EF 4.0 not displaying changes made directly from SQL Server

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 23, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I have an aspx application using Entity Framework 4.0 and SQL Server 2008. Everything works fine. It's an internal application, so we developed a basic backend for routine maintenance. Some minor data updates are done directly into the SQL Server using SQL Management Studio... the problem is those changes are not reflected in the application! Only after reseting the web service or the server, the new data is displayed. Any idea on how to control this behaviour?

Thank you!

A connection could not be made to the report server http://localhost/ReportServer.

  • I created a Report using Business Intelligence Studio. Its working working well, i can able to view records. But when i try to deploy the report an error occurs specifying that "A connection could not be made to the report server http://localhost/ReportServer. (Microsoft Report Designer)".
  • I open the IIS 7 and find out virtual directories "Reports" and "ReportServer" are available.
  • I check on the browser and type "http://localhost/reports".  I find the browser direct to this url: http://localhost/reports/Pages/Folder.aspx and find error specifying the following one:

SQL Server Configuration Manager: Connection to target machine could not be made in a timely fashion

I have a SQL Server 2005 box that was moved from a domain environment to a non-domain environment and was never dropped from its original domain before moving over.  Subsequently a new domain was created at the data center this SQL Server box now resides in.  The machine was dropped from its old domain and joined to the new one.   All the while the service accounts were set to the local admin account.  When I tried to start the Configuration Manager I got the message "Connection to target machine could not be made in a timely fashion.".  I read some blog entries and tried changing all the service accounts to Local System and the error message still came up.   All of the SQL Server services run fine.  It is just this management console that I cannot open.  I wasn't with this employer when this box was moved to the data center so I do not know if it worked prior and there isn't anyone here that could give me its history.   Any help would be appreciated.

A connection could not be made to the report server - Problem deploying an SSRS report from Business

I’m having trouble with what seems to be a common issue for people, regarding deployment of an SSRS report from Business Intelligence Development Studio. Unfortunately none of the solution I have seen posted here (and elsewhere) have been able to help me so far.   Two of my collegaues can both deploy with no problem, and I am using exactly the same Target destinations as them (TargetDataSourceFolder, TargetReportFolder, TargetServerURL).   I have posted the error message below, which from my basic understaning would indicate, I think, a security issue (perhaps something local to my PC, or user account)   Has anyone experienced this particular issue who might be able to help?   Best wishes, Jamie TITLE: Microsoft Report Designer ------------------------------ A connection could not be made to the report server http://turpin-net.turpin-bg.local/Reportserver. ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Client found response content type of 'text/html; charset=utf-8', but expected 'text/xml'. a connection could not be made to the reporting server

I have made a report using SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio. When I try to deploy I get the following error "a connection could not be made to the reporting server". I went to IE and was able to make a connection but not when deploying. I also right clicked on the project and selected properties and verified if the Target URL was correct and it is. Can anyone help. Thanks

Infopath 2010 Displaying datas from SQL SERVER 2008 with a button click

This is my second post. I am really new to infopath 2010, and need some help.

To display database information on the form, normally you drag the whole datafields to the form.

Then the form will auto generate the header row and data columns. When you PREVIEW the form,

the datas from the server will automatically be binded to the form.

My question is, is there a way not to auto bind the data when the form is loaded, and when the user

clicks a button on the form then this datas display on the form dynamically.

Really appreciate your help,

and since I am a newbie please instruct me with step by step, every details please.

Problems displaying xml file after publishing to production server

In my Visual Studio 2008 web site, I created a new folder named Reporting.  Then one of my web pages creates an xml file in this new folder when the user clicks a button.  The user then clicks another button and the xml file displays in the browser.  This all works fine on my development PC.

But if I publish this web site to my production server, it does not work.  I get an error when I click the first button to create my xml file.  The error reads:

Could not find part of the path 'c:\windows\system32\inetsrv\Reporting\abc.xml'

What must I do so that this works on my development PC and also my production server?

how to track the changes made to the analysis server

I want to knwo whow we can track the changes made to the SQL Server Analysis Services. We have TFS 2005 and SQL Server 2008. From TFS I get to know what are the changes made to the code but I will not be knowing if these changes were made to the server or not. Is there any way to find out the changes made in the server.

Ajax comboBox not displaying correctly after panel made visible

I have a WSP project in which i have added ajaxcontroltoolkit to SharePoint 2010 succesfully and the controls work when in basic web parts.

However i have a web part which has several panels to show / hide various sections as required, within one of the panels i have a combobox.

The panels are set a visible = false to begin with and then toggled to be displayed.

When the panel is set visible = true i get an Javascript error of:

Message: 'AjaxControlToolkit' is undefined

The combobox does not display correctly and won;t function.

If the panel is set as visible to begin with - it works fine, but thats not a solution to something which should work.

I have tried various workarounds - but nothing is working.

  • changed scriptmanager on master page to ToolkitScriptManager
  • add javascript to resize the combobox when its made visible

Is there away to get this working?

Displaying Execution Plans by Using SQL Server Profiler Event Classes - Filtering the trace?

IN SQL Profiler you have the ability to see the execution plan for each query, which sometimes can be helpful. However, I'm not able to make use of any of my filters when profiling with the "Showplan XML" event class enabled.

Say, I want to sample only batches with a duration > 100 ms, how can I make this filter take effect? I have no problems with applying such filters when _not_ using these event classes.

I'm using SQL Server 2008.

transfer sql server objects - table list made dynamic

i've seen several links when searching for this problem but nothing definitely solves this...or if it does it seems to be among people who seem to know scripting really well and can figure stuff out. my problem is as follows.

i have a remote server that i connect to (need credentials and cannot use windows authentication), and from this box i need to extract certain tables from certain databases. i tried a linked server and its ridiculously slow. the other method was to build it via ssis (which needs a mapping structure for each table and cannot be made dynamic). lastly i came across this. this works really well, but i'm amazed that I cant use a variable for the table name. I've tried hardcoding the name, using a string and object variables but no go.

so i see that people have created a custom transfer objects with vb.net and c#. can someone please give me the layman's code block to enter into the script task? i've tried following instructions and end up with errors. As i paste the code some segments remain underlined and when you hover your mouse you see tooltips like Type StringCollection not defined. So maybe i'm missing some libraries or dll's that are supposed to go in and i have no clue which ones. i really like using the expressions and have iterated object variables and simple variables alike and its ridiculous that this is has room to be con

SSRS 2008 Server Exployer not displaying all stored procedures from the database

Displaying SharePoint lists in Web Parts

When you create a built-in or custom list in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services, Windows SharePoint Services creates a Web Part, a basic building block of a SharePoint site, to display that list. These Web Parts are called List View Web Parts. Windows SharePoint Services stores List View Web Parts in the site collection Web Part gallery. (The site collection Web Part gallery is the most central gallery of Web Parts for a work group. By default, the gallery name is the name of the site, such as "Our Team Site Web Part Gallery." )

call JavaScript - jQuery code from ASP.NET Server-Side

jQuery got so close to me lately that I can see myself adding the scripts to my project almost unconsciously. The thing is, jQuery is very useful for me, in almost all situations and it has been a do or die enhancement for all my project since I first put my hands on it.

Of course while using it, you encounter few situations which need a bit of research to solve, mostly when you are trying to combine it with some other technologies like: UpdatePanels and ASP.NET Ajax. For instance there are many situations when I would like to run some jQuery magic based on some decision that I make on the server side.
