Progress bar or similar control for web forms

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 25, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I'd like to indicate the status of an item visually (color) or graphically (progress / level, cf: progress bar).

I'm prototyping with an

<asp:ImageButton

and setting BackColor, but it's hardly sophisticated.

Any candidates or suggestions in:

i) basic form [code myself with standard html / asp.net controls

ii) ajax / mvc / latest protocols

iii) 3rd party controls?

Cheers,

Andrew.

Cutting Edge: A New Grid Control in Windows Forms

Grid controls are essential in many of today's apps. Until now, though, most developers using Visual Basic® have had to buy third-party components to get an effective, easy to use grid component. The Windows® Forms DataGrid turned out to lack too many features for the average developer.

Web-Aware Apps: Build Hyperlinks into Your Client App with the Windows Forms LinkLabel Control

LinkLabels are Windows Forms controls that enable a user to hyperlink to a URL that points to either the Web or the local directory system. While the SDK documentation discusses the control, it does not demonstrate how linking is accomplished, nor does it outline the power and flexibility the control provides. This article fills those gaps, showing how to link using the LinkLabel control. It also shows the flexibility of this control for the programmer using the .NET Framework. In addition, the author covers the large number of properties that allow you to customize your controls and accurately place them. Their built-in behaviors are also discussed, along with their use in both Visual Basic .NET and C#.

Use update progress control to change image control imageurl

UPDATE: Apologies for the previous formatting error - hopefully the post is now more readable... Hi I have a button with an image control next to it. Before the button is clicked, the image control "ConfirmedStatusImage" shows a "cancel.png" image. When the button has been clicked (and some other code successfully executed), then I change the imageurl for the "theConfirmedStatusImage" to show a "ok.png" image. Quite a bit of time can often pass between clicking the button and the associated code executing, so I have an ajax update progress control that shows a "bluespinner.gif" image while the page is updating after the button click. At the moment, the update progress updating image appears next to the "ConfirmedStatusImage" control. However, I would like to change things so that when the update progress starts, the imageurl of "ConfirmedStatusImage" changes from "cancel.png" to the update progress image (i.e., the "bluespinner.gif"). Then, when the update is complete, then the image should change to the "ok.png" image. My question is: how can I achieve this? As far as I can tell, the update progress control does not have any events that I can hook into. Also, placing the "ConfirmedStatusImage" inside the ProgressTemplate would not work either, as this only displays

Show progress control

Have following code snippet and my question is following:

The progress controls work fine when I "click" Button1 but does not for the "SelectedIndexchanged" in DropDownList1.

Can someone explain why. Thank you.

Setting trust level for windows.system.forms.browser control

Hi All,

I am using a browser control in my WPF application. The users of this application will be using this control for viewing content that could contain malicious scripts. I want to set the Trust Level so that none of the scripts should be executed. I have added the Attribute to the method that creates the Browser control. I dont think its working though. Any thoughts on how this can be done?

Dynamically Centering a Windows Forms Label Control

I'm working on an athletic workout journal application that will include an Interval / Countdown Timer. I plan to build several versions of this application in different technologies (WPF, Web, Phone) but I'm building the first version in Windows Forms. I want the user to be able to dynamically set the size of the "Stopwatch" display font, then resize the form and have the text re-center in the form, taking into consideration the new font size. Stuff like this is easy in HTML, but not so much in Windows Forms. Though I'm still in the early stages I thought I'd share the bit of math that I've come up with and invite any suggestions you might have. Code Snippet using System.Text; using System.Windows.Forms; namespace WorkOutTimer { public partial...(read more)

Is Dispatcher.BeginInvoke really NOT thread safe, while the old System.Windows.Forms.Control.BeginIn

Hello.

System.Windows.Forms.Control.BeginInvoke is documented as thread safe (in fact, BeginInvoke , EndInvoke , Invoke , InvokeRequired , and CreateGraphics are).

Great!

But in WPF, Dispatcher.BeginInvoke is not documented as thread safe. Which would appear to me as a regression (and not really convenient, to be honest).

Was it only forgotten in MSDN documentation, or should I really use external locking to prevent the dispatcher to get lost in its messages and priorities?

Thanks. ;)

Sharepoint Foundation 2010 - How to control which fields are shown on new/edit/view forms for Extern

I have an external list which contains a DateTime field.  For the display I have added an additional string field to the BDC Entity , so i can display the date in whatever format is required.  But i still need the actual date field so a Date picker is rendered on the edit form.  How can I display the string field on the generated Display Form and the date field on the Edit Form.

I have tried adding the following to the field declaration (in the List schema) for the string field so that it's only shown on view forms, but that didn't work.

  • ShowInDisplayForm="TRUE" ShowInEditForm="FALSE" ShowInNewForm="FALSE" ShowInViewForms="TRUE"

Am i missing something, or is this yet another 'feature' of external lists which looks like it should work but doesn't?

I know i could create custom iew and Edit Forms manually t

Version Control on List Forms

I went to an event and remember something about the ability to run a workflow when you change an Item in a list form such as Allitems.aspx, NewForm.aspx, EditForm.aspx.   I can quite remember how to do that, also I was wondering how to enable versioning on the list forms so that when we modify/customize those forms we can go back to previous versions if we make a mistake.   I notice you can check out, but did not see an option for versioning.
