Need a Best Practice to populate data

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 24, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I am in urgent need of best practice to design a web form. I am getting a 20 colums from rhe database table. I have to all this information in textboxes.

And need to update those information to database after changes made from the user.

I need a very good way to bind the data to a page dynamically. I can do using a Grid view. But the problem is I need to fit all those text fields in the page without any scrolling. So any one please tell me how to do it. Do I need to use table in a repeater or data list or any thing. I don't want to do normal binding. I want to customize my page using place holders or template etc.

And one more thing.... how to create textboxes dynamically... I will get data from different tables with different number colums. I want to show that different data according to user clicks on different types of items...example: if user click on car i need to show the detalis of car (contains 5 colums), if i click on bus i need show all info about bus (contains 6 colums). Grid view can populate data according to data source...but the problem is I need to show in textboxes in a rowwise ....please help me.....

Best practice? Accessing subset of data based on user

I have a DB and associated Asp.net 3.5 web app. The database holds information on our clients. We're adding client access functionality and I need to know how best to restrict user access to data only pertaining to their client.

The clients are stored in a hierarchy and each user can be associated with multiple clients. The user should only be able to access the data for their associated clients and any sub clients thereof.

My initial thought is to add a collection of clients to their profile, then use that to filter all queries; however, my gut instinct tells me that using the profile for such a security function is inadvisable.

Could anyone provide any insight on a best practice for this? I'm sure it must be a pretty common need.

Best practice: Where to save data from application pages?

Hello, I have a feature scoped at site level which contains some application pages, where I need to save some "settings data" from. I'm thinking I should use some hidden lists in the root of the site collection to save this data. For example one of the application pages registers timer jobs that should then use information entered in the application page. I'm wondering if this is, in your opinion, the right approach? Thanks.

Populate a Data Flow Task's variables with values from a .dtsConfig file?

I have an SSIS Project to import exchange rates from an XML file into SQL. The project works when I have certain values hard-coded into variables, such as the URL of the XML File, proxy username and passwords etc. I decided to put in a .dtsConfig file, and have it update the values of the variables in the data flow task. So, one of my SSIS Packages in this solution is called ECBDailyRates.dtsx. It contains one control flow, which is a data flow task. The data flow task is a script task which does some XPATH on an XML file, and then provides outputs to an OLE DB Destination, which in turn puts the data into a table in SQL. That much worked before I put in the dtsConfig file. There are a few variables declared inside the data flow task, such as; PricesXMLUriDaily, String ProxyAddress, String ProxyAddressPort, Int32 etc. etc. These are now being updated from the dtsConfig, which is below. It was my understanding that SSIS would run through the config, and update any of the variables as required, and then run my data tasks. However when SSIS runs my script task, none of the variables have been populated, and so it falls over... as it were :) <?xml version="1.0"?> <DTSConfiguration> <DTSConfigurationHeading> <DTSConfigurationFileInfo GeneratedBy="...." GeneratedFromPackageName="dim_Institution" GeneratedFromPackageID="

Is there any way to populate an InfoPath form field with the data from the site content type column?

I have a Form library with a form template.

The templat has a field "Office name" which should not be a fixed list of values, but a dynamical list, feeded from a different type of form. I'm a novice with InfoPath - Sharepoint and I want to find out, how can I can give users a possibility to create and maintain a list of offices and also have this list as a selection list inside main library form - ALL inside one library, if possible.

I assumed that if I publish main form (Itinerary) as a library template form and lookup form (OfficeInfo) as a SiteContent, I should be able somehow to connect to siteContent column and it's information. But I cannot see how - Site Content Gallery is not appering as a Connection item.

Can I use SiteConenct for this purpose or there are other ways to create end-user lookup lists?

Thank you!

How to set items from Select Command in Data Source to populate textboxes

I need to know how to get the  items from a Select Command in a Data Source to populate textboxes. For instance in the Select statement below I want to set the textbox for First Name equal to the item in the Select Command highlighted below:

 Protected Sub MHGrid_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MHGrid.SelectedIndexChanged
        Me.Table1.Visible = True

        Me.txtFirstName.Text = (1)

    End Sub

Measures for Additive vs Non-Additive Data. What is cube design best practice?

I'm looking more for SSAS 2008 best practice design advice, rather than for an answer to a specific question (although I have a specifc set of examples).

First issue:  Creating a non-additive measure group and an additive measure group.  We have some fact data in our current cube that is additive, and some fact data that is non-additive; all stored in the same fact table.  We do not currently have measures implemented that reflect this aggregation distinction.  Question:  Is it considered good practice to segregate additive and non-additive fact data into a) different fact tables and/or b) different measure groups?  My thought is that it would be an acceptable design approach, but am looking for feedback.

Second issue:  Non-additive fact data is only available at a non-leaf grain.  The example here is that we have non-additive fact data which is only available for the 4th or 5th levels of our 6-level geography dimension.  Our solution has been to create a custom geography branch, which now essentially serves as our 'aggregation treatment' for non-additive fact data.  I don't believe it's a good practice to have the geography dimension serve this function because we end up having to create a custom geo member for each non-additive fact data element.  Question:  What is considered best practice

Problem getting same record when trying to populate data into texboxes when selecting a row/record f

I can't seem to get the select record from the datagrid to populate in the textboxes. I get the same record no matter what I select in the datagrid. Hopefully someone can help with this. I tried using a where clause for POPULATION_LIST_ID = '" & Me.lblPopulationID.Text & "' and I get a ORA-01722 error - invalid number. Here is the code I have so far for the grid:

  Protected Sub MHGrid_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MHGrid.SelectedIndexChanged
Me.Table1.Visible = True
Me.MHGrid.Visible = True

Dim dvSql As DataView = DirectCast(MHFoundation.Select(DataSourceSelectArguments.Empty), DataView)

For Each drvSql As DataRowView In dvSql
Me.lblPopulationID.Text = drvSql("POPULATION_LIST_ID").ToString
Me.txtMRN.Text = drvSql("MRN1").ToString()

Search data from sharepoint list and populate repeating table (Seach text should be entre in first f

Hi All,

I am newbie to infopath.

I have assignment to search data from sharepoint list and display it to repeating table. Below is the case in detail.

i. User enter search text in first textbox of repeating table.

ii. After text enter you will Enter or click tab button.

iii. As user press Tab /Enter, the other textboxes of repeating table will populate with data automatically.

iv. If searched data rows are more then one, then dynamically add new row's in repeating table and  show searched data.

I am working at offical assignment and it's deadline is very tough. i had made extensive search at google and msdn forum but unable to accomplish. I would appreciate and thanks is some provide me solution in form to a small infopath application and code snippet.

Populate entity data model from database

I've been using entity data models for quite a few sections of my website and find it really good for saving things to the database.

After searching for a while, I can't seem to find a good way to populate a new instance with data from a database other than using a data reader. E.G:

MyClass.myID = reader("myID")

Am I missing something?

Best Practice for writing DataContract for a multi row data set.

My Stored Procedure returns the following fields: DisplayName, CompCode, CompName, CompValue, CompFlag. For any caseid there may be multiple rows returned.

I want my WCF Web Service to  expose all the above mentioned fields in wsdl.

How should I write my DataContract so that the xml has multiple rows.

Is it ok to to put List<string> in DataMembers as shown below or is there another best practice?

        public List<string> DisplayName { get; set; }

Thanks You.
