Hi,

I m trying to create a site collection, and i only have default web application, which is created when SPS 2010 is installed, but I m not able to see any "Web application" for selection on site collection creation page. I was able to create a site collection in default Web App on MOSS 2007. Why is it so in SPS 2010?

Thanks and Regards,

Problem Saving Files to A Sharepoint 2010 Site from Office 2010: Saves locally by default rather tha

Hi we are starting to use sharepoint 2010 / word 2010 and have found an interesting bug/problem. Sometimes when a user tries to save a file (by clicking on the save button in the quick access toolbar for word 2010) the save dialog comes up with the users local "Documents" folder as the path (not the correct sharepoint path where the document should be saved).  (I should say that we are creating the file from sharepoint by using a toolbar on the document library, with the new button)  We are using a content type and a template attached to the document library when we create the file.  This is really annoying because the user might not notice that the document is saving locally and not to sharepoint.  I have found a strange workaround which involves clicking the [File] tab on the ribbon in word 2010, then clicking "Save and Send" and then clicking the save button again.  At this point word 2010 seems to "remember" that it is trying to save document to sharepoint and shows the sharepoint document library. This is a real nuisance which could lead to documents being lost/misfiled if people don't realize that this is happening.  Can anyone help me? Thanks Kevin krd

host-named site collection, 401 error (SP Foundation 2010)

I'm trying to create a host-named site collection. However, after its creation, I try to access it with the browser and I'm challenged to enter my username/password  (validating through Active Directory, I believe) and I get a blank page. Looking in the IIS log I see a 401 error with sub-status 1. I'm creating everything programmatically through the  API. I'm following this article:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288637.aspx# It's not clear in the article exactly what DNS does or should do with host-named site collections. I added a line to my hosts file: 127.0.0.1   altlocalhost And I can ping altlocalhost with no problem. When I deploy directly a simple site collection without host-named stuff I'm not challenged to enter user name/password and the site works fine (and I'm authenticated with AD).

Create a Site template with subsites in Sharepoint Server 2010

Hi, I'm with my first SharePoint project, and we are using server 2010 as a Document Management system. The thing is our company has about 300 customers, and we have to create 300 site collections, 1 per customer.  For each site collection, I use the blank site template, and it's very simple page, as I just need a document library in the home page, and then I need to create a subsite called "cases" and the inside profiles, the users create a document library for each case. For subsite I mean, I create a new site and I choose the option to share the top menu, so basically the site has 2 tabs. So basically what I need is a template that has 2 tabs, Home and Cases. Home with a document library in home and Cases empty. Is there a simple way to achieve this? I guess maybe I have to edit some XML files to create a Site Template. If this is the case, can someone point me to the right documentation. Second, I need to create a Visual Basic project so that the final user has a form, and he just inputs the Customer Name and the code must automatically create a new site with the template I metioned before. I guess that once I have the template this won't be very hard to achieve, as I have seen this SPSite class. The question is, can I have the template with the 2 tabs, o maybe I have to use 2 templates, and write code to create the home site and the Cases Subsite.. Ple

Create site template and adding subsite using site template is broken in sharepoint 2010

I am trying to create a site template base on an existing site and try to use the new site template to generate other sub-sites.  It sounds simple and the code is not that difficult to follow; however, Microsoft has made it impossible to accomplish by having a bug in their template creation process.   //Generate web template from existing website using (SPSite site = new SPSite("http://localhost")) { SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb("/barrington/accounting"); web.SaveAsTemplate("NewDepartmentTemplate", "NewDepartmentTemplate", "NewDepartmentTemplate", true); }   //Generate sub site using the new template using (SPSite site = new SPSite("http://localhost")) { SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb("/barrington/accounting"); SPWebTemplate tp = null; foreach (SPWebTemplate wt in web.GetAvailableWebTemplates((uint)1033)) { if (wt.Title == "NewDepartmentTemplate") { tp = wt; break; } } if (tp != null) { SPWeb newWeb = web.Webs.Add("NewDepartment", "NewDepartment", "NewDepartment", (uint)1033, tp, false, false); } } Error: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException was unhandled   Message=The content type name '$Resources:_FeatureId367b94a9-4a15-42ba-b4a2-32420363e018,DataSourceContentTypeName;' cannot contain: \  / : * ? SharePoint 2010 new site collection display blank page

I'm using Windows Vista SP2 and trying to learn Sharepoint 2010. I'm new to Sharepoint and I'm sorry if I'm asking something very simple. I've successfully installed Sharepoint foundation 2010 and VS 2010. According to the installation instruction if the installation is successful I should see the new sharepoint website home page or ask for login info which will take to the home page. But for me it displayed a blank web page. I was able to get to Sharepoint Central administration page by clicking the browse option from IIS, it asked me login info and when I provided that I was able to see the Sharepoint central administration page. Now I am trying to create a new site collection, it is succesfully creating the new site collection and showing the link, but when I access the link I see a blank webpage. I think it is some permission issue and if the program prompts login, it should work, but how can I get to the login window or how can I see the home page and not a blank page? Thanks
