Constant 'server restart pending' whenever I try to install Sharepoint Server 2010 Beta

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I've installed all the prerequisites just fine, but every time I run the main installation program it tells me:

"Setup is unable to proceed due to the following error(s):

A system restart from a previous installation or update is pending. Restart your computer and run setup to continue."

After restarting, and doing nothing else, I run the setup again to get the same result.  There are no pending restarts, Server Manager itself normally complains if there is a restart pending, so I don't know where it is getting this from.

THe next thing I will try is to give it a little more RAM in case it makes a difference; the virtual machine currently has 4GB overall and has a few other minor roles as well.  But it would make sense for the installation program to say that instead of telling me it's a reboot.

Thanks

Cannot install Sharepoint Server 2010 "A previous installation has been detected with a license type

I'm trying to upgrade to Team Foundation Server 2010 and Project Server 2010. After getting TFS 2010 and Project Server 2007 to work with WSS 3.0, I started upgrade to Project Server 2010 which requires update to Sharepoint Server 2010 Enterprise. I installed pre-requisites and run "stsadm -o preupgradecheck" which passed everything. When I tried to run the installation I get Setup Warning "A previous installation has been detected with a license type that does not match the install in progress". I thought that my trial licence for Project Server 2007 stopped this so I completely uninstalled WSS 3.0 and restarted the server but the installation still stops with Upgrade window. Any ideas? Can you install SharePoint 2010 and User PerformancePoint in a single server enviroment?

Hi I Installed SharePoint 2010 in a single server farm and I configured a Performance Point service aplication. Whenever I run dashboard designer it seems to work but it eventually crashes. I don´t know if I have any configuration errors. I read this Run the Secure Store Service on a separate application server that is not used for any other service. Create the secure store database on a separate application server running SQL Server. Do not use the same SQL Server installation that contains content databases. Here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee806889.aspx I believe this service is necesary to run connect to data sources does this mean it all cannot be run in the same server.

Purpose of initial "site" in SharePoint Server 2010 Express Install

I’m installing Search Server 2010 Express using “Farm” mode. After the SharePoint Configuration Wizard completes, and selecting  the SharePoint config wizard, one needs to create a website. What is that site intended for? Is it for the Search Center itself? (If so, then I better select the Enterprise – “Basic Search Center" template. If it is intended for a "normal" top level site, then I will create a new Search site in its own web app). TIA, Barkingdog

How can I install Features into the Sharepoint 2010 Server Standard after the install?

I have installed SharePoint Server 2010 Standard. We are testing the functionality of the new system and what it can do. I got an upgraded copy of the HelpDesk and Knowledge Base Templates (Part of the Fab 40) from http://techsolutions.net/Blog/tabid/65/EntryId/17/Fab-40-Templates-for-MOSS-2010.aspx. They seem to be good, but there is a feature that is in the Server that is not installed that I need to be able to get both of these working.

The feature is: Web Analytics Customize Reports functionality (Display Name: WACustomReports).

I need to be able to get this feature installed and activated so that I can use these 2 templates. Is there someone that can help me with this issue?

NOTE: I have tried to use the command line for SharePoint Power Shell. It is not working. The files that it is looking for are not on the HDD where they should be.

Can I install SQL 2008 on a server running SQL 2005 to install Sharepoint 2010 Enterprise (Productio

Hi,

Sharepoint 2010 Upgrade Question - A customer is currently running sharepoint 2007 on a 64bit windows 2003 OS with SQL 2005 sp2, they are looking to install/upgrade to Sharepoint 2010 and want to use the current SQL server, for the upgrade a new SharePoint 2010 environment will be built and for a short while they will have two instances of SharePoint running SP2007 and SP2010. The plan is to then manually migrate the data from SP2007 to SP2010 (ENT), the web and application servers will be newly built. From research I think they have three options

1) Upgrade the current SQL 2005(SP2) instance to SQL 2008 R2 standard.

2) Install a new instance of SQL 2008 R2 on the same server and have both SQL 2005 & SQL 2008 running on the same server (Is this an option? Will sharepoint happily run from a SQL server running two SQL instances, do I have to be careful regarding the installation and configuration, could I break the existing sharepoint farm doing this?)

3) Upgrade the current SQL server to SP3 and install a new instance of SQL 2005 SP3 and install SharePoint 2010 Enterprise here, again I have all the questions from point 2 above.

We are thinking of trying option 1, then 2, then 3, and obviously only moving to the next option if we come across a show stopper. H

Why I can't install Project Server 2010 on my SharePoint 2010 Server?

I recently installed on my server SharePoint 2010, SQL Server 2008 is on another box and all seems to work fine, except that when I try to install Project Server 2010 it keeps telling me that I need ton install SP 2010.

I already checked that the required edition of SP is the Enterprise, as far as I remember that is the edition I activated because I used the Product Key for the  "SharePoint Server 2010 For Internet Sites Enterprise", but to double check this (and correct it if I am wrong I went to the 'Convert License Type' page and not only it does NOT show what my current license is (information is empty), but also the box to type a new Key is disabled, so I am not allowed to try to change the one used.

Can anybody tell me what is going wrong?

DNS Server to install Sharepoint 2010

Want to install Sharepoint 2010 and RDS Gateway on same server, multiple questions

Background:  SMB environment, only have 4 servers.  Want to run SharePoint 2010 Foundation and RDS Web Access and RDS Gateway on same 08R2 server.

1. which one to install first, WSS or RDS?  Either one will install IIS and build and bind to the default website, so does it really matter which one goes first?  I seem to remember on old server installing TS WebApp and Gateway first, then WSS3, and TS WebAccess stopping until I added the host header to WSS.

2.  how to enable HTTPS access to both WSS and RDS WebAcess/Gateway?  this failed on a previous server, which I am now migrating to new hardware/OS.  RDS Web Access and Gateway use the default website.  I can make WSS work http with a host header, but not https.  on old server everytime I enabled an https AAM for my WSS site it stopped the TS Gateway service, but I only had one NIC on that server at the time.  My new server has four NIC's.  So, would a valid solution be to restrict the default website (RDS Web Access and Gateway) binding in IIS to one NIC and then restrict the WSS site to another?  I seem to remember adding a NIC to the old server and trying to change the default site binding from "all unassigned" to just one IP and TS Gateway stopped, but I could be imagining that, it's been a while.
