Error when creating a Workflow in SharePoint 2010

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hello All,

Just wantd to get some help with this problem.  I was trying to create an Out of the Box Signatures Workflow in my test SharePoint 2010 environment but I get the following error:

The following location is not accessible, because it is in a different site collection: http://<servername>/_catalogs/wfpub/Collect%20Signatures%20-%20SharePoint%202010/Signatures_1033.xsn.

Some more info, I did change my server's name just before I tried this.  I did reboot the server and ran the stsadm command -renameserver to force the name change on the server.  I then also did an IIS reset.  Everytime I try to do an IISReset, the first time always comes with:

Attempting stop...
Restart attempt failed.
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion

Error creating Read Item or Read List operation in Sharepoint Designer 2010

In terms of high-level requirements, I need to pull in lists from a couple of different web apps.  To do this, I’m using SPD 2010 to create an External Content Type for the list of interest.  I’m able to create a SOAP Service or WCF Service connection just fine.  However, when I try to create the external content type and create a Read Item Operation on one of the GetList or any other Get* (or other Update methods for that matter) methods, I get the following error:"The method that your operation is based on has parameters with complex types that do not have default parameterless constructor.  This kind of data source methods cannot be used in Business Data Catalog."I tried defining an operation on the “AddAttachment” method, and that worked just fine.  I also tried providing default values to the listName and viewName parameters when creating the SOAP Service connection, but still get the error.  Same issue with a WCF Service connection as well. Does anyone know if this is a 2010 issue, or am I approaching this requirement incorrectly?  What are other approaches for connecting to lists that reside in a different web app than yours?

Access Denied/The workflow could not copy the item workflow error after Sharepoint 2010 upgrade

We have a sharepoint designer workflow that copies a document from one library to another on the same site.  Before the upgrade to 2007 it worked fine, but now with 2010 it gives an error and cancels the workflow when it gets to the copy list item step.   The error on the workflow page: The workflow could not copy the item. Make sure the source and destination lists have the same columns and column settings.  Access Denied   Specifically it is the "copy list item current item to documentlibrary" sharepoint designer workflow action.   I have given the system account full permissions to the library and double checked that all columns are the same in both libraries. Receiving Error when Trying to Develop Sharepoint 2007 Workflow using VS 2010 Pro

I have created a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise (32 bit) SP2 image configured with Sharepoint 2007 Enterprise and a trial edition of Visual Studio 2010 Professional.  All software is fully patched.  When I try to create a new Sharepoint 2007 Sequential Workflow (.NET Framework 3.5) in either C# or VB, I receive a pop-up error: Exception of type 'System.PlatformNotSupportedException' was thrown. and, when I click OK and fill in the name of the workflow and a valid Sharepoint Web URL for testing, I receive the following error: SharePoint site location entered is not valid.  The SharePoint site at <removed> could not be found.  Verify that you have typed the URL correctly.  If the URL should be serving existing content, the system administrator may need to add a new request URL mapping to the intended application. The URL in question references the default SharePoint site on this test server and does exist.  My assumption is that the second error received is a symptom of the first.  I have looked elsewhere and seen issues related to 64bit SharePoint implementations but, this is a 32 bit installation.  Based on the VS 2010 web site, I have met all of the prerequisites for developing SharePoint 2007 workflows through VS 2010 Pro.  Does anyone have any ideas on what I might be missing or what I need to

SharePoint 2010 Workflow - Creating multiple tasks

I'm working on a SharePoint 2010 workflow which will assign multiple tasks to a list of users.

I'm using the Multiple Tasks webcast from Scot Hillier as a guideline
http://www.shillier.com/archive/2010/08/04/Creating_Multiple_and_Parallel_Tasks%20_in_SharePoint_2010_Workflow.aspx, but I cant' get the workflow to work.

I've created the custom activity to create a single task, and used a replicator to start the this custom activity for every user.
However, the sub-activities in my custom activity are not shown(as opposed to webcast).

 public class CreateSingleTaskActivity : SequenceActivity
        public Guid SPTaskId = default(Guid);
        public string SPTaskOutcome = default(String);
        public SPWorkflowTaskProperties SPTaskProperties = new SPWorkflowTaskProperties();
        public SPWorkflowTaskProperties SPAfterProperties = new SPWorkflowTaskProperties();

Error Creating External Content Type using Sharepoint Designer 2010

I am trying to create an external content type using Sharepoint Designer 2010. I ran SD on my local machine and connected to a site on some other machine running Sharepoint Server 2010. The Db on which I want to create my ECT resides on my local machine. When I try to use User Identity to connect to my local Db server, it gives me the error that login failed for user <my domain username>. I have both sql server and windows authentication mode login enabled on my sql server. Any help in this regard is appreciated.

sharepoint designer 2010 error when creating a new template

Hi all, I'll provide a little background detail in the hope that maybe I'm approaching the task the wrong way or my  method is better done via other ways?

I work in a education establishement, we already have our branding on the 2003 version and having recently seen some of the impressive work done in 2007 so wanted to implement branding on the new 2010 version.

Through using one of the basic sharepoint services 2010 templates I wanted to try a little basic re-branding to start off with and see how simplified the process would be, I already have Designer 2010 installed.

A test subsite was created under the 2010 'root' area and opened up in designer 2010. I could immediately see the main areas containing any logo and other branding features was greyed out so effectively editing of master pages was disabled. This was overcome by a little research and finding out I had to enable editing of master pages / templates through the site admin area. I was immediately given access to all master pages (default.master, starter.master and v4.master - which I understand 4v is actually the 'main' master page used?

Here is where the problems begin.....I'm using designer 2010 but each time I create a page based on a master template layout, designer provides the error message 'Sharepoint Designer:

SharePoint Desinger 2010 approval workflow error

I created a copy of the out-of-the-box globally reusable workflow titled, "Approval - SharePoint 2010."

I then modified the "Initiation Form Parameters" in the workflow copy that I created. By default, the "Show on Form" settting for these parameters - Approvers, Expand Groups, Request, Due Date for all Tasks, Duration per Task, Duration Units, CC is set to "Both" (i.e. show these parameters during Initiation and Association). I did not want to display these parameters during Initiation, as we don't want end-users to change these settings. I want them to be displayed during Association only. We want Administrators only to be able to configure these parameters.

So I changed the "Show on Form" setting for the above parameters to "Association (attaching to a list)." I am able to save the workflow. And when I click on "Check for Errors" no errors are reported. But when I attempt to publish the workflow, I get the following error:

Errors were found when compiling the workflow. The workflow files were saved but cannot be run. And when I click on the "Advanced" button in the error message, I see this detailed error:

(0, 0) Activity 'ID4' validation failed: Property 'DurationUnit' has invalid

when i'm trying to publish workflow from sharepoint developer it's goes down with non expecting error.

I'm using not foundation Beta on W2k8  64bit with SQL server 2008 installed on the same VM.

SharePoint 2010 Long Starting if start workflow programatically

In SharePoint 2010, I'm starting workflow #2 programatically from my workflow #1. See code below:

					SPList currentList = web.Lists[new Guid(ListId)];
					SPListItem currentListItem = currentList.GetItemById(ListItem);

					//resolve any lookup parameters
					string workflowId = base.ProcessStringField(WorkflowIdentifier);

					//find workflow association by name
					SPWorkflowAssociation workflowAssoc = currentList.WorkflowAssociations.GetAssociationByName(workflowId, Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture);

					if (workflowAssoc != null)
						//start the workflow
						SPWorkflow workflow = site.WorkflowManager.StartWorkflow(currentListItem, workflowAssoc, workflowAssoc.AssociationData, SPWorkflowRunOptions.Synchronous);

And workflow #2  will hang with Starting status (1-10 minutes), Then the workflow #2 status would be modified  to Completed.

I couldn't find how to start the workflow # 2 immediately and complete immediately without several minutes delay

How to use display Text in Hyperlink For SharePoint 2010 Designer Workflow

In SharePoint 2007 Designer, I have used the Hyperlink column to store the link "http://www.sharepoint.com/Default.aspx, Details". The details text will be shown in the Hyperlink column. Everything works fine in sharepoint 2007 Designer workflow.

In SharePoint Designer 2010 Workflow, I used the same method but the hyperlink column is displaying the full text "http://www.sharepoint.com/Default.aspx, Details" instead of only Details
