We have an application server which will access a SQL server via OLE DB API. We have encountered the "0x80004005.11" error ( with severity level 16 ) returned during a procedure call, and noted that following description was returned by the data provider:
"[DBNETLIB][ConnectionRead (recv()).]General network error. Check your network documentation."
It seems that this is some connection issue. In order to make it transparent to our business user, we added in some error detections such that whenever we encounter the severity level 16, status 11 and "connection" word in the description, we will
reestablish the connection again. It works fine with the exact error returned.
However, we encounter another problem which should be related to some network connection issue between SQL server and disk. And the application server is not able to detect and reestablish the connection. This time, we noted that the "0x80004005.0"
error ( with severity level 0 ) returned. There is no information returned by the data provider while we can only noted that "Connection failure" returned in the basic description.
