Moss 2007 Document check out and check in errors

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 26, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Users are receiving errors when trying to check in documents.

"The Web server is busy. Try again later."

"This document was checked out to your local drafts folder but the local copy could not be checked in to the site. Close any application that is editing the document and try to check in again, or discard the checkout."

"There is a problem with the Web server. Try again later, or contact the server administrator."

Workstation has office 2007, upgraded from 2003. Documents are being checked out, edited, and checked in properly. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Document is read-only in SharePoint, but user sees "check out" option in Office 2007 / Word / Excel

I am finding that when there is a document library in SharePoint with checkin/checkout required, if a user with read-only ("Visitor") permissions opens a document from that library, the document will open as read-only in Word, Excel, etc., but the user will see the "Server Document" bar with the message "To modify this document, you must check it out" and the "check out" button.  When the user tries to check the document out, they are asked to authenticate, and then receive the error "Cannot perform this operation.  The file has been deleted or someone else has it checked out."    How is it possible to prevent a user with read-only rights in SharePoint from seeing the "Check out" option in Word or Excel?

Unable to edit and check out document in Sharepoint 2007

I am unable to edit document in SharePoint, and hit error with a message “The document could not be opened for editing. A Windows SharePoint Services compatible application could not be found to edit the document”.

When I try to check out a document it hits error with the message “object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Do you have any idea on these issues? As in the development server, I am able to check out and edit documents.

MOSS 2007 - Access is denied. Check that the Default Content Access Account has access to this cont

Greetings folks,

I have MOSS 2007 running on Windows 2008 server.  I'm getting the following error when trying to crawl content.  "Access is denied. Check that the Default Content Access Account has access to this content, or add a crawl rule to crawl this content."  I have tried everything to correct this, and i'm about ready to pull my hair out.

Unable to open pdf from document library MOSS 2007

When I click on a pdf document uploaded in a document library it comes up with a blank page.

I guess it's trying to open pdf on the browser. I turned off "Display PDF in browser " option in Adobe Preferences, but it doesn't help, same issue.

I tried other browsers too, it's the same issue.

I am able to open all other pdf files local to my machine fine.

I am using IE 8 on my machine (Windows 7) and the Sharepoint server is MOSS 2007.

The file reached the maximum download limit. Check that the full text of the document can be meaning

I'm facing an issue with the indexing.

I have 1 WFE+Index server+DB server.

Index server is not installed with MS FIlter pack 1.0

When crawling, the there will be document with warning in crawl log:
The file reached the maximum download limit. Check that the full text of the document can be meaningfully crawled.

Documents that with warning are such as doc, ppt, xls, docs, ppts and many others.
However, I view into the successful crawled document, there are doucments with ext doc and ppt.

For large file index, there are MaxGrowthFactor + MaxDownLoadSize required to be added into the index server.

As my understanding is, MS Filter Pack should installed into index server(already did, correct me if i'm wrong).

I looked into the Office SharePoint Seach(CA>Services in farm), if the server is appointed to "Use this server as indexing server", then MS Filter Pack is suppose to be installed into that particular server as well.

At the bottom, there also has another option is "Use all web front end for crawling".

The question here is, IF the option "Use all web front end for crawling" is selected.
Does the WED FRONT END Server required to installed the Ms Filte

Check-out issue when opening a document from a document library when a read-only copy is open

We have an issue when a user has a read-only copy of a document from SharePoint open and then tries to check-out and edit another copy of the document (i.e. from the document library) the checked out copy is not connected to the web server. For the user it will look the same they will make edits, save and then close, but when they do so the document is not updated in SharePoint - it may be saved locally in their SP drafts, but the user will think that they have lost their version. We then get the checked out to another user error and you have to discard changes to get the document working again. Steps to reproduce this issue: * click on the name of a office doc on a Document Library * Make sure "Read Only" is selected and click "ok" * Minimize open document * click on the same file on the Document Library * Make sure "check out and edit" is selected and the "Use my local drafts folder" checkbox is ticked. Select OK. * Edit document and press save. Changes are never saved back in SharePoint, they are only on the local draft. We are using MOSS with SP2. Clients are on Office 2003 and 2007 Is this normal behaviour? Is there anything that can be done to prevent this from happening?

Seperate out the Document Libraries to individual Sites in MOSS 2007

We are using the MOSS 2007 with SP2. We are having three different Document Libraries for three different projects under same site. We have the requirement to migrate each library to shift to the individual sites. We need to do this with all the content, settings and and the permissions. It's fine to migrate the database and settings individually i.e. content database seperately and site settings seperately. Is anyone have this kind of migration?

Sharepoint check-out document cross reference problem

Hi I have a problem with check-outed word document from Sharepoint Services 3.0. After I check-out document from Sharepoint, cross references in Word document stop working. After I click to cross reference (Ctrl+Click to follow link), Word show me warning message: "Some files can contain viruses or otherwise be harmful to your computer...Would you like to open this file". There is two buttons - OK and cancel. After pressing OK nothing happens. I have Sharepoint Services 2003 (clear installation, no custom code), MS Word 2007 and trying .doc file format. I tried this on two Sharepoints and two client computers, but it is the same. I tried http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B925757&x=8&y=9 , but did not help. How can I disable this behavior? Thanks

Incoming Mail enabled MOSS 2007 document libraries.

I would like to ask is there a way to get the incoming emails to go into a subfolder because right now the email goes into the root of the document library?

Sanity Check - Upgrade 2003 to 2007

The issue I'm working on in this post (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/01069452-8e84-4c78-ab50-459eb9b7254f) is a step in a bigger process so I figured this question should have its own thread. I've created a site collection in MOSS 2007 that will host ~1500 subsites that are currently in SPS 2003. After a lot of reading, I've concluded that the best way to migrate these is to spin up a VM running SharePoint 2003 and migrate these sites into it. I will then upgrade this VM to 2007 and then migrate them to my production 2007 environment. The point of this is to convert these specific sites to 2007 without touching the original implementation.   Is this over kill or is this a logical route to go?

Intercept Check-In Event of Document Library in SharePoint 2010

we need to intercept the default check-in Event of the Document Library. The detailed requirements is as follows.   1. Intercept the check-in Event of Document Library. 2. Instead of the default check-in  page (normally this is the layout's checkin.aspx page), show our custom application page. 3. In the custom application page, allow users to provide some inputs. Validate the input values against values stored in database. 4. Once validated successfully, allow user to check-in the documents. Else, do not allow user to check-in the document.   One more additional requirement is the above things should happen only for our custom content type. In order to achieve the same, we are planning for deploying our custom document content types and perform the above operations on check-in event of the documents.     Another approach of performing the same is , have our own custom ECB Menu. The detailed process is as below.   a. Customize the check in menu (ECB) b. Show the custom form and get the inputs from user and do the validations c. On the OK button click, if validation is success, then update the meta data and check in the document or deny the process. d. But in this approach, we need to check the libraries version settings and that default functionalities should be added automatically to the check in process.   At this point of time, we a
