Error trying to upload word .doc document to Sharepoint 3.0 Exception occurred. (Exception from HRES

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 25, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
We have recently moved our shrepoint WSS 3.0 site to a new server running WSS3.0 on Server 2008 R2. Since the migration everything is as it was and working ok execpt we are now unable to upload word .doc files to the site. When we try to attach a .doc file we get :

Error - Exception occurred. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80020009 (DISP_E_EXCEPTION))

Other file types ie .pdf .ptxt etc can be uploaded ok but .doc fails. I have checked blocked file types in Central administration but .doc isn't listed.

Any ideas.

Thanks in advance

ASP:Upload control . Uploading into a SharePoint Document Library Subfolder and FILE NOT FOUND error

RE: ASP:Upload control . Uploading into a SharePoint Document Library Subfolder and FILE NOT FOUND error Two Issues, apparently unrelated. I have subfolders like this /ApplicantDocuments/20 and /ApplicantDocuments/21 (where 20 and 21 are my subfolders and ApplicantDocuments is my library. 1. The below function is erroring with file not found, but I confirmed I'm sending the fully qualify path (i.e c:\test.txt) to System.IO.FileStream content = System.IO.File.Open(documentFileName, System.IO.FileMode.Open); 2. Even if it worked, looking at the code, I'm not using argument foldername.  I'm passing 20 to the argument. How can I make sure it uploads into subfolder 20 of ApplicantDocuments? Thank you.     Just testing in test environment. Will tighten code once it works.   public void UploadDocumentToSite(string foldername, string documentFileName) {      SPSite siteCollection = new SPSite("https://xxxxxx");      SPWeb web = siteCollection.OpenWeb();      //SPSite.AllowUnsafeUpdates = true;      //Web.AllowUnsafeUpdates = true;      string Lib = "ApplicantDocuments";      SPFolder destFolder = web.GetFolder(Lib);      sendmail(documentFileName+" "+foldername);

InfoPath / ActiveX error when using person selector field in Word template off SharePoint document l

I have created an out-of-the-box document library on a SharePoint 2010 site.  I left Microsoft Word Document selected as the Document Template.  I then added a person or group column and a multiple lines of text column to the document library. I then went into Library Settings --> Advanced Settings and clicked on Edit Template, opening the template in Word.  I created my template and added the two new columns to the document.  I did this using the Quick Parts --> Document Property --> [column name] feature under the Insert tab in Word.  I then saved the template back to SharePoint. Upon opening the template or creating a new document from the template, I get the following dialog box: --------------------------- Microsoft Office InfoPath --------------------------- One or more ActiveX controls could not be displayed because either: 1) Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page, or 2) You have blocked a publisher of one of the controls. As a result, the page might not display correctly. --------------------------- OK   --------------------------- I've searched around (I believe fairly extensively) and have not run into anyone else with the same issue.  Some have mentioned a similar error when creating a custom document information panel in InfoPath, and suggested lowered ActiveX security setti

Delete document library throws "Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040E14" error

I am running WSS 3.0 SP2 running the Feb 2010 cumulative update. I have a particular document library I am attempting to delete. When I click on delete in the GUI, I get a page that says "Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040E14". Everything I've found so far on the web says this is caused by a SQL server that is out of space. That is not the problem in my case.

Additionally, I have looked at the logs in Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\LOGS and found the root cause. When I try to delete this document library, two errors are added to the log. They are

Error: "An exception occurred communicating with the Operations Manager RMS" when attempting to refr

I am trying to publish a vdw drawing that is connected to SCOM data to my SharePoint 2010 environment. I am able to successfully publish the file, but any refreshes result in this error:

"An exception occurred communicating with the Operations Manager RMS.  Please contact the administrator."

According to an article I read, there is the ability to enable trace logging for the data provider. I have attempted to enable logging by creating the file C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\Microsoft.Office.Visio.Server.OperationsManager\\Microsoft.Office.Visio.Server.OperationsManager.dll.config, however, nothing is logged to the location specified when I perform refreshes (this config file was installed on all WFE's).

Here's the output of the SharePoint trace log:

Sharepoint Checked Out Word Document Cross Reference Error on Page number Only

I see the same error as RHABALA reported in an earlier thread, after I check out my Word Document from Sharepoint into Word 2010.

When I Control-click on any of my Cross References to Page Number, they fail with the warning prompt, they seem to be incorrectly pointing at the Sharepoint path. But when I Control-click an any Cross References to Paragraph Numbers,  they still work. I've added my Sharepoint Site to the trusted list in Internet Explorer, as recommended in that thread, but no difference, the error persists.

Grateful for your assistance.

Upload a File to a SharePoint Document Library - Part I

The following helper class demonstrates a few techniques that allow documents to be uploaded to a SharePoint document library programmatically without using the API or a custom web service. You don't need to specify a document library name, and it will create any folders specified in the URL as required. File meta data will be updated if any properties are passed.

Error while using exception handling block el 4.1

Hi Folks,

i am trying to use tyhe exception handling block of Enterprise library 4.1.

I just createda polisy and used IndexOutOfRangeException and added a replace handler and a logging handler to it.

I am using the NotifyRethrow PostHandlingAction to the exception.

During runtime I am getting an exception on the HandleException event, The exception is added below:

Error Handling: Throwing Custom Exception Types from a Managed COM+ Server Application

Exception handling semantics in .NET are based on type, so you can create custom exceptions that have their own properties and methods. In .NET, exceptions are first-class citizens, and since they're the built-in error handling mechanism, all .NET-compliant languages must support exceptions. In addition, COM+ services are available to .NET code as Enterprise Services, so you can leverage exceptions in your Enterprise Services design. In this article the author describes custom exceptions, throwing exceptions across COM interop boundaries, and working with Enterprise Services.

'An unexpected error has occurred' on upload after changing limit

I recently changed the max upload size for attachments to TFS work items on our SharePoint site.  I did this by going to the http://tfsserver1:8080/tfs/ProductCollection/WorkItemTracking/v1.0/ConfigurationSettingsService.asmx?op=SetMaxAttachmentSize URL and entering the new size in bytes.

This worked a treat, but not I cannot upload any documents to another site on the same server.

I can open and save documents that are already there, but when I click the 'Upload' button it gives a white page with 'An unexpected error has occurred.' on it.

Is there something else I have to set when I increase the upload limit for work items?

question on attachments/document upload in SharePoint

Scenario: I have business need where I need to attach some documents to a document library. My users fill out a form, which is a custom List Form in a list called "Request" but on the same form I want to provide my users a document upload feature which will save the document to a document library called "Request Documents".

In other words, request information such as Title, Department, Description etc get saved to "Request List" (SharePoint List) whereas the documents attached/uploaded (if there are any from the user) while filling the same request form out, get saved in the "Request Documents" (SharePoint Document Library) with the same ID #. If Request ID was 100, then the uploaded document(s) in the Document Library should also be 100.

I tried a few techniques out, and I'm reading some more on Data Source Library of SharePoint but I believe I need some help from the community before I do anything further.

2008 R2 Tuning Advisor reports "Error: Exception encountered(DTAEngine)"

I am encountering an error when I try to use the SQL 2008 R2 Database Engine Tuning Advisor. I create a very simple workload (either by right-clicking a query in SSMS or by loading a file), and click Start Analysis.  In the "Consuming Workload" step DTA aborts, and in the message column displays "Error: Exception Encountered(DTAEngine)". When I click on the error message, I get a dialog box with a title of DTAEngine, and a message "Error: Exception encountered". This is a clean test environment (SQL 2008 R2 Data Center Edition 64-bit, on Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit, in a VM) against a local database. Any ideas about what the problem is or how to resolve it? A first chance exception of type 'System.ArgumentException' occurred in System.Windows.Forms.dll

I've read a bit about this error and maybe I have nothing to worry about.  BUT ... my simple little app gets 7 of these before it even gets to the first Dim statement in the Class Form1!  I found and followed instructions on how to have the Debugger intercept these exceptions but it seems that they are not being intercepted.  I only know that they have happened because of the messages in the Immediate Window.  In the Designer all I have is 5 Labels and 5 TextBoxes.   Any thoughts on how I could get to the cause of these messages? Thanks,  Bob
