I am trying to build a report using the date field from CRM and only wanting to return the date I am using this expression "=Fields!new_date.Value.ToShortDateString()" but when there is an empty fiel I get #Error. How do I solve this?
Also is there anyway to return the date field with the actual month showing instead of the numerical value? i.e. instead of 1/31/2010 Have it show January 31, 2010 (Doesn't have to be exactly in that format, but want the name value for the month.)

My Data was created by retrieving ODBC data - using PowerPivot for Excel 2010, and has Birthdate defined as a Data Type = "Date". This was uploaded to SharePoint, and a New Dataset was created to point at it.
I'm using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Report Builder 3.0. I tried to filter this data on Birthdate, but when I go into the Filter, and specify the field that was defined as DataType = "Date" in PowerPivot - Report Builder changes the type to "Text",
and gray's out the field so that I can't change it to "Date".
If I create an Expression as Cdate(Birthdate.Value), it lets me change the Data Type to "Date", and works appropriately, but we don't want to have to do this with every date field.
Why doesn't Report Builder see this field as a Date ?
We are using below Topology in productionTopology is 3 servers: Sever1: Sharepoint Form (wss3.0 no MOSS) Sever2: Sql server 2008Server3: Reporting Services 2008Operating system on 3 servers: Windows server 2008.Authentication mode: Form based authentication. SSRS reports are working success fully in SharePoint using above topology, The issue is through SharePoint library when i am trying to access report builder reports the client is installing, after enter the credentials it is not connecting to server and am getting the following error "Unable to connecting server at 'http://servername/Reports/Forms/AllItems.aspx' please use different url" The above issue on production only. But in local development box there is no problem (in my development box SharePoint t, database (sql) and reporting service sits on my box only) Thanks for your he
I have created a Report Model and published it on our QA environment Report Server(Where I dont have admin access). When I try to launch the Report Builder tool and create a sample report and Run the report it gives me this error. "The permissions granted to user 'Domainname/user group' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)" I checked with the Admins on this server the usergroup has a "Browser" Role. I had read on some online fourm that if user group has browser role it should work. But I cant get it work any help is appreciated.
I have published the same Report Model in Deveploment environmentÃÂ report server(where I have admin access)ÃÂ and when I do the same thing I am able to run the reports.
Some one please help me its causing delay in our testing.
Since Report Builder 2.0 is targetted at making reporting simple to createÃÂ by end users, and most databases are normalised, I am looking for a way to add lookups to report fields.ÃÂ By this I mean that the report should display a description rather than the code actually stored in the record being reported.
I know that this is possible by altering the SQL for the main report dataset to include a "left outer join" to the table of codes and descriptions related to the foreign key column, returning the description rather than the code (see below), but this is not something that I would expect end users to be able to implement.
ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ m.code1,
ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ lu.Descript,
ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ m.code2,
... etc ..
... etc ..
fromÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ main_table m left outer join
ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ lookup_table lu on lu.Code = m.code1
For end users, I would expect a right click menu on the
I have an SQL view that I am using as my Dataset within my Report Builder. When I run the view from SQL, I get the anticipated number of rows.
When I execute my report in Report Builder, only the first row is retrieved and displayed.
I just installed SQL 2008 R2 Reporting Services. I can launch Report Builder no problem, however a couple users the the pop-up "application validation did not succeed. Unable to continue". The details of the error are below, but the line that seems to be
the culprit is...
http://wtsql01/REPORTINGSERVICE/ReportBuilder/ReportBuilder_3_0_0_0.application resulted in exception. Following failure messages were detected:
+ File, s10ch_rptdesign.chm, has a different computed hash than specified in manifest.
Has anyone seen this before? It's odd that it works for some users, but not others. Thanks.

I have existing report connected to SSAS cube. When I try to change the query and click OK, i get this message "Could not update a list of fields for the query. Verify that you can connect to the data source and your query syntax is correct"
My Query syntax and access to data source dont have any problem. Because fo this issue, i cannot update the query used in the report. How do i resolved this issue?
I'm working with SQL2005 and Reporting2005, I've created some report and I had published on a report server everything works ok, the thing is that I've tried open the reports with the report builder and shows me this error message.
Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportBuilder.ReportModel.Report: The operation you are attempting on item "/Data Sources/Fis_Datasource" is not allowed for this item type. ---> The operation you are attempting on item "/Data Sources/Fis_Datasource" is not
allowed for this item type.
I already have configured the datasource and the model was created, but I don't know why I can't open the report.
Hope that someone can helpme with this
HI I have a report that worked fine until we upgraded the SQL server from 2008 to 2008 R2 and the report viewer to latest version as well. This report has a pie display, NOW instead of showing one pie, it is showing 20 pies!
I am trrying to learn how to resolve and what is causing this.
I need some help.
If I create a Report with a Matrix Tablix (with row Groups and column groups) in landscape layout and preview it in print layout, the report generates me some extra empty page every 2nd page.
I don't understand the rule, why it's doing that.
My Report settings are:
According my Report settings this shouldn't happen, should it. The width of my Tablix is max 22cm.
What I noticed is, that when I shrink the width of my Report Body to 21 cm (to the width of the portrait layout) or less, the emtpy pages disappear.
Or when I delete the column group, it also renders the report without some empty pages.
I think this problem has something to do with column groups.
Is this a bug or am I missing a setting?
SPQuery is not working properly, its throwing following exception.
"One or more field types are not installed properly. Go to the list settings page to delete these fields."
Please check the code snippet below:
