Reset site collection content types

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 24, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi,

I have a "Test Document" content type inheriting from the default "Document" content type which, in turn, inherits from "Item". The "Test Document" is a MS Word template document (as is "Document").

I went into the "Site Settings" of the site collection, selected "Site content types" -> "Document" -> "Advanced Settings" and while the "Update all content types inheriting from this type" was set to Yes, I clicked OK.

Now when I go back to the documents library and open the "New" menu to create a new document, both the "Document" and the "Test Document" logos are changed to plain icons (not the MS Word icons it had before) and when I click it I get the "Upload Document" dialog.

Is there a way to restore the site collection's content types to their default settings?

Thank you,

Sagy

Attach site collection data from content databases

I have migrated my Sharepoint from a stand-alone installation to a server farm installation by following this article. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262325%28office.12%29.aspx Every step was completed successfully, except for the last one (4): Install Office SharePoint Server 2007 on a new farm Move databases from the stand-alone server to the server farm Create and attach data from the Shared Services Provider (SSP) Attach site collection data from content databases Whenever I try using the stsadm -o extendvs I get the following message: The IIS Web Site you have selected is in use by SharePoint.  You must select another port or hostname.   The following is the command: STSADM.EXE -o extendvs -url http://dms01 -ownerlogin group\dms -owneremail dms@xxx.com -exclusivelyusentlm -databaseserver jagrb -databasename WSS_Content -apcreatenew -apidname DMS -apidtype configurableid -apidlogin group\dms -apidpwd xxxx   So far, all my efforts to Attach the site collection data from the content databases have failed. Duplicate Fields during list creation from content types and site columns

I am trying to create a List in Sharepoint 2010 using Site Columns and Content Types. It results in creating duplicate fields in the list for the Site Columns used. Here is the details description of what I was doing.

I have created two site columns

<Field Type="Number" DisplayName="Start Coordinate" Required="TRUE" EnforceUniqueValues="FALSE" Indexed="FALSE"
Group="QMS" ID="{A3F2D108-11B5-4B49-9633-338D27227E12}"
Name="StartCoordinate" Overwrite="TRUE" />

<Field Type="Number" DisplayName="End Coordinate" Required="TRUE" EnforceUniqueValues="FALSE" Indexed="FALSE"
Group="QMS" ID="{06B927BB-C354-4A0A-AE88-9C14E55EAB27}"
Name="EndCoordinate" Overwrite="TRUE" />

My Site, My Content 'reset' recreated my content

Hello all,

Today I was doing some work with my portal, and posting some blog entries.  Simple stuff really.  I left, forced a sync on the profiles service and came back to my site and found that when I clicked on My Content it re-created everthing as if I was a new user.  I lost weeks of blog posts, files that I was sharing, and my entire OneNote database which is quite extensive.

Around the time that I ran into this problem there were three log entries that were unique.

7362 Publishing Cache

Object Cache: The super user account utilized by the cache is not configured. This can increase the number of cache misses, which causes the page requests to consume unneccesary system resources.

To configure the account use the following command 'stsadm -o setproperty -propertyname portalsuperuseraccount -propertyvalue account -url webappurl'. The account should be any account that has Full Control access to the SharePoint databases but is not an application pool account.

Additional Data:

Current default super user account: SHAREPOINT\system

User account domain\app-mysites

Exact same 3 times..

Any thoughts?

Delete a Site Collection without a Content database

I have a site collection whose content database has been deleted with no backup. Now I want to delete the site collection and i get what seems to be a sql login error. I know the account I am using has enough access to the sql server (used this account to install sharepoint). I am guessing it is complaining because it can't find the database.

How to Specify Content Database for a Site Collection Restore from Backup

Hello,

I have prepared code that first creates a new Content Database within a specified Web Application, then restores a Site Collection backup to that same Web Application.  Unfortunately, the Restore doesn't provide an option to select the Content Database that was just created.  So, is there something that I might do to ensure that the Site Collection gets restored to the Content Database of my choice, programmatically?  If not, is there something I can do to change the Content Database for the newly restored Site Collection?  All ideas would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Doug

Wss v 3 site collection - can't add /change /edit any content

Hi guys,

I have noticed a very strange thing in my wss v 3 site. Since a few days Nobody can add / modify / delete contents of site. Site actions button give only Site settings options, Not like before edit page etc, View all site content does not show Create button. Any document library or list does not shpow anything but Actions button.  It is clearly a lost permission issue, however  when I checked and rechecked all of those are correct. I'm even login as an administrator which is listed as site collection admin and nothing. STSADM.EXE" -o backup -url let me do a backup however option restore give access denied HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED). Of course I'm running as site collection admin. Where to look for answers ?

Creating Site Collection in Existing Content Database

Hi All,

I'm trying to create a site collection in a existing content database. I haven't found a method in Sharepoint object model to perform such a action. There is an option to create a site collection in a new database using the following command:

SPSiteCollection.Add(url, siteDescription, siteDescription, 1033, siteTemplate,
                                                                siteCollPrimaryAdmin.LoginName, siteCollPrimaryAdmin.Name, siteCollPrimaryAdmin.Email,
                                                                siteCollSecondaryAdmin.LoginName, siteCollSecondaryAdmin.Name, siteCollSecondaryAdmin.Email,
                                                                strSQLServerName, siteContentDBName, null, null);

Is there a different object to do this creation on existing database? Any ideas to approach this problem will be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Join related data by using content types and site columns?

Hi guys

Say for instance if I have process column and a sub - process column, and if I chose a process I want to only show the relevant sub - processes instead of all. I need to solve this by using content types and site columns. Any ideas, or guides on how I can acheive that?

Site content types Vs List content types

Hello all,

While creating my first SP site using visual studio 2010; following the best practices guidelines from Microsoft I created a content type for each data entity and of course a site column for every and each field in those entities -can't describe how tedious this was-. Anyway, when I started creating List definitions based on those content types I noticed that the CAML xml code is literally copied to the schema.xml rather than referencing it. If I made any changes to the original content type it's not reflected in those lists. On the other hand when I make changes to the list content type -in contrast to the site content type- things are reflected on the site properly. Why the redundancy?

I mean I even tried to use <ContentTypeRef> in the schema.xml to reference my site content type and get rid of the redundancy with no luck!!! Content Types and even fields must be defined int the schema.xml with no direct relation to the site content type already defined in the project!! Fields must be defined in the <fields> element in schema.xml and referenced in the <contentType> element of schema.xml too, regardless that they're already defined at the site level!!

So, if I have to define content types/fields at the level of the list, and visual studio can't automatically track changes made to site content types, why bot

working with site content types

I have a feature that is installed for my site collection. It provides a contenty type from which a custom list is made available when creating a list.  In the site content type gallery of my collection I edited the content type in question (removed a number of its columns, and re-ordered them).  I notice though, that when I create a new list that uses this content type, it still has all the columns I deleted, and the columns that do appear are not in the order that I specified.  Can someone explain this to me please? Doesn't this new list get its content type from the content type within my site content gallery?  Or is it getting some original definition out on the SP server somewhere?

There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what your are trying to accomplish.
