SERIALIZE JAVASCRIPT OBJECT TO SERVER PERSON CLASS

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 24, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hi,

I am trying to learn how to pass a JavaScript object to a server side class and have been successful when it is a simple JavaScript object.

Suppose I have this Person class:

public class Person
{
  public string FirstName { get; set; }
  public string LastName { get; set; }
  public string Address { get; set; }
  public string City { get; set; }
  public string Zip { get; set; }
}

And this web service method:

[WebMethod]
  public void AddPerson(Person NewPerson)
  {
    NewPerson.Add();
  }

On the client I can create a JavaScript object like the one below and then pass it to the server. On the server side the Person class will have all properties populated by the values in the JavaScript object.

"{"NewPerson":{"FirstName":"Jon","LastName":"Doe","Address":"15 Stanley Road","City":"AnyCity","State":"AnyState","Zip":"55555"}}"

This all works fine and as you can see the JavaScript object and the Person class have no collection (array) properties.

However, I would like my Person class to have a collection of phone number. So I person could have a home

Determine CSS class, set by javascript, server-side

 I have a website and I use javascript/jQuery to change the CSS classes associated with various controls on the page to hide and displey them based upon user selections.  I want to be able to determine the current Css class for an item on my page when the page is posted back to the server.  Is there any way to determine the current Css class for a control on the server when it's been changed using javascript client-side?

Any suggestions would be greatly apprciated.

Thanks.

call JavaScript - jQuery code from ASP.NET Server-Side

jQuery got so close to me lately that I can see myself adding the scripts to my project almost unconsciously. The thing is, jQuery is very useful for me, in almost all situations and it has been a do or die enhancement for all my project since I first put my hands on it.

Of course while using it, you encounter few situations which need a bit of research to solve, mostly when you are trying to combine it with some other technologies like: UpdatePanels and ASP.NET Ajax. For instance there are many situations when I would like to run some jQuery magic based on some decision that I make on the server side.

Server Farms: Application Center 2000 Offers World-Class Scalability

Application Center 2000 simplifies the deployment of a Microsoft .NET-based application to clusters, which are shared-nothing, loosely coupled computers that appear as one virtual computer. This allows all the computers in Application Center 2000 clusters to provide the same service or Web application at the same time. This article explains network load balancing and component load balancing for COM+ components with Application Center 2000. Accessing the features of Application Center 2000 though the MMC snap-in interface and the command-line interface for batching administrative tasks is also covered.

Building a Custom Data Grid: Performing Ad Hoc Web Reporting with a VBScript 5.0 Class Object

A flexible, customizable grid for displaying data is a useful tool for ASP developers. It allows Web visitors to customize their view of your data. This article takes the data grid presented in "Ad Hoc Web Reporting with ADO 2.0" by John Papa and Charles Caison (MIND, December 1998) and adds handy features such as a finds feature that supports multiple finds and a mode for adding and editing records. This version also improves response time by allowing asynchronous record download and it componentizes the code so it can be used as a standalone VBScript class object that can be reused in other pages.

A Young Person's Guide to The Simple Object Access Protocol: SOAP Increases Interoperability Across

The Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) facilitates interoperability among a wide range of programs and platforms, making existing applications accessible to a broader range of users. SOAP combines the proven Web technology of HTTP with the flexibility and extensibility of XML. This article takes you on a comprehensive tour of Object RPC technology to help you understand the foundations of SOAP and the ways it overcomes many of the limitations of existing technologies, including DCOM and CORBA. This is followed by a detailed treatment of the SOAP encoding rules with a focus on how SOAP maps onto existing ORPC concepts.

How to: Serialize Hashtable contained inside another object that is serialized as an array of object

Update:  I've added the entire program in a single block of C# text near the end of these posts that can be placed into a C# Program.cs file of a console project.   I have a class called MyHashtable that inherits from Hashtable and implements IXmlSerializable.  MyHashtable is contained inside another object called MyObject and I need to xml serialize an array of MyObject[].  Whenever I xml deserialize, the hashtable is deserialized, but only 1 of MyObjects from the MyObject[] array is deserialized.  The ReadXml uses "while (reader.NodeType != XmlNodeType.EndElement)" so I don't think the reader is consuming all of the xml internally.   Does anyone know why this is happening?  Thanks.

Proxy failed to create remote object on the server

Hi, I am using .net remoting for inter-process communication between two processes on the same machine 1.   The first process is one of the Office application: Ecxel /   Word /   PP 2.   The other process is another application that interacts with one of the above. For that it needs office application object. For example: Excel The solution is comprised with 3 projects: Project #1: The remote object is a simple Called RemoteOfficeApplication – that simply wraps the required application object (Word / Excel / PP).   Project #2: The Server is a simple Office add-in, written with a Visual Studio Extensibility -> Shared project. This add-in is instantiated whenever Excel is lunched. This project reference project #1. Code: var channel = new TcpChannel (5003); ChannelServices.RegisterChannel(channel,true ); RemotingConfiguration.RegisterWellKnownServiceType( typeof (RemoteOfficeApplication.RemoteOfficeApplication ), “AppObj”, WellKnownObjectMode .Singleton);   Project #3: The Client is the process that requires the application object. This project also reference project #1. Code:   //Get Remote object proxy object remoteAppObject = Activator.GetObject(typeof(RemoteOfficeApplication.RemoteOfficeApplication), “tcp://localhost:5003/AppObj" ); //Cast the proxy var r

How to check effective permissions for a user or group for a SQL server object or whole server?

Guys, How do I see effective permissions for a user or group for a SQL server object or whole server? For example, a user is not listed in security/logins, but he is a member of few groups and some of them have assigned permissions on SQL server (again either directly or through membership in other groups) Even when I select an object (a table), check properties/permission – it doesn’t let me select any principal, except those listed on security/logins… Anyway, what is the right way to see effective permissions for a user or group? Sorry for asking such a simple question, I’ve searched but found nothing relevant.

Can you Serialize a Derived class, cast as it's base?

Can you Serialize a Derived class, cast as it's base? (Using the stock XmlSerializer.Serialize?)   (The overall goal I'm trying to achieve, is I have 1 object, and I need to serialize it in 2 different ways, 1 with full info, one with half info, and I *thought* a base class would be the way to do it)   e.g. I have a base and derived class   [XmlRoot("MyBaseXml" )] public class MyBaseClass { public string baseField = "base" ; } [XmlRoot("MyDerivedXml" )] public class MyDerviedClass : MyBaseClass { public string derivedField = "derived" ; }   I make a new instance of my derived class MyDerviedClass obj = new MyDerivedClass();   And then I have the following serialization method(s)   /// <summary> /// Saves an object to a file /// </summary> /// <param name="obj"> Object to save</param> /// <param name="fileName"> Path to output to</param> public void Serialize(object obj, string fileName) { Type type = obj.GetType(); XmlSerializer xmlSerializer = new XmlSerializer(type); Serialize(obj, fileName, type); } /// <summary> /// Saves an object to a file casting it as a specific type /// </summary> /// <param name="obj"> Object to save</param> /// <param name="fileName"
