I have an existing 2003 R2 SharePoint 2007 farm, and have set up a 2008 R2 SharePoint 2010 farm that we are going to move to through a database attach upgrade. I've got two web front ends on both farms. The 2003 farm has been working great with NLB for a
couple of years now.
Issue: I've got five web applications on SharePoint that must be load balanced. I can only have 4 Network adapters due to limitations with the number of adapters and VMWare. This worked fine in the 2003 farm, as I just had one adapter dedicated to the
machine itself and the other dedicated to the 5 NLB applications (I just added additional IPs to the one net adapter through advanced TCP/IP properties).
Should this work on the 2008 R2 farm? Necessarily when you add additional IPs to the net adapter through advanced TCP/IP you can no longer work with NLB through the NLB interface--you must add the NLB IP to each of the front ends through advanced TCP/IP
and then ensure that the web app on IIS on each front end is associated with that NLB IP.
I've been testing--and it does seem to be working, but kind of slow.
