.net 2.0 client using a web reference to a basicHttpBinding in WCF

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WCF

I have a .net 3.5 wcf service deployed on 2003R2/64 bit servers. This has been working fine with .net 2.0 C# clients using a web reference for a long time. Now we need to update the interface to use https.

I have been working over a lot of examples on how to setup the server side configuration, but I haven't found any reference to the types of clients these examples are using, or if it even matters. Since I can't seem to get this to work, the next question is can a C# .net 2.0 client, using a web reference also use https to a wcf service?

I am using VS2008/SP1 for both the client and server development.

Add Service reference not updaing the client apps web.config file in .Net Framework 4.0

Hi Team

I am doing some experiments with WCF on .Net 4.0. I have created a service in 4.0 and add a new empty web application to consume my Service. When i added a service reference from the IDE, i can see the web.config file is not updated with the Servcie end points. How do i solve this issue?

My web.config in the client looks like this after adding the service reference.

WCF session client service reference "State" is not updated when the server side has closed

I am using vb.net (Visual Studio 2008 with framework 3.5). I have a server that exposes several services requiring sessions. I am using wsHttpBinding for all. One of my requirements is to allow non-dot net third parties to access these services. When a client connects to a service and then some time later the server goes away, the state of the connection is still reporting "open".

Currently I have implemented a "ping" function on the server. My client calls this function every 5 to 10 seconds and if the server does shutdown, I get alerted with an exception error. This works, but I was wondering if there is a way where I don't have to call my ping function?

I don't want to use a dual connection binding and I was hoping to use the connection state variable? But, I don't know how to get it to update by itself. The client user application could just wait until it goes to invoke a service method, but I was wondering if there was another way.

Thanks in advance!!

Looking for Microsoft Ajax 4 Client Templates reference/documentation/help

 I inherited the application that uses Microsoft Ajax 4 client templates. Syntax like {binding x, source=y, <another attribute>=z...}, special variables like: $id, $element, $itemdata, and Sys.UI.DataView components are all over. I don't understand the syntax and the usage.

I've been looking on the Web for any help, and all I find are some blogs that use those syntaxes, but no documentation. This site (asp.net) might had them in the past but now all they have is jQuery and Control Toolkit.

Can you please provide me some links where I can learn about MS client templates, syntax, Sys.UI.DataView, and how to use them.

Can a table name impact generating the service client when creating Service Reference?

I have a new WCF service I'm writing under VS2010 and IIS 7.5.  The service includes a table named Client.

When I built my test class and added the service reference, the first test was confirming the creation of the client.

My service reference did not generate any client that I could call .Open on!!!! I was wondering if it is due to that table name???

 Edited to add that I tested the service through the browser and it brings up the page and XAML fine.

Thanks for any assistance!

A better way to reference your wizard steps using named steps

Note: this article uses the plain vanilla but the concepts apply equally well to its popular counterpart .

By far the most common way that I see wizard steps reference in code snippets is by their index.

Use jQuery and ASP.NET AJAX to build a client side Repeater

By sending only data to the client, you can profoundly reduce the size of what you send and see a substantial increase in performance. You also allow yourself the ability to easily add features like light-weight sorting and paging on the client. This can not only improve your users' experience, but reduce server load and bandwidth requirements.

Client Side Gridview Pagination using JQuery

I would like to show how to use Client Side Gridview Pagination using Jquery Table Pagination Plugin by using Ryan Zielke.

To that end, I'm going to walk you through these four steps to effectively implementing a client side Repeater, using ASP.NET AJAX and jQuery:

Practical Multithreading for Client Apps

Writing applications that use multiple threads is often considered an advanced programming task, prone to errors. In this month's column, I'll focus on a practical application of multithreading in Windows® Forms applications with some real benefits, while attempting to keep things simple. My goal is to present multithreading in an approachable way that addresses a very common need: writing applications with a user interface that remain responsive to the user.

Adding Client-Side Confirmation When Deleting

The JavaScript confirm(string) function displays its string input parameter as the text inside a modal dialog box that comes equipped with two buttons - OK and Cancel (see Figure 1). The confirm(string) function returns a Boolean value depending on what button is clicked (true, if the user clicks OK, and false if they click Cancel).

want to execute url without showing that page or url to client.

hello friends,

I need ur help,what i want to do is to execute a url ("To send a text message to client") on client registration but without showing that url page, in short executing url without displaying any page or url to the client.

please help and thanks in advance.

Client script not running

Dear all,

in my MVC 2 application, and in the shared Master Page I wrote this little script for menu handling :

<script src="../../Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () {

     $('#nav li').hover(
         function () {
             //show its submenu
             $('ul', this).slideDown(100);

         },
        function () {
           //hide its submenu
            $('ul', this).slideUp(100);
         }
     );

 });</script>

The script, that shows menu items when the

reference from menubuttons to text parts in article on the same page

Hi, I'm searching now for hours but couldn't find it.Cry

In my menu i have several buttons which (by a <a href..) should go the a part of an article that is in the same form.

Menu button : What is a database should go to the page default.aspx and in there is an article published.
A part of this article is having a piece of text about "what is a database"

Menu button: how to make a query should go to this same article in the same page but then to the part that is have the piece about the query. The next could be an example of what i'm doing:

<ul>
    <li><a href="default.aspx ?????>what is a database</a></li>
    <li><a href="default.aspx ?????>what is a query</a></li>

Where my question marks are, there should be a connection to that particular piece of text.
In each article part there is an ID="text1" and the second part id="text2"

How shoudl i do that, Should i use a question mark.
Please give me some guidance how to structure the <li> statement or a pointer where I can read about it.

Reference HttpApplication from a separate HttpApplication

I want to create a website that can monitor the status of other websites running on the same server. Is this possible? How do I get a reference to a site's HttpApplication context from a separate HttpApplication?

Registering controls of current assembly object reference NOT set error

Hi There,

I have created a simple ASP.net Web Application (2.0) and have added a web user control.

Now in my page I have added this control but I have registered like this,

<%@ Register Assembly="WebApplication1" Namespace="WebApplication1" TagPrefix="Custom" %>

Which means I want to access all the controls in my current Web Application project

Then I have added my user control like this,

<Custom:MyUserControl ID="MyUserControl1" runat="server" PublicProperty="Hello" />

Every thing is fine but when I execute the project, NO control on my user control gets "instantiated" and thus I receive error "Object Reference Not Set"

Note that My Control has,

1) Public property PublicProperty as String

2) 1 Label control

In Load Event Handler I am setting Text property of Label Control to PublicProperty. Here object reference NOT set error occurs (which means Label control is NOT initialized).

I don't want to register my control using Src, TagPrefix etc. Any ideas?

Thanks

Problem to obtain client IP on web service

Friends,

I'm having problems to obtain the client IP on web service. Here's my scenario:

One server with Windows 2003, hosting the web service using .Net Framework 2.0, with IP 10.0.2.50 and host name ServerTransaction.
Other server with Windows 2003, hosting a web application using .Net Framework 2.0, that consuming the web service on  ServerTransaction, with IP 10.0.2.51 and host name ServerApplication.
Many other computers on the local network (IPs: 10.0.2.80, 10.0.2.81, 10.0.2.82, ...) acessing the web application on ServerApplication.

On the code of the web service I've tried to use HttpContext.Current.Request.UserHostAddress or HttpContext.Current.Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_ADDR") or HttpContext.Current.Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FORR"), but always I can only get the IP of ServerApplication (10.0.2.51).

Any idea or tip?

Thanks and sorry for my bad english.
