SQL Server 2005 OWC11 Installation Failure

Hi, While installing SQL Server Developer Edition I am getting a setup failure for OWC11 component on my machine with XP SP2. When gone through various community sites found this is related with Office Web component. I have tried below solution but none of them worked: 1. Downloaded OWC11 from microsoft.com and tried to install but failed to install. Its coming with an error message 'setup can not remove the older version of the Microsoft Offfice web component can not be removed' 2. Tried to uninstall Microsoft Offfice web componen from control panel but failing to uninstall, its giving an erropackage could not found. 3. Tried uninstalling Microsoft office 2007  from machine but didn't worked. I have Microsoft visual studio 2005 and Microsoft office 2007 installed on my computer. Please help me to get rid of this OWC11 component. Thanks in Advance. Jagdish

Maintenance plan to rebuild Full-text index ? (SQL 2005)

Is it possible, through the GUI Wizard, to create a Maintenance plan that rebuilds (rather than reorganise/optimise) a Full text index in 2005 ? The full text index is based on one table only - so would using the "Rebuild index task" in the Wizard do the trick ? I wouldn't mind if the other indexes on the table were rebuilt too, but main concern in the Full text Index. If not - then I guess it would be a scheduled job which does a ALTER FULLTEXT CATALOG catalog_name REBUILD, but I thought it would be nice to keep it within the - Management - Maintenance plans - section of SQL Management Studio. Also - should this be preceeded with a transaction log backup ? Had some issues rebuilding them last night - seemed a Log backup was needed.

Failure in restoring an database from tape - SQL Server 2005

Hello everyone, we are trying to restore one of our datebase from tape using the T-Sql commands. Using the GUI results in an timeout. The command we are using to start the restore is: RESTORE DATABASE RECOV FROM Tape = '\\.\tape0' WITH  FILE=2, RECOVERY, NOUNLOAD, STATS=5, MOVE 'xxx_OPL_xxxx_ZEELAND' TO 'K:\RECOVER\data\RECOV.mdf', MOVE 'xxx_OPL_xxxx_ZEELAND' TO 'K:\RECOVER\log\RECOV_log.ldf', REPLACE the restore proces start without any problem, only ending with this: Processed 2598808 pages for database 'xxx_OPL_xxxx_ZEELAND', file 'xxxx_PROD_Data' on file 2. Processed 3 pages for database 'xxxx_OPL_xxxx_ZEELAND', file 'xxxx_PROD_Log' on file 2. Msg 3229, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Request for device '\\.\tape1' timed out. Msg 3213, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Unable to unload one or more tapes. See the error log for details. Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally. In the eventlog, the following is recorded: BackupTapeFile::UnloadTape: PrepareTape(UNLOCK) failure on backup device '\\.\tape0'. Operating system error 21(The device is not ready.). For as far we can judge, the tapedrive is functioning without problems. Using the same tape in an other tapedrive on an different server results in the same error. Sql Server 2005 backup misses files

I have a SQL Server 2005 database that contains 3 files.  Sometimes when I run rhe backup, it appears to only backup 2 of the three files.  The only way I can get it to return to a full backup is to restore the database from a backup tape.

Why doesn't SQL Server 2005 Enterprise always shrink a log file after a backup?

I have several databases that, despite being backed up regularly, do not release space to the operating system.  In one extreme case, I have a log file that is less than 1% utilized (and has been for months.) I know how to manually force a shrink, but I should not need to do that on any sort of regular basis.  In fact, it is against best practices to manually shrink a log file (or any database file for that matter) because of the very high risk of an unrecoverable error. It is my understanding that SQL Server will eventually handle these things on its own.  However, it does not appear to be doing so.  Any thoughts as to why? Thanks, Dave

SQL Server 2005 (X64) Maintenance Clean Up Task Using Hours Option for File Age

I'm running into an issue with SQL Server 2005 64-bit and the maintenance clean up tasks.  I have it set up to delete any transaction logs or backups older than 12 hours.  It seems that there could be some sort of bug because, according to the log files, SQL is running the clean up for 12 days instead.  I've created a work around for this by using execute transact-sql tasks instead, but was wondering if there's a problem with my version of SQL Server, like an SP or patch that I've overlooked. Here's my version information: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06 (X64)   Oct 14 2005 00:35:21   Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation  Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2)

SQL 2005 backup and restore onto new server - for DR and testing purposes

all I have a beefy server that currenty runs my SQL server, however i would like to backup this server and restore it to a different server then use SQL replication in a DR solution.

I have W3K R2 SP1 with SQL 2005 (version 9.00.3042.00)
The phycial server has:
DISK 0 - C: (conatins OS and system files 12GB)
and E: (conatins SQL logs 124GB)

DISK 1 - D: (some program files, and the SQL DB 408GB) - Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data

all DISK's are NTFS formatted

How can I best accomplish my goal?

Should I use NTBACKUP and then do a restore onto a new server?
Should I build a new sever with W3KR2 with the same partitions and then backup the sql db via sql and do a restore onto the new server?
could I utilise hyper-v?

I do not have much experience with MS SQL server.

SQL Server Maintenance Plan - Update Statistics fails if schema contains special chars

We have a database schema with a period in it's name.  This is valid as per http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa224033(SQL.80).aspx. When we create a maintenance plan to update statistics it will succeed if the object property is set to 'Tables and Views'. If this is set to 'Table' it will fail.

Steps to Reproduce

  • Create a new schema in a user database with a period in it's name, ie
    CREATE SCHEMA [Windows.EventLog] AUTHORIZATION [dbo]
  • Create a table with owner using schema created in #1, ie
    CREATE TABLE [Windows.EventLog].[Computer](
    	[ComputerId] [smallint] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
    	[ComputerName] [varchar](255) NOT NULL,
    ) ON [PRIMARY]
  • Create a new maintenance plan, drag 'Update Statistics Task' to designer surface, edit properites, choose the user database, View T-SQL and test execution: it will work
  • Edit maintenance plan and modify 'Update Statistics Task', change Object to Table, change selection to all, execute task and it will fail. Also, if you now try to click 'View T-SQL' or change it back to 'Tables and Views', a error dialog with title 'Microsoft.SqlServer.MaintenancePlanTasksUI' shows will message 'Object

Maintenance Plan - Full Backup

Hey all

I am running a maintenance plan (Sql Server 2008 Enterprise) every night at mid-night. All the plan entails is doing a full backup of one database (about a 3GB database). We are getting timeouts on our site at exactly that point when the database is being backed up and they last up to 20min. I was under the impression that doing backups this way does not take the db down? Or am I wrong about this?

Has anyone else experienced this and if so what steps did you take to rectify it? Sorry if I have not provided other information, just let me know and I will give it to you.

SQL Server 2005 Maintenance Plans - Reporting And Logging Does Not Work

I have a maintenance plan built on a SQL Server 2005 instance that rebuilds indexes, rebuilds statistics, checks for database integrity, performs a maintenance cleanup, and performs a history cleanup.  This job runs once per week.

In the "Reporting and Logging" section I have the following options:

- Generate a text file report is checked

- Create a new file is selected

- A valid destination folder is identified

- Send report to an email recipient is checked

- A valid agent operator is selected

- Log extended information is checked

The job seems to complete successfully and a report is created and emailed, but the only information in the report is as follows:

Quest SLSSQLMaint Utility.
Logging on to SQL Server 'DEVSQL01' with Windows Authentication
Logged on to SQL Server 'DEVSQL01'

[1] Delete old text report files...
[1] Execution Time: 0 hrs, 0 mins, 0 secs.

[2] Send DBMail or SendMail report file....

[2] Execution Time: 0 hrs, 0 mins, 1 secs.

End of maintenance plan 'DB Maintenance Plan (No Backups) [DB Maintenance]' on 9/29/2010 8:40:49 PM (Success)
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.4\MSSQL\Binn\slssqlmaint.exe Process Exit Code: 0 (Success)

Where is the information about the rest of the maintenance plan?&nbs

SQL 2005 "Class Not Registered" error when saving a Maintenance Plan

We are running SQL 2005 Standard Edition SP3 on a single server. Anytime I attempt to save a maintenance plan, I get a "Class Not Registered" error. I also got this when attempting to edit or delete Maintenance Plans created previously, when this functionality was working. On this server there is a SQL Server 2000 as the default instance, and the SQL Server 2005 is a named instance.

Looking at other posts everywhere, installing SP2 or SP3 can break the ability to create or edit Maintenance Plans. I can confirm that SSIS is running and that I can now connect to Integration Services in Mainagement Studio (and I was able to delete my old plans in the Integration Services). There was a problem with this which was cured by manually registering dts.dll and msDtsSrvrUtil.dll in the DTS/Binn folder. I wonder if I need to manually register any more DLLs.

Transfered ssis of type maintenance plan connect to wrong server

I transfered a maintenance plan using the method to transfer ssis with sql server management studio.

The sql task contained in my maintenance plan are set to use the "local server connection".  Somehow, when I run the maintenance plan on the target server, the sql task get executed on the source server from which I imported the maintenance plan.

In other words:
I transfer a maintenance plan from server A to server B.
The maintenance plan is set to use local server connection.
Running the maintenance plan on server B affects the server A instead of the server B.

Is there a way to refresh or repair the "local server connection" so that it actually connect to the current server instead of the one the ssis was imported from.

Here are some references on the method I used.
