inconsistent rendering of label

Hey, I have a fairly simple WPF application (in a more complicated scenario than this test example posted here this is of importance) with one main window containing a Button, a TabControl on the outside and then one inner part containing of a GroupBox with a Grid which is supposed to display some content (actually just labels) in a rectangle: <Window x:Class="WpfApplication1.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="MainWindow" Height="480" Width="640" Loaded="Window_Loaded"> <TabControl Height="440" Width="620" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Name="tabControl1" VerticalAlignment="Top"> <TabItem Header="tabItem1" Name="tabItem1"> <Grid Height="400" Width="600"> <Button Content="Button" Height="23" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Name="button1" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="75" /> <GroupBox Header="new map" Name="groupBoxNewMap" IsEnabled="True" Margin="0,20,0,0"> <Grid Height="361" Width="580" Name="

Executescalar and carrying the result to a label or textbox

I am trying to test if a record exists.  I am attaching this to the DetailsView_Databound event. When I run the label1 and TextBox1 do not change.

What went wrong?

 Protected Sub DetailsView1_DataBound(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles DetailsView1.DataBound
        Dim connectionString As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("ApplicationServices").ConnectionString
        Dim selectSql As String = "SELECT Count(*) FROM CustomersAdministrators WHERE CustomerID = @customerid)"

        Using myConnection As New SqlConnection(connectionString)
                Dim myCommand As New SqlCommand(selectSql, myConnection)
                myCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("@CustomerID", DetailsView1.SelectedValue())
                Dim count As Int32 = Convert.ToInt32(myCommand.ExecuteScalar())
                If count > 0 Then
                    Label1.Text = "Moomba"
                    TextBox1.Text = count.ToString
                    TextBox1.Text = "Available"
                End If

Rendering ASP.NET Script References into the Html Header

One thing that I've come to appreciate in control development in ASP.NET that use JavaScript is the ability to have more control over script and script include placement than ASP.NET provides natively. Specifically in ASP.NET you can use either the ClientScriptManager or ScriptManager to embed scripts and script references into pages via code.

Rendering data with HTML tags in the DD Gridview for a selected column

I am having trouble finding out where and how to HTML Encode a cell's data on the Dynamic Data (v4.0) gridview of List.aspx.  As a simple case, suppose I have formatted cell data that is A<br/>B in the DB.    Obviously, I want A stacked on B in the cell.

It seems gridView1.HtmlEncode = true has gone away.

So maybe I'll try to catch it on the RowDataBound event:

protected void GridView1_RowDataBound(Object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)

            if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow)
                // Html Encode the cells

but this event never fires?

Has anyone figured out how to properly render HTML tags data in the List.aspx's GridView1?

If I figure this out, then I can add a MetaAttribute called something like [EncodeAsHtml(true)] and be on my way.  Thanks!

Print row count on Label

I have an SP that simply performs a COUNT(*) from a table. I'm am trying to print that number in an ASP Label. It works in Query analyzer but I cant wrap my head around how to display it in a label. Any guidance much appreciated.

Thank you.

Active Directory and .NET: paging the search result

Hi everybody!

I have a question about Active Directory in .NET
For my project I need to fetch results from Active Directory search page by page, because later I would need to bind it to the pageable DataGrid.

I tried to use .NET library DirectoryServices for that, but paging provided by this library is transparent to the user and is used only to increase the efficiency of searching, when results are too big. I.e. I cannot tell the DirectorySearcher to give me first page, then the next or previous page, it returns me all resulting pages in one bundle.

However, what I need is to explicitely get page after page directly from the AD searcher and to be able to go at least one page forward or backward.

The solution with copying all results to the DataBase and then do the paging is not accepeted by the clent, since it is too inefficient. And since it's a Web app, I cannot keep results in memory either.

I found some hints about COM Interface, but I could not find good and detailed examples or explanations. I aslo found this line of code: DirectoryServices.Interop.IDirectorySearch.ExecuteSearch(), but I don't know which libraries should i add to be able to compile this code.

If somebody could help me out with that problem, any suggestion is welcome, 'cause this issue is eating me alive :)

Thank you!

How to display a count of search results with keywords in a label?

Sorry for a basic post here; I am very new to VB!

I am currently building a search page, which includes a textbox and two drop-down lists, a search button, and a datagrid. If results are found and displayed, I would like a label to display:

(e.g.) "24 results found for 'blue sky clouds' "

...where the integer represents the results count, and the keywords and/or drop-down list selections are included in the string.

If no results are found I would like the label to display:

(e.g.) "No results were found that match your selection. Please try again"

I would also like the label to be invisible until a search occurs.

Thanks in advance!

Cutting Edge: Conditional Rendering in ASP.NET AJAX 4.0

Last month, Dino covered the basics of the new DataView client control and the binding techniques most commonly used. In this article, he goes one step further and covers conditional template rendering.

Using Server-Side XSL for Early Rendering: Generating Frequently Accessed Data-Driven Web Pages in A

Dynamic data-driven pages have become the basis of many cutting-edge Web sites. Early render systems can provide better performance and maintainability for data-driven Web sites by generating frequently accessed pages that contain less-volatile information ahead of time. We'll show you an example of a server-side solution that uses Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) to merge data and layout information into HTML that is compatible with just about any modern Web browser. Using these techniques to render Web pages early can reduce the load on your database back end and increase performance for your users.

Problems Rendering Special Characters

Good afternoon ASP programmers,

I am creating an application that creates math problems for students.  I wish to use a special character for negation to differentiate it from the minus sign.  I am using the Unicode character U02c9.

This is a composite screen shot of two problems. The top one is rendered in Fire Fox and the bottom one in IE.  I'd like to know how to change my JavaScript so that IE is rendered like Fire Fox.  I have created variables that I use for my special characters.

var symMul= "×";
var symDiv= "÷";
var symNeg= "?";

Both IE & Fire Fox correctly render the symDiv and symMul symbols. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Rendering User Control content

I have a scenario where, the content is:
 ASP.NET Controls
      User Control
 ASP.NET Controls

The entire div code is rendered and is sent at a mail using the code:

Dim sw As New StringWriter()
Dim w As New HtmlTextWriter(sw)
Dim s As String = sw.GetStringBuilder().ToString()

This works fine except that the User Control does not get rendered.

Any way out, so that the User Control content is also rendered ?

how to assign string value to a label control

insufficient result space to convert uniqueidentifier value to char

Hi guys,

       Look, I've been trying to insert new values while I create a new user with a createuserwizard, but I've been getting this error over and over again:

"insufficient result space to convert uniqueidentifier value to char"

       The code that does it is the following:

  protected void CreateUserWizard1_CreatedUser(object sender, EventArgs e)
TextBox UserNameTextBox = (TextBox)CreateUserWizardStep2.ContentTemplateContainer.FindControl("UserName");

SqlDataSource DataSource = (SqlDataSource)CreateUserWizardStep2.ContentTemplateContainer.FindControl("InsertExtraInfo");

MembershipUser User = Membership.GetUser(UserNameTextBox.Text);

object UserGUID = User.ProviderUserKey;

DataSource.InsertParameters.Add("UserId", UserGUID.ToString());

      But when I debug, the error is thrown before reaching the previous code, so I suppose the error is in the SqlDataSource, look:

      <asp:SqlDataSource ID="InsertExtraInfo" runat="server" Co
