Trouble installing SSRS 2008 R2, XP Pro SP3, can't access Web Service or Report Manager URLs

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I found a great thread by Uday titled "SQL 2008 Reporting Services Win XP SP2" and worked through it, but I am still stumped.

I am using port 8080 cause this was default.  I tried changeing to 80, but it didn't help, so changed back.  IIS is using port 80 and is currently stopped.

I see both databases in SQL Server and can query while logged in as Account that is used for the service account.  SSRS is running.

URL reservations look good in the rsreportserver.config file.  In Native mode.

While in RS Config Manger I can test database connection and it is good.  When I click the webservice URL or the Report Manger URL in the Config Manager I get errors "Web site can not be found" and "Website can not display page"  I just upgraded to IE 8.  Can't figure out what to do next.

When I use httpcfg.exe I see a URL for http://+:8080/ReportServer/   and http://+:80/Reports/.  This could be the problem.  How can I chages seconfd to port 8080?

Any help would be appreciated.

SSRS 2008 Custom Authentication works when using ReportServer url but not when report manager url is

Hi, I am using SSRS 2008 with Custom security extension for authentication. The extension is developed in c#. I have placed the dll under report server bin and report manager bin directory and the logon, login pages under appropriate directory. My reports manager url is http://localhost:port/Reports and my reports server url is http://localhost:port/ReportServer. When I try to login through reports manager url, I am getting 'login failed' error message from the dll. But when I try to login using reports server url, it works. I have also set 'FullTrust' named permission set in RSMgrPolicy.config . <CodeGroup class="FirstMatchCodeGroup" version="1" PermissionSetName="FullTrust" Description="This code group grants MyComputer code Execution permission. "> < IMembershipCondition class = " ZoneMembershipCondition " version = " 1 " Zone = " MyComputer " /> Any suggestions please!   Thanks!

SQL 2008 External access returns wrong address for Report Manager

Hello, I have problems with the external access for report server. My report server is running in a local server on port 80, which can be accessed through http://servername/reports I have set up external access to the report server through http://servername.domain.com:8081/reports , so I set up a redirection from public port 8081 to port 80 on the local server. When I write the address http://servername.domain.com:8081/reports in a browser, I get asked for user authentication(Windows domain user), which is accepted, but after that I get an error because the URL automatically changes to http://servername.domain.com/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx (without the port 8081) If I write http://servername.domain.com:8081/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx , it works. I can see the report manager home page and browse through my reports. But there are some links in the page that are built improperly, since they still point to the wrong URL (without port 8081). These are e.g. the Help link, the Report Builder link, the Details view link.  So I think there is something wrong with the response the report server sends, when I write ".../Reports" and returns ".../Reports/Pages/Folders.aspx" I haven't found any configuration file or property where this response is specified, neither where the report

SSRS 2008 - report manager: System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server

I have an instance of Reporting Services 2008 running on Windows 2003 server.  So, the webservice URL is running on port 801, and runs fine (I can browse reports from that directory, and upload / deploy new reports and overwrite existing reports. Report manager is set to use port 800 (IIS is also on that machine running port 80).  When I attempt to connect to report manager, I get the following error, with a link to "Home" in report manager (which brings me back to the existing error page):    Unable to connect to the remote server  In the logfiles for reporting services, the following error is there: " System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.   Any ideas? Windows Firewall is NOT running on this machine.   Thanks, Chrisrjp

Deploying SSRS Reports from Visual Studio 2010 to Report Manager 2008

Our Report server is using Report Manager 2008. Previously I would load reports to it that I created via BIDS. Now I have to use VS 2010. I see that I can build and deploy reports there. Can I send it from VS 2010 to the REport manager 2008 on the other machine? I should add that now i have to develop on laptop only before i was on the server.

If not what are my options? I recall that vs 2005 objects were not taken in Report manager 2008.

SSRS 2008 R2 After using SSL, In Report Manager new datasource link, upload file link, subscription

I have provided my setting and environment information below. My goal is to set Report Manager and Report Server URL with SSL connection so all URLs uses HTTPS (Secure connection) all the time. and remove HTTP access .

I applied following settings for this but I am getting errors. With Current Settings that I mensioned below, I am able to login into WebService URL successfully with all links working. For Report Manager URL  I logged in successfully but for some pages I am getting HTTP links instead HTTPS. It shows HTTP links for new datasource link, upload file link, subscription links so it shows blank page

I tried to look for solution and I applied but did not worked. I did some experiment with changing urls using application and manually from RSReportServer.config file but still not succedded.

Steps taken to solve problem:

  • To force to use HTTPS only, I tried to change SecureConnectionLevel = 0 to  1,2 or 3 but when accessing to Report Manager it gives 401 Authentication error.
  • If I remove http://+:80/ReportServer and tried to visit 2nd URL with HTTPS. The Web Service URL opens successfully. but Report Manager url gives me er

SSRS 2008 Report Manager only accessible within the server, cannot open on a different PC

How should I configure my SQL 2008 Reporting Services so that the Report Manager can be accessed outside the server.  That is, from a different machine within the same network?  Whenever I try to access the Report Manager from another machine, a prompt will appear requesting for username/password several times before a blank page is shown.

Reporting Services Configuration Details:
Service Account: Local System
Execution Account: Tried using my own login details within the domain and tried without it

Please let me know if you need any other details.  I am running out of ideas on what I can possibly do, thanks!

SSRS 2008 R2 and sharepoint 2007 report builder problems

I upgraded our enterprise sql server 2008 to sql server 2008 r2 last weekend.  Along with this i installed the report builder 3.0 on the servers as well and the updated ssrs add in for sharepoint.  The upgrade went fine, no errors that i could find.  The problem is now when i go to a library that has the report builder content type enabled and click report builder report under new it does not load report builder 3.0.

I updated the custom report builder url in central administration from /_vti_bin/ReportBuilder/ReportBuilder_2_0_0_0.application to /_vti_bin/ReportBuilder/ReportBuilder_3_0_0_0.application

however when i do click the new report builder report it kicks me over to http://company.com/ReportServer_MossEnt  which itemizes out each individual sharepoint site in the farm.

Is the integration of ssrs 2008 r2, sharepoint 2007 and report builder 3.0 work?  did i install the wrong version of the report builder add in?  The above is the only problem i am having now.

all servers are server 2008, 64 bit and moss 2007 enterprise with sp2 & april 2010 cu

ssrs 2008 R2 - report parameter with no default set throws java script error

We have recently upgraded from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2008 R2....I am experiencing a problem with my report parameters on my SSRS reports. It seems that my report parameters that I do not have a specified 'default' value throws a java script error when I try and run/render the report under R2.  As soon as I put a 'default' value on the report param, everything is fine.  However, that is not the behavior we need for our reports...the user needs to pick their selection. Can anyone shed some light on this, it seems to be an AJAX problem...I need to be able to have report parameters with a list of values, but no 'default' value on the parameter.

SSRS 2008 R2 - Query builder freezes and needs to be shut down Report Builder 3 when attempting quie

Hi, In SSRS, using Report Builder 3.0 (SSRS R2), after choosing a Report Model as the report's embedded data source, launched "Query Deisinger…" from GUI to build data source in report.  First 1-2 attempts at querying underlying data source (Oracle back-end), are successful, but later attempts freeze application to the point where application freezes and overall Report Builder application needs to be forcibly shut-down. This system freeze has occurred when referencing tables containing a very small number of records as well as larger data sets.  Suspect that application freezing may be caused by timing-out of connection to back-end database. but I am not sure. Any suggestion to solve this issue? Thanks   Environment - Distributed deployment Server1(report_srv) --Windows server 2003R2 64bit, Installed sql server 2008R2 reporting service, configuration tools Server2 (report_db_srv) --windows server 2003r2 64bit, sql server 2005 for report server database

SSRS 2008 Help Setting Up Multiple URLs

I have a new SSRS 2008 installation that currently only has the default URL setup (http://computername:80/Reports).  I am trying to setup a second URL to be accessed by the intranet.  I want it to be a more generic name such as http://finance.  I have tried adding a second host name but when I do that it just says the page is not available.  What do I need to do in order to get this setup?  Do I need a registered domain name?  I have no clue where to start.

Issues in GetItemDataSources web service call in 2008 Report Server R2

Hi, I'm using Reporting Services web services endpoint ReportService2005.asmx with 2008 report server R2 and I'm facing some issues in getting the data source names for a report definition using the GetItemDataSources web service. The problem is that the data source names returned are different from the names of the actual data sources on the report server. The report has the following data sources: 0 1 _0 _A Data Source And the names returned by the GetItemDataSources for 2008 report server R2 is: AutoGen_0 AutoGen_1 AutoGen__0 AutoGen__A Data_Source When I make the same calls using a 2005 report server, the names returned are the same as that in the report definition. To summarize, only numeric data source names are changed to "Autogen_<number>"(eg. Autogen_0), data source names beginning with "_" are changed to "Autogen_<data source name>"(eg. AutoGen__A)  and spaces are replaced by an "_".   What is the problem for the data source names returned for 2008 report server R2? Or has there been any change in the way in which report server stores the data source names? Thanks, Kulbhushan Singhal.

Don't see tab and toolbar of the report manager application after installing sql server reporting s

Hello everyone: I have tried to install and configure Reporting Service. I found lots of  errors along the way. The first one was an error (500.23) from IIS7. I applied the suggested solution on the IIS screen which was migrating configuration using AppCmd ( %SystemRoot%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd migrate config "Default Web Site/"). Next problem was  : Request is not available in this context Stack Trace: [HttpException (0x80004005): Request is not available in this context] System.Web.HttpContext.get_Request() +3465893 Microsoft.ReportingServices.UI.Global.get_ConfigurationManager() +47 Microsoft.ReportingServices.UI.GlobalApp.Application_Start(Object sender, EventArgs e) +32  This error was caused by the fact that Report Server and Report Manager were configured to DefaultAppPool in the Reporting Service Configuration Manager. I have switched to Classic .Net AppPool  for both Report Server and Report Manager and it has fixed the problem. Now my problem is that the Report Manager Application ( http://localhost/reports/folders.aspx ) shows no tab, toolbar or folder. What I now have on the Report Manage Application page is the header with the title and [home] and [Help] button links on the top right corner. I have made a report to test the problem but no folder shows o

Graphs stop displaying in Report Viewer Control after upgrade to SSRS 2008 R2

We are seeing an issue where certain graphs and guages are not being displayed within a report rendered in the report viewer control after we upgraded from SSRS 2008 to SSRS 2008R2.  You can see the graphs and guages render and then disappear from the screen when two other graphs are rendered.  When I export the report to Excel or PDF then all of the graphs and guages are rendered properly. There are a total of 3 graphs and 2 guages on the report - when it completes the rendering process, you can only see two of the graphs displayed in the report viewer control - as I said before, you can see all 3 graphs and 2 guages when exporting to Excel or PDF.  Using Internet Explorer v8.  This problem manifest itself right after the upgrade. Has anyone seen a similar issue?
