Unable to Edit the properties of a document using the ribbon

I have created a new web part page and added a document library to that page.  In the ribbon the "Edit Properties" icon is enabled and I can edit the document properties.

When I add another web part to the page and go back to select a document, on the ribbon the "Edit Properties" icon is no disabled.  I can still edit the document using the context menu of the document.

Permissions on the library did not change when I added the additional web part.  The only change to the page was adding an additional web part.

Document Library Missing Columns in Edit Properties

Hi, I'm having an issue with a specific Site Collection.  The issue is that some of the columns do not show up when you go to the Edit Properites page, or when the user creates a new document.  The items can be edited when opened in a data sheet, but the users would like to be able to edit them on the Edit Properties page.  They say they haven't made any changes, but this has happened at least 3 times with differenct document libraries on this specific site.  Has anyone else ever dealt with this?  Anyone got a solution?  Let me know if more info is needed.  Thanks.

Unable to edit and check out document in Sharepoint 2007


I am unable to edit document in SharePoint, and hit error with a message “The document could not be opened for editing. A Windows SharePoint Services compatible application could not be found to edit the document”.

When I try to check out a document it hits error with the message “object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Do you have any idea on these issues? As in the development server, I am able to check out and edit documents.



Change the order of fields in the 'edit properties' screen in a document library?


How can I change the order of the fields in the 'edit properties' screen on a document library?

In a standard list there is an option for 'column ordering'. This option does not exist in a document library! In my document library I have added some site columns to be used for filtering of documents in the library. But I'm not happy with the order they are being added into the 'edit properties' screen. The order looks different to the order that is shown in SharePoint Designer in the doc library when I click the 'edit list columns' link.

Any help much appreciated.

Unable to open pdf from document library MOSS 2007


When I click on a pdf document uploaded in a document library it comes up with a blank page. 

I guess it's trying to open pdf on the browser. I turned off "Display PDF in browser " option in Adobe Preferences, but it doesn't help, same issue.

I tried other browsers too, it's the same issue.

I am able to open all other pdf files local to my machine fine.

I am using IE 8 on my machine (Windows 7) and the Sharepoint server is MOSS 2007.



How do I get the Name link to go to document properties instead of the doc itself?

Hello.  I need to link my documents/photos/etc to their properties page (DispForm.aspx), not directly to the item itself.  How do I change my code to do this?  I have SharePoint Designer, but I'm no big expert.  I have looked through all the different column names and types and cannot find one that does this.  Thanks.  Oh, I'm on WSS 3.0.

RichTextBox - Attached Properties, Document and CaretPosition

Hi I have created a couple of attached properties for the richtextbox control, to enable binding to the Document and CaretPosition native properties of the richtextbox. However, I am finding that, when I am programmatically updating the richtextbox document from the view model (rather than typing it into the richtextbox directly), I need to manually set the CaretPosition property of the richtextbox (see the underlined piece of code for the additional manual setting of CaretPosition) whereas the Document property appears to be updating automatically. At least when I step the code and break in on I'm concerned that I've not quite wired this together properly and would be grateful if someone could explain where I've got it wrong. How to display the edit button etc on the ribbon irrespective of who has checked it out

Is there a way that i can get the edit button etc displayed for all users irrespective of who has checked it out? Actually,i need the ribbon's edit,browse,page publish buttons active on the page even if somebody else has checked it out.I remember seeing an override checkout option available on the ribbon in some other site,But i do not have any such options displayed(I am also logged in and have full permissions).

Unable to create columns in document library after applying custom master page to site

Hi, I have applied a custom master page to a site.There is a document library in it. I am unable to add columns in it or change the default view.Nothing happens when I click on OK butoon after making my changes. However the columns are created/default view is changed when I apply the default master page. Guess I am missing some TagPrefix or sharepoint control on master page.I had solved this problem earlier in this way but don't remeber it now. Can anyone help?

Cannot enable Ribbon Edit Tab buttons and "connect" them to a list item in my custom webpart

Unable to Show Edit item Links in Data Form Web Part

I have a DFWP connected to custom list and the boxes to Show Edit Item Links, Show Delete item links and Show Insert Item links are grayed out so that they can not be checked. This works fine when I use a DFWP connected to a standard list (i.e., Contacts). Is there something special that needs to be done to activate this functionality?ThanksDean

Designer workflow + unable to edit task

I use the SPD to create a custom workflow which will assign to-do task to users. The workflow is attached to a list library in a subsite and users only have view-only permission to the subsite (users are added to the subsite directly, not inside any sharepoint group).  In order for users to complete the assigned task, I have broken the permission inheritance and change users to have contribute permission on the Task list.   The workflow would trigger as expected and a new task is created for the user. The user can see the "edit task" link in the task item but when clicked "edit task", an "access denied" error occurs.   Under further investigation, I notice access are granted for sharepoint group e.g. site visitors, site members on URL http://....../workflow/workflow_name/newtask.aspx , and only when I create the workflow under the site administrator account. If I create the workflow under an account which also has "Full Control" to the subsite, No access are granted to the workflow library at all.   What permission levels do I need to create workflows in designer really? Does it make a difference if the workflow is on a top-root site or subsite? Full control on the top-root site or subsite?   Thanks in advance.

hide EDIT mode from the ribbon

I have created new subsites and trying to create a page, but it shows access denied error. Eventhough i have logged in as site collection administrator and given access as full control for subsite and also tried giving master page and style library read access. when i click on create page, I can enter the page name and after that it shows ACCESS DENIED . but the page is physically created and unable to edit.... Appreciate your help on this Issue....
