Issue while creating a BCS entity in visual studio for SQL stored procedures

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 23, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi Everyone,

I have an issue while creating an entity in Visual studio for SQL stored procedures.I have two input parameters startdate and enddate as datetime datatypes in the stored procedures.I have added two input parameters startdate and enddate in the Readlist and ReadItem methods and created two filter descriptors startdate and enddate of "comparison" type and related these to their respective input parameters.

In my readlist and readitem methods I have used LINQ TO SQL query to query the SP.When I debug the program,I am receiving an error message-->remote procedure cannot be debugged. Also my parameters are not being passed to the SP.Any help is appreciated..also if any one has step by step approach, that helps me a lot.

Visual Studio SQL Connection Wizard - where are values stored?

I have a problem with the Configuration Manager and though clearing the cached information would help, but I can't find how to do that. The problem - No matter how many times I try to create a new connection to an existing database, the wizard retrieves an incorrect listing of the tables for that database (this is just one database it is happening with).  I try creating different users in SQL Management Studio (which shows the proper tables) and I can connect fine with the new user, but these incorrect tables keep appearing. This only applies to the aspnet membership tables that, at one point I had named with an extra prefix (eg vw_aspnet_Users) but are no longer named as such. Now, only the vw-prefix tables show up and they don't exist anymore. Also I have made some of my own tables (eg aspnet_User_Info) which don't ahow up at all. When I make other new tables though, they seem to show up fine. Also, if I manually construct the query through the wizard, it will properly access the tables that don't show up.So, Is there someone I can clear/refresh wherever this information is being cached? Removing everything from the Web.config does nothing, as Visual Studio seems to save the connections elsewhere (connection strings from other projects show up in the wizard as well)Any tips are appreciated

Entity Framework and stored procedures with OUTPUT parameters (suggest API)

EF does handle stored procedures with OUTPUT parameters, but the generated methods are not the easiest to work with or safest you could ask for. The ObjectParameter objects you have to create, pass to the method and extract the value from are not type checked and reallyObjectParameter nameParam = new ObjectParameter( "Name", typeof(string)); ObjectParameter ageParam = new ObjectParameter( "Age", typeof(int)); context.GetPersonsNameAndAge( personId, nameParam, ageParam); string name = Convert.IsDBNull(nameParam.Value) ? null : (string)nameParam.Value; int? age = Convert.IsDBNull(ageParam.Value) ? null : (int?)ageParam.Value; is not what I would want to have to write. The ObjectParameter objects do make some sense for stored procedures that return both a resultset and some OUTPUT parameters, because in that case the OUTPUT parameters are only available after the resultset has been consumed and therefore you need some objects that will be populated after the ObjectResult<...> gets processed but for the stored procedures that do not return any resultset, there is no reason not to create the ObjectParameter objects within the method and extract the values there as well. So that the procedure above may be called asstring name; int? age; context.GetPersonsNameAndAge( personId, out name, out age); Things are not so simple for procedures returning both. I'm

Panel Layout and Visual Studio issue - what is recommended path?

I am working with .NET 3.5 (VS 2008). In one of my tabs, I have added two panels. Each panel takes up the whole tab area (dock=full).  At any one time only one panel is visible. Depending on what the user does, one panel will be hidden while the other is visible.  My problem is that when I am in Visual Studio in the design mode, I can only see the panel that was added last.  The first panel is below that, so I can't work with the panel to add other components (buttons, labels, ect).  I tried to right-click the top panel and select "Send to back" but that does not make the bottom panel visible.  The only thing I can do is undock the top panel and move it to the side while I work on the underneath panel.

Does anyone know of a better way to access the underneath panel in design mode or if there is a more appropriate way to create stacked panels (think deck of cards).

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated - Peter

SSRS 2008 formatting issue - different in visual studio preview/pdf/excel vs. internet explorer

The formatting of the report is perfect when viewed in Visual studio and also after exporting it to pdf or excel. But when I deployed my solution and opened it on IE/Firefox there is a lot of problem in formatting. Specifically the row height is giving me a problem. I manually entered them to be 0.1in and made the CanGrow field as false to force that row height but some rows in the tablix expand ( to 0.15in, which is the height of my header). This is true for a matrix as well. Is there is a feature to lock the row height in IE o any other web browser?

Visual Studio 2010 - Design Mode Error - "Error Creating Control"

I am using Visual Studio 2010.  I was debugging a web application and an exception happened and VS 2010 froze.  I ended the VS 2010 in the task manager and when I went back to developing, I found on every form for every ASP.net control I get:

Error Creating Control -

Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.

Also I am unable to edit  the form or add anything from the toolbox.

Any help on this matter will be appreciated.
