Exporting SharePoint profile picture to ActiveDirectory thumbnailPhoto attribute problem!

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I am trying to export SharePoint profile Picture to ActiveDirectory thumbnailPhoto attribute.  Here's what I did so far :

  • FIM account has Replicating Directory Changes, Read and Write permissions on the users OU
  • Central Administration -> Manage service applications -> User Profile Service Application -> Manage User Properties -> Picture -> Edit -> Add New Mapping -> AD - thumbnailPhoto - export
  • Start Profile Synchronization
  • Result :

Stage SharePoint Server export
Additions 0
Updates 0
Unchanged 0
Successes 0
Failures 0

I have then found on the Internet that since My Sites are in https, I have to load the root certificate in SharePoint.  I use a "GeoTrust DV SSL CA" for My Sites so I have downloaded the GeoTrust_Global_CA.cer root certificate from GeoTrust and did the following :

  • Central Administration -> Security -> Manage Trust -> New -> GeoTrust - GeoTrust_Global_CA.cer
  • Result :

The Root Certificate that was just selected is inv

Sharepoint 2010: Editing My Profile:Choose Picture gives errors

Hi, I've got the User Profile Service Application up and running.  When I try to add my picture to my Profile by clicking on the Choose Picture button, it gives an error.  Any ideas?   Thanks.

User Profile Sync - Profile Picture Export to AD Problem

To start, I think I've read every post/blog/etc there is on this subject.  Currently I have user profile import to Sharepoint 2010 working.  It imports profile data just fine.  Everything in the FIM Synchronization manager show success even.  Its the export from Sharepoint to AD of the user profile picture that isn't working at all.  I've gone thru the steps of adding the thumbnailphoto export under the picture properties.  I can see the export inside of the FIM manager.  I notice though that in FIM there is there a DS_EXPORT of the objects.  I've looked into the SyncDB and noticed in the metaverse table the SPS_MV_OctetString_PictureURL never gets updated with the information from the PictureURL column of the ProfileDB.  It is always Null.  Actually in FIM it only shows one person with an update, and keep showing the PictureURL property as being not applied, which is probably because it is showing it as blank only.  In the connector for the object in FIM, I get the error that I've seen in some blog posts where it says PictureURL (String) is not compatible with SPS_MV_OctetString_PicutreURL (binary), but that seems to be how Sharepoint builds the connection even though FIM finds it invalid.  I've had that created, deleted several times, so I guess that is ordinary, and not sure that is even the problem.

User Profile Sync - Picture to thumbnailphoto export

Hi there,

I'm trying to get the staff pictures from My Sites to update the thumbnailphoto attribute in Active Directory.

I've setup the User Profile Sync, and I'm able to import and export to AD. However, I'm having a problem getting the Picture property to update the thumbnailphoto attribute. I can't find any errors, and it looks as though the sync is working to some extent because any previous information in thumbnailphoto is cleared after a sync.

If I look at what's going on in Forefront Identity Manager for 'DS_EXPORT', i can see that it has deleted the old value, and that the new value is empty.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

how to import user Profile Picture already stored in AD as thumbnailphoto or jpegphoto

We already store out photos in AD using both the thumbnailsphoto and jpegphoto properties. Outlook2010 shows the user profile correctly. Now we want to sync sharepoint 2010 with AD and retreive the photo. I currenrlt have it setup as mentioned in this MSDN post to Export.

Is it odd that the thumbnailphoto and jpeg photo have been in AD since at least 2007( I think they were even in 2003 schema) but that this user profile syncing to those two atributes isn't the default behavour? Outlook 2010 used those photos instantly, yet sharepoint can't out of the box?

I've opened a Case with MS about this. I'll post findings here.

**Edit 2**

Also the previous method used in Moss 2007 doesn't work wither. Setting the URL to the photo in an AD ExtensionAttribute1 and having sharepoint import it.

Programmatically Upload Pictures to SharePoint Profile Picture Store using Powershell

I'm trying to create a powershell script that will bulk upload pictures to the SharePoint Profile Picture Store located in a "http://sp2010/my/User Photos/Profile Pictures".  I found Chris Johnson's blog post ( http://blogs.msdn.com/b/cjohnson/archive/2010/05/08/sharepoint-2010-office-2010-and-profile-pictures.aspx )  extremely useful.  However, the SPUtils.ps1 that is referenced on his site doesn't seem to support uploading to the "Profile Pictures" folder within the "User Photos" picture library at "http://sp2010/my/User Photos".  My account has full control of the "User Photos" picture library and the "Profile Pictures" folder, and I can upload to the "User Photos", root directory with no problems.  The file fails to upload to the "Profile Pictures" folder.

Currently my Powershell script processes a folder of pictures.  First, it pulls the file name and does some manipulations to retrieve the employee number of the employee.  Second, it performs an active directory search to get the employee's user name.  Third, it resizes the photo to match the small, medium, and large thumbnails generated by a traditional manual upload of a photo from the user's edit profile page.  After each creation of the resized picture it uploads the picture t

SharePoint 2010 - Profile Synchronization Service Problem

I have a problem with the synchronization service. It all started when our customer in this case wanted to change the account used for the synchronization connection.
We set up a new account and added replicate directory changes access to the account but when we tried to switch account on the connection we got an error in Central Administration.
We then tried to delete the connection but this also resulted in an errormessage.
When this didn't work we tried adding a new connection with the new user wich worked but still couldn't delete the old connection using the wrong account.
To try and fix the problem we tried resetting the sync service following MS directions. This didn't work either and now the service won't start so the connections won't show up in the connections list.

Does anyone have any clue what to do next? I'm out of ideas.

User Profile Picture Mapping - Use existing SharePoint image library?

In SharePoint 2007 we did not use the Profile Pictures, but would like to start using them.  At the time, a consultant set up a separate picture library for the employee photos that was managed by the HR department.  Is it possible to somehow map the Profile Picture property to the images in this library?  Or do we have to upload them to each user's profile?  Our AD administrators do not know how to set AD up to use the URLs, so coming at it from that angle was a dead end.

Configuring Profile Image Export in SharePoint 2010

It's no secret that I am thrilled with the new social features of SharePoint 2010. I am most excited about the new Profile Picture handling. I strongly believe that the more we can show the faces of our colleagues to one another the more connected we will feel. Clearly Microsoft feels that way as witnessed by the many features that make use of the Profile Image like the Activity Feed and Colleagues list

Extended MySite: Profile picture uploading to the wrong zone.

I'm experiencing a problem where uploading a profile picture, in a MySite, uploads it to the wrong zone.

What I've done is created one web application and configured SSP to use that same one. As a result, the MySite host location is in that same web application:

Default Zone:
http://my.domain.com  <-- default SharePoint site.
http://my.domain.com/personal <-- MySite host

I then extended that web application to enable FBA & anonymous access:

Internet Zone:
http://extended.domain.com <-- extended default SharePoint site.

Now I"m able to navigate to a user's MySite using the extended URL (http://extended.domain.com/personal)...but when I upload a new profile picture in my MySite... it prompts me for new credentials because it's trying to upload to the Default zone (http://my.domain.com).

I found the following thread that talks about this...but there wasn't any resolution:

What is the best practices when configuring a MySite in an extended web application? How can I fix the situation I'm encountering above?

P.S. I tried to change the MySite Host location (via SSP in the Central Administration)

Profile Pictures not displayed in Discussion Board in SharePoint 2007

Picture Placeholders are displayed instead of Profile Images in Discussion boards in MOSS 2007 but when you click on the user, their pictures appeared in MySites, also with Search People. How to fix this?!

Sharepoint 2007 Email problem

I've used Sharepoint 2007 to create my website. Within my web pages I've included Forms in order to capture people's contact details, so that when they 'Submit' the form their details are emailed to my email account. The problem is that when I go to Form Properties and insert the email address to which I want the data sent, I receive this message: "This form cannot be configured to send results via email. The web site may be based at a disk-based location, or a location that has not been configured to send email. Contact your system admin or ISP for more info. Would you like to remove the email recipient Yes or No"

I am satisfied that the settings within the webhosting service are correct. Is this functionality available with Sharepoint 2007 or do I need to switch to alternative software.

Problem when installing Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Add-in for Microsoft SharePoint

I have configured the SharePoint Production Server(Standalone) with WS 2008 64 bit version, SQL Server 2005 with SP3 , Visual Studio 2008 and MOSS 2007(SP3). I have configured SSRS 2005 in SharePoint integration mode. Everything works fine till the last step. Now, i am trying to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Add-in for Microsoft SharePoint Technologies feature and failed. I am getting below error message.

Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Add-in for Microsoft SharePoint Technologies -- You must first install SharePoint Server before installing SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint Technologies

Problem accessing Sharepoint 2007 MySite

My users are having an issue accessing their mysites.  When they go to the main portal page or any other site and click the link at the top right of the page to go to their Mysite they are thrown into an endless authentication loop.  If they cancel out of the loop the URL in the address bar is for http://mossserver/_layouts/MySites.aspx

For a user to successfully get to their myself they need to enter the full url like http://mossserver/personal/username/default.aspx

Now, I know somewhat how this happened.  It resulted from me trying to delete a user's mysite and I apparently did it wrong but I'm not sure what I did.  It almost seems like I deleted a redirect page or something...

Looking for any ideas.

Sharepoint 2007 View Problem

I have a document library in Sharepoint 2007 in which I have seet up a number of different views so that the users who work with the information in that library can filter down to the specific area that they work with.  The view itself works great, and they are able to see their data quite easily.  The problem comes when they actually go in and edit any of the items.  Unlike most software in the civilized world for the past 30 years, the user is not returned to the view that they were working with, but to the defult view.  This means that any task where they are required to do many edits at a time becomes a frustrating nightmare and waste of time.  Is there any setting I can change, or anything else at all that I can do to give my users a little relief by making the site navigation such that they are returned after an edit to the same view that they were in before the edit?  Ideally, it would be nice if the same scroll position within the view were returned as well, but I suspect that I may be asking for too much by pushing that issue.  HELP! HELP!  Any and all constructive assistance is appreciated.

SharePoint Calendar Error: The "ListViewWebPart" Web Part appears to be causing a problem. Index was

In one specific SharePoint calendar, on one specific week in that calendar when we select the "more items" link in the monthly view (or the expand all option) we get the following error:
The "ListViewWebPart" Web Part appears to be causing a problem. Index was outside the bounds of the array.

Web Parts Maintenance Page: If you have permission, you can use this page to temporarily close Web Parts or remove personal settings. For more information, contact your site administrator.

If we select a different week the expand and collapse works fine in that calendar.
