Failed to create receiver object when deploying solution

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 25, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi!

I get the following error

Failed to create receiver object from assembly "MySolution, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=d398c9a30aa5e960", class "MySolution.Features.MyFeature.MyEventReceiver" for feature "MySolution_MyFeature" (ID: d159bf93-828b-44d6-a449-b1fe4b8c6066).: System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: type
   at System.Activator.CreateInstance(Type type, Boolean nonPublic)
   at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPFeatureDefinition.get_ReceiverObject()

when deploying my solution using stsadm.

.\stsadm -o deploysolution -name MySolution.wsp -allowgacdeployment -immediate
.\stsadm -o execadmsvcjobs

If I redeploy it using the same stsadm commands again it works.

The feature event receiver is in a dll that is deployed in the GAC in the same solution.

This has worked before and I wonder if there is some way I can troubleshoot this

Proxy failed to create remote object on the server

Hi, I am using .net remoting for inter-process communication between two processes on the same machine 1.   The first process is one of the Office application: Ecxel /   Word /   PP 2.   The other process is another application that interacts with one of the above. For that it needs office application object. For example: Excel The solution is comprised with 3 projects: Project #1: The remote object is a simple Called RemoteOfficeApplication – that simply wraps the required application object (Word / Excel / PP).   Project #2: The Server is a simple Office add-in, written with a Visual Studio Extensibility -> Shared project. This add-in is instantiated whenever Excel is lunched. This project reference project #1. Code: var channel = new TcpChannel (5003); ChannelServices.RegisterChannel(channel, true ); RemotingConfiguration.RegisterWellKnownServiceType( typeof (RemoteOfficeApplication.RemoteOfficeApplication ), “AppObj”, WellKnownObjectMode .Singleton);   Project #3: The Client is the process that requires the application object. This project also reference project #1. Code:   //Get Remote object proxy object remoteAppObject = Activator.GetObject(typeof(RemoteOfficeApplication.RemoteOfficeApplication), “tcp://localhost:5003/AppObj" ); //Cast the proxy var r

Error occurred in deployment step 'Add Solution': Failed to load receiver assembly

Guys,

I've created a VS2010 sharepoint project and added a feature event receiver to my site definition. When I try to deploy it show me the error bellow:

Failed to create AppDomain

Recently updated my system to use Visual Studio 2010, and projects will no longer compile. All of them give the error "Failed to create AppDomain." Intellisense does not work either (except for standard HTML tags), and individual pages will also not compile.

Points of note:

  • All sites are hosted on UNC shares (although it doesn't work on a new site created on local drive either)
  • Language is mostly C#
  • No explicit code is creating AppDomain objects
  • Sites compiled fine under both VS 2005 and 2008 both before and after VS 2010 installation
  • Sites compile and run fine from the IIS server on the remote machines (one IIS 6, one IIS 7)

Things I've tried (some obviously shouldn't have any bearing on it, but I've tried just about everything that anyone suggested on any forum I could find, most of which seemed to apply to IIS, not VS):

  • renaming/deleting security.config
  • running caspol -reset
  • re-registering asp.net: aspnet_regiis.exe -ua / aspnet_regiis.exe -i
  • removing VS 2005, 2008, 2010, and then re-installing just VS 2010
  • adding the UNC path to the local intranet zone (internet options control panel)
  • adding the UNC path to LocalIntranet_Zone in the ASP.Net 2.0 control panel (runtime security policy/machine/al

Create COM object from ProgID in a separate domain

Hi, How should I create COM object from ProgID in a separate app. domain? After I created corresponding Type object by means of Type.GetTypeFromProgID, I cannot use neither Activator.CreateInstance nor <MySeparateAppDomain>.CreateInstance because both require assembly name as one of the arguments... but as I said before I have no RCW assembly - just a ProgID. Those Activator.CreateInstance overloads which have argument of AppDomain type do not accept argument of Type type, only argument "assembly name" (of String type). And neither of <MySeparateAppDomain>.CreateInstance overloads accept argument of Type type (all require assembly name and type name). Any ideas?!

How to create an extremely large array/object (> 2 GB) without using jagged arrays ?

Hello,I had implemented a matrix scaling algorithm in Java (64-bit) for a university project and have now implemented the code in C# with .NET 3.5 64-bit. One of the operations I did in Java was creating a rectangular array with double[][] = ... (in C# this is a jagged array!) to store a symmetric matrix which is used as input for the algorithm. Since I was using matrices with n up to 30720, memory usage for the single matrix object was around 8 GB in it's maximum and with matrix multiplication around 20 GB.So... now I implemented this in C# and I am shocked to see that double[,] (rectangular arrays) can only be 2 GB in size even on 64-bit! That means that for matrices with n larger than ~15000 I will get OutOfMemory Exceptions although there is a huge amount of free memory (I have two quad core systems with 12 GB and 24 GB Ram). When I use jagged arrays in C# (i.e. double[][]) I can create larger matrices. That is because I have one small array with the size of the row number (i.e. n) and then for each row an array of size n, but they are all single objects so I don't reach the 2 GB per object limit. The problem with jagged arrays is that they are horribly slow for matrice calculations compared to rectangular arrays and even slower compared to single dimension arrays.Actually I intended to rewrite my code and simulate the matrices in single arrays (see sample code below) bec

How to create single wsp for multiple projects sharepoint 2010 solution

We have multiple projects (4 projects) in single sharepoint 2010 solution. We want to create single wsp deployment for this. But when I right click on any project, it creates package means wsp on its own. How to create single wsp for multiple projects sharepoint 2010 solution? Is wsp builder which we are using for sharepoint 2007 project (works really great) also works in sharepoint 2010?

Error When Deploying Multiple Projects in a Solution

We have a solution with 16 projects, where all but 3 are Sharepoint 2010 projects. When we deploy the projects in VS2010 individually, everything is fine, but when we deploy the solution (right-click, deploy), we experience one of two problems: 1. Not all projects get deployed, some just give the following message: "Deployment was not performed for this project because it is a dependent project." 2. Some of the projects (currently always the same three Sharepoint2010 projects) give the following error during the "Recycle IIS Application Pool" step: "Error occurred in deployment step 'Recycle IIS Application Pool': The open operation did not complete within the allotted timeout of 00:01:00. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout." We don't have any dependencies set up in the projects except for the ones which are automatically created when we add project references. If we do two subsequent solution deployments, the first one will suffer from issue 1 and the second from issue 2 as well. When issue 2 happens, the faulty projects can't even be deployed individually until VS2010 has been restarted.   A Google search has revealed nothing at all. We're at a loss and it's getting to be very frustrating for the entire team. Any help would be appreciated.   Thanks, Bjoern

Deploying and Using jQuery with a SharePoint 2010 Sandboxed Solution

If you're an avid reader of this blog, you probably now that I'm quite a big fan of the jQuery Javascript library, especially in combination with SharePoint sites. For a while I've been trying to find a mechanism to deploy jQuery and add a reference to it on all SharePoint pages of a site, by just using a Sandboxed Solution. The first part, deploying the jQuery file, is really easy; this can be done in a Module in a SharePoint project. The second part was more of a challenge; making sure the jQuery file got referenced in all pages of a SharePoint site. My initial thought was to do this by using the AdditionalPageHead Delegate control, but it's not possible in a Sandboxed Solution (you need to deploy the .ASCX to the SharePoint root). My second thought was to use the new ScriptSrc attribute you can use in a CustomAction (I wrote about this attribute some time ago). But initially I was under the impression that the ScriptSrc attribute could only target Javascript files loaded from the SharePoint Root (the \LAYOUTS) folder, resulting in a no-go for a Sandboxed Solution as well. Daniel McPherson stumbled upon this issue as well, but neatly solved it using Javascript to add the reference dynamically. But apparently you can make use of the ScriptSrc attribute to reference files from the Virtual File System (e.g. a Document Library in a site) as well! (thank you Frederic Dobon for men

Provisioning did not succeed. Details: Failed to create the 'Reusable Content' library. OriginalEx

Hi there, I am trying to activate the Feature SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure in a Team Site, but I am getting the following message: Provisioning did not succeed. Details: Failed to create the 'Reusable Content' library. OriginalException: Column 'ShowInRibbon' does not exist. It may have been deleted by another user. This environment is running SharePoint 2010 Server, as a result of an upgrade of MOSS 2007 by moving the Content Database. The visual upgrade was applied partially in this Site Collection, not for all the Web Sites. Interestingly for new SharePoint 2010 Site Collections the activation works fine! But not for this specific Site Collection. Any clues?
