you tell me what are the exact prerequisites of the user account for : * the service User profile synchronization service (same as farm admin service) ? On my farm, domain\spadmin by now * the instance of the user profile synchronization application ? On my farm, domain\spusersync   I've granted on the domain (w2K3 domain) all required permissions to write properties on both accounts (spadmin and spuser).   What are the next steps ? as my profile synchronization is set up, can I simply remove the user from the local admin group ?   thanks for clarifications, steve  Paying back the community for its help by writing articles : Have a Nice Day.Net Blog

Hi, I have scenario on configuring User Profile Synchronization service on customer site as below. Window AD Server 2003 Domain NetBIOS: foo FDQN: foo.bar.com  User Account to connect: foo\ad-connect This account already set permission as describe in http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee721049.aspx  when I try to create connection, system took long time to process then return error as "Client Timeout". 101 question - New to VS 2010, create connection string to perform test with Oreilly txt book

Hello, I have installed VS 2010 Ultimate and it came with SQL 2008.  I am trying to figure out what version it is and also how to create a connection in place to keep using the Oreilly examples to hopefully learn how to develop in C#.  I have been learning but it is getting more difficult.   I try to follow the steps but it just does not make sense.  If anyone could provide some easy steps to check version and connection method to sql using 2010, I would be grateful. I did see a post for sql management(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=08e52ac2-1d62-45f6-9a4a-4b76a8564a2b&displaylang=en).  I am going to download to hopefully be able to view the database.  We have sql server 2008 at work and I have used the studio management for sql to run queries and would like to do the same with the version that was installed with the installation of 2010 ultimate.Hopefully I can get the connection to the database so I can start learning how to build a dictionary and list for some queries.  My goal is to create a aspx file that will show entries in a database we have at work.  Trying to take baby steps. Thanks for the help.

Problems with AD Connection in User Profile Service

I found a great resource that I have used successfully to set up and configure the User Profile Service: http://www.harbar.net/articles/sp2010ups.aspx I am now tryin to do this in a new environment and everything works until i get to Configure Connection to Do a Sync and click "Populate Containers"  I don't get an AD container for "SharePoint Users" according to the example. Any pointers or assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, David

User Profile Sync - Picture to thumbnailphoto export

Hi there,

I'm trying to get the staff pictures from My Sites to update the thumbnailphoto attribute in Active Directory.

I've setup the User Profile Sync, and I'm able to import and export to AD. However, I'm having a problem getting the Picture property to update the thumbnailphoto attribute. I can't find any errors, and it looks as though the sync is working to some extent because any previous information in thumbnailphoto is cleared after a sync.

If I look at what's going on in Forefront Identity Manager for 'DS_EXPORT', i can see that it has deleted the old value, and that the new value is empty.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Andy.
