Error in adding new link in summary link webpart after upgrading to sharepoint 2010

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 24, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I have a weird error after upgrading my portal from sharepoint 2007 to sharepoint 2010 using attach database approach.

The error occurs when creating a new link in the summary link web part, so a pop up screen will show up, then if I click on Browse Button to link for an item an error occur, on the other hand if i click Browse Button to link an image then everything is working normally.

I checked the event viewer and here what I got, any Ideas?

Visual C++ Runtime Library error when opening documents in Powerpoint 2010 from Sharepoint link

I posted this question on the Office Powerpoint forum and did not get much response so thought I would try here.   Here is the link to that post  http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/pptshare/thread/36a58d07-b1ad-4935-a14e-086dae8cb786

I'm running Windows 7 with Office 2010.  We have a Sharepoint 2007 server.  Whenever I click a link from our Intranet site I get the error "this application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.  Please contact the applications's support team for more information."  It asks if I want to open in safe mode and I say yes and it never opens.

During testing I also find that if I have a blank powerpoint .ppt file that I try to save to the same document library on the same site it works fine, but if I try to save a blank .pptx file to the site I get the same runtime error.

This does not happen on all powerpoint or office documents being opened from the Intranet.  If I boot to safe mode it works fine.    If I copy the files local they work fine.  Any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks so much!!!

"Unknown error" when adding link to My Links

When I click "Add to my Links" I get an unknown error, but only with some users. "Manage Links" works, mind you. But I still can't figure out what differs between those users... any suggestions?(People in this thread have a somewhat similar error, but with "Manage Links" instead of "Add to my Links".)

Link to Traditional File Shares from SharePoint 2010

Forgive me for possibly not using the right terminology.  I'm trying to determine if Sharepoint 2010 supports linking to traditional files shares so they can be presented as Document Libraries inside Sharepoint.  When searching I find lots of info about the capability to map traditional network drives to a Sharepoint Document Library, however that is essentially the opposite of what our customer needs to do.  Instead they want to keep a large repository of files out of a Sharepoint database, but still present it as a document library to their users.  I know that the BDC supports linking to External Data Sources, but I thought that is just for crawling, and searching external data stores. Is it possible to present a traditional file share \\servername\share as a document library (i.e. https://home.widgets.com/Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx) in Sharepoint 2010?It looks like the capability is there especially because Server 2008 R2 refers to default shares as Libraries.Thanks.Matthew

I have a list with enhanced rich textbox field. I can click on Insert link, "from addres" is enabled, but "from Sharepoint" is disabled.

Can the Best Practices link on the SharePoint 2010 Upgrade home page get fixed?

The Best Practices link on the SharePoint 2010 Upgrade page goes to a page in SPS2003

Any chance of getting that fixed, so it goes somewhere to talk about upgrading to SharePoint 2010?

Original page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/ee514557.aspx

Link title: Best Practices for Ensuring Application Reusability and Upgrade in Windows SharePoint Services

Drops you right into SPS2003 documentation.

Seems an embarrassing bug.

How to send a link to list item by email in SharePoint 2010?

With SharePoint 2007 list item display form is openned in broswer and user can either copy and paste the url and send the link by email or use the browser's "Page" button and click "Send the link by email" to send the link.

With SharePoint 2010 list item display form is openned in a dialog box, the browser doesn't show the list item url and the browser's "Page" button's "Send the link by email" just sends a link to the list not the list item.

We don't want to diable the dialog box either. Please help.

Sharepoint 2010 - Lists not displaying Edit (Link to item) for Users with Edit Only access

I am using Sharepoint 2010.  I have several lists whose view includes the column "Edit (Link to Item)" in the default view.  I am the site admin so when I view the list the "Edit" column appears with the small "paper and pencil" icon and it works when clicked.

I needed some users to only be able to view and edit existing items (not add or delete).  So I have created a site level permissions that I copied from "Read" and only checked the "Edit Items  -  Edit items in lists, edit documents in document libraries, and customize Web Part Pages in document libraries" under Lists.

This new permission level does allow users to see the edit menu item on the standard "Title" hyperlink dropdown, but in the"Edit" column there isn't an icon or any clickable link to edit in the column.  Only from the menu.  Its as if the icon won't appear if I don't give them Add capability which is what I don't want.

 Thanks for any tips,

Direct Link to a Sharepoint 2010 file from Access, Excel, etc

Hi...our organization is upgrading to sharepoint 2010 from an earlier version.  In the earlier version, it was very easy to link to a document in a sharepoint library, from MS Access or Excel.  But now, on 2010 version, simply linking to the URL of the document no longer works.  It's like the file does not really exist in the location noted if you grab a shortcut URL.

Does anyone have any idea how we can continue to link to sharepoint 2010 documents, so all of our nicely linked access and excel processes continue to work

Hopefully I am making sense?
