SQL DMO/SMO Replication setup SQL 2005, 2008, 2008 R2

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 23, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have a VB.NET program that uses SQL DMO to setup the SQL Server for replication, create the publication with all the articles and start the snapshot creation. With SQL 2008 R2, DMO is unavailable (at least with SQL 2008 there was a backwards compatibility package that i could load to get it).

I have read that SMO was available in SQL 2000-2005 and i know there were some differences, but i am only using it for the replication setup. Then i saw some in the BOM about RMO.

I am a little confused about the RMO - is that just a sub-set of SMO?

My BIGGEST concern is that i write something and it works perfectly on R2 but fails on 2008 or 2005 (since we still have customers using those versions).

Can anyone point me somewhere that talks about changing from DMO replication setup to SMO/RMO.

Replication between SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008

Hi,    We were using SQL Server Transactional Replication between two SQL Server 2005 servers. Now we are going to upgrade the Publisher server to SQL Server 2008, Distributor Server remains as SQL Server 2005.     Can anyone let me know what is the challenges we need to face when configuring Replication between SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008. Replication Method - Transactional Replication Distributor/Subscriber - SQL Server 2005 Publisher     -  SQL Server 208 Regards, Fazlu.

Using SQL Server Replication for SQL Server 2005 and 2008

I have an ASP.NET application that uses replication, and uses the RMO DLLs to do this. I initially built the application against the 2005 version of the DLLs and have it running successfully against SQL Server 2005. However, when I try running it against SQL Server 2008 it doesn't work. Initially I didn't deploy the Microsoft.SqlServer.* DLLs with my app - instead relying on them being in place on the server on which it was installed. However, when trying to make it work against SQL Server 2008 it was looking for the 2005 version DLLs which it wasn't able to locate. Following some other advice I read online I have now swapped out the 2005 DLLs and referenced the 2008 assemblies in my .NET project. In my MSI I now also deploy (i.e. redistribute) the SQL Server 2008 DLLs to the bin folder of my ASP.NET project. Now, when I try to run the application against SQL Server 2005 it fails to load the Microsoft.SqlServer.Replication assembly. I run depends.exe against this and find that it's dependent on SQLNCLI10.DLL which is missing on my machine with only SQL Server 2005 on it. So, what am I to do? Is this possible? How do I get around this?

Merge Replication between SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008

We are planning to implement Merge Replication between SQL Server 2008 "Not R2 Version" (Publisher) and SQL Server 2005 (Subscriber). Will this setup work, or there are some limitations ?

SQL Server 2008: Replication of IndexedView does not work correct anymore(did work in sql 2005)

I am encountering a problem with replication of an indexed view.

My current flow works fine on SQL Server 2005 (enterp.) But is does not work anymore on SQL Server 2008 (enterp.)

On my server(server1), i receive 2 tables via replication from another server(server0). (lets name them tTest1 and tTest2)

I create an indexed view based on those 2 tables. (lets name it idxvTest)

This indexed view(idxvTest) is then replicated to another server(server2), and materialized as a table (tTestidxv).

Any changes made to the tables on server0, are replicated via server1 to server2.

The above situation worked fine in SQL 2005.

However in SQL 2008, i don't get any error messages in the replication, and everything seems to work fine..

But as it appears, changes entered at server0 are being replicated to server1, also the view idxvTest looks fine, but the data is not updated/inserted on the table at server2(tTestidxv)!!

Note: initial setup of the replication from server1 to server2 works correctly, and the snapshot is also delivered. Only the updates after the snapshot don't come through.

SQL Replication between 2005 & 2008

Is it possible to replicate between SQL 2005 (publisher) & SQL 2008 (Subscriper)?

If it is possible, what is the impact on the DBs? (regarding 2 different versions)

Snapshot Replication between MSQL 2005 SP3 and MSQL 2008 R2; cannot create subscription

I tried to setup a snapshot replication between 2 servers, running different MSQL versions

The distribution database is set up on subscriber side and the publisher use this Distribuitor. The creation of  snapshot works fine on publisher without errors.

But, when i try to create the subscription on Subscriber i got this message:

The article '(null)' does not exist.
Could not update the distribution database subscription table. The subscription status could not be changed.
The subscription could not be created.
The subscription could not be found.
Changed database context to 'DMC'. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)

MERGE Replication between SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 R2

Hi, i have a publisher with 3 publications with below SQL

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.4035.00 (Intel X86)   Nov 24 2008 13:01:59   Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation  Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2)

I want to add a subscriber to the server with below SQL

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (RTM) - 10.50.1600.1 (X64)   Apr  2 2010 15:48:46   Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation  Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.0 <X64> (Build 6002: Service Pack 2) (VM)

Now when i am trying to add subscritpion to the 2008 R2 server on the publication server, i am getting below message

TITLE: New Subscription Wizard

For merge publications, the version of the Subscriber must not exceed the version of the Publisher.

Is merge replication not possible between the 2?? Please advice. I beliwve Microsoft's new releases should support its older versions...

Setup SQL Server 2005/2008 express

Hi people, I'm trying to install SQL Server 2005 or 2008 express, but I'm getting an error:

Error inesperado en el programa de instalacion de SQL Server. Para obtener mas informacion, revise el archivo de registro de resumen de la instalacion ... Summary.txt. (This is in spanish).

When I check the summary.txt file, it doesn't have any help, the content is:

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 9.00.4035.00
OS Version      : Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (Build 2600)
Time            : Tue Apr 05 15:08:07 2011

What could the problem be?

SQL Server 2008 / 2005 Databases Replication

Domain One - abc.com (IP Address scheme - 185.192.X.X)
Domain Two - xyz.com (IP Address scheme - 10.200.X.X)

There is a Forest level trust between those 2 domains.

Can you please help me if there is there any way that I can replicate the datas in Server to Server (which has both Ms Sql Server 2005 on it) - which will have same database in both servers. There is a chance to link those 2 servers in those 2 networks and store datas at the same time on each servers. So that if one goes down, staffs can log into another one without any down-time to access data from another server's database (which is the replica of the primary DB server). Please let me know & also if there is any good resource about that the same.

Converting Crystal Report 2005 to 2008 - Please Tell Me I'm Stupid :)

Hello peeps,

I have a series of Crystal Reports that I can view/edit using Visual Studio 2005 with no issues.  The method I'm using is to simply click on the *.rpt file and it opens in the VS crystal editor with no issues.  The problem I'm having is that we are upgrading to Visual Studio 2008, and when I open the *.rpt file in 2008 it opens as a binary file.  I guess I'm used to everything else in Visual Studio prompting me to convert the older version to the newer version, so I'm not sure what to do in this case.

Is this normal?  Is there an easy conversion method that I'm simply overlooking?  Am I screwed?  Who invented liquid soap, and why?

Answers to any of these questions would be greatly appreciated...

Convert 2005 RDLC to 2008 using VS2010

Hi and thanks.

I'm getting an error on serveral reports that I built  in VWD2005 (express) using the reportviewer control.  Trying to edit the rdlc file in VS2010, VS2010 asks if i want to convert the file to RDLC 2008 format and I click ok.  When I build the site, I get this error (and of course also when the report is ran):

Here is my web.config concerning the RDLC assemblies, etc.

Proper setup using Infopath and Custom Workflow using VS 2008

I have been struggling for a couple of days, trying to set up a decent
structure for an Infopath project using a custom workflow using Visual Studio 2008.

I had a solution with two projects:

1) Sharepoint 2007 Workflow

2) Infopath 2007 form w/code-behind.

I included the xsn, in the VS solution, but after a day or two,
something went wrong, and I lost some work. I still do not know what
happened, but I could not get my changes to persist afterthat  Doing research I have read that this
stucture, using Infopath xsn, within VS does not work correctly with Source
Control. I am using VSS.

So I since made a change to the set-up so that the .xsn (form template) is separate from
Visual Studio. However, I need to leave the code-behind in VS, since I need to debug

This is my latest problem. I have been unable to attach to the correct
process, as VS generates cachse files, and who knows what else.

My question is simple. What is the supported method for debugging InfoPath
code/behind, which uses a Sharepiont Workflow?

I just also want to say that one should not have
to spend a few days just trying to setup a working development environment.

This should be trouble-free, but it is far from being so. I

DR Setup for SSAS 2008

Hello Guru's, I'm new to SSAS env. and want to set up its DR env. Can anybody guide me with any good strategis and implementation practices. We are using SSAS 2008 on 2 node Cluster Server. Thank you in Advance.- Nilesh

SQLServer 2008 Tools and SQL 2005 Cluster

I recently built a SQL Server 2005 cluster on the o/s Windows Server 2008 R2.  I have been attempting to connect to the cluster from my Windows 7 dekstop with my SQL Server 2008 Tool set.  I have been unable to attach to this cluster since its creation. The firewall is temp off, remote connections in the surface area configuration is set to pipes and tcp/ip and the Browser surface is up and running. I ran Wireshark against the cluster and I could see that there was UDP conversations for ms-sql-m (SQL Port) but that was as far as it would get.  I am using a named instance so not using 1433, but I do see the cluster offering up high RPC ports but the client never responds after the initial UDP response. When I noticed that there was a two way conversation taking place, I went to a seperate machine and fired up SQL Server 2005 Tools and I was easily able to attach to the cluster.  So my question is - Are there any known incompatibilities between SQL Server 2005 cluster services and SQL Server 2008 Tool set?  I can use my 2008 tools to attach to a non-clustered SQL Server 2005 w/o issue.   Error when attempting to connect: A network-related or instance-specific error occured while establishing a connection to sql server.  The server was not found or was not accessible.  Verify that the instance name is correct and the SQL Server is con
