Ok, been a while since I worked with TransactSQL so wanted to brush off some rust before an interview or two (I'm mostly a mix of management and web dev, but have done SQL dev many times as part of the job).
Ok, so I install VS 2008 on Windows 7 and apply SP1 for that.ÃÂ All good.ÃÂ (I didn't install the default SQL 2005 Express that comes bundled with it).
I now install SQL2008 Express and all goes well.ÃÂ I can start up the services, connect, etc.ÃÂ But I read that I need SP1 for use on Windows 7 so before something bad happens, I wanted to install SP1.
I downloaded just about every instance, including the latest from MSDN.
All of them start up with a similar interface to the actual initial installation that was part of SQL 2008 express.ÃÂ Quite different looking for what normal SPs look like or how they perform.
I figured fine, it's probably just a similar looking interface but I'll keep clicking next and eventually it will work.
However, I don't see anything about installing an actual patch.
It seems my only options are to add 'additional features' which won't work because ofÃÂ course I'm not adding anything new.ÃÂ And if I select to install a new instance (I thought it would replace my existing one), it already tells me that instance exists and won't continue.
