My Profile Link Has Disappeared

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

My Sites were originally configured in their own application, but per my client's desire I created a new host site under the primary application under the path http://[sharepointdoman]/my/Profile/  (that is the My Site Host Location). I have configured Trusted Host Locations with the same. I have even customized the My Site home page. The links to the profile pages are available from any user name reference on the site (i.e. the links when users have authored content), the profiles are searchable, and once you are in the Site Collection for My Sites, the user's profile links work without a problem.

My issue is, I can't get the "My Profile" menu option to reappear in the Personal Action Menu on the top right. And the My Settings link now directs users to the User Information page under the primary site collection instead of the My Sites site collection (somehow in the course of trying to correct my issue with the My Profile pages, that link has now changed targets).

I am at a loss. Virtually every reference I have found in other blogs say that as long as I have "Use Personal Features" checked within the User Profile Service for the users, the link should appear. I have rerun my Profile synch, restarted the User Profile Service and IIS, and nothing seems to take effect.

Now, I do not want to enable users to create My Sites -

User Profile Synchronization Connection disappeared

So I had finally got User Profile Synchronization working by going down the path of using the Domain Admin Active Directory account for everything (SQL service account, SharePoint Farm account, Setup account) and the User Profiles worked based on the walk through I created on SharePointAdminWiki.com.  But now, the User Profile Synchronization Connection has disappeared from the list...and if I click Create to try and recreate it I get this error: "Cannot navigate to the requested page while User Profile Synchronization is running. Please wait for the current Synchronization run to finish." There are no jobs running, and I've left it for a while and still no joy. I even tried restarting the server and still nothing! I've tried this with a Windows Server 2008 SP1 build server AND a Windows Server 2008 R2 server. I have read @jiel's and David Pae's advice on this. CAC authenticates, but doesn't link to profile

We are migrating a WSS 3.0 site (remotely hosted) to MOSS 2007 (locally hosted).  The site must be CAC enabled (we are hosting a government site), and allow anonymous access to the top level sites, but your CAC must be tied to an AD account to see most of the portal. On our production server, we have a web app on port 80, and SSL enabled on Port 443. SSL is required, a certificate is assigned to the web app, client certificates are required, client certificate mapping is enabled. The web site is accessible by IP (https : //{IP address}), but we are waiting on DNS (https : // our_site.mil is not available yet).  The certificate is mapped to our DNS name.  When you hit the site, you get the "There is a problem with this website's security certificate" error, because DNS is not set up.  You proceed to the site, get prompted for a certificate, and the site is displayed. Now, once you are on the site, you see "Sign In" instead of a welcome message, even though the CAC certificate I used is associated with an AD account.  I _SHOULD_ see "Welcome, Chris Douglas", but I don't.  So, what are we doing wrong?    Christopher W. Changed DNS, IIS mappings and AAM for mysite - "My News feed, profile, content" okay but MySite link s

Sharepoint 2010 enterprise, I created a DNS entry and AAM for MySite - qnetmysite.company.local and all worked okay, then the customer wanted to change the URL used to access my site to "myqnet" so we deleted the DNS entry and recreated a new one. I changed the bindings in IIS and AAM to point to "myqnet.company.local". I can enter http://myqnet.company.local" and navigate to My News feed, My Profile, My content but when I try to navigate to MYSite the URL it takes me to is the old URL qnetmysite.company.local and internet explorer of course can't find the site. I have done an IIS reset, flushed the DNS on the local PC, when I mouse over the MySite link I can see the wrong URL.

Please can somebody help me?

Code Optimized Web Development Profile (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

When you first run VS 2010 it prompts you to select an IDE profile to use. The profile you select will configure how tool windows are displayed/docked in the IDE by default and set the default keyboard shortcuts. You can then customize any of these settings by using the Tools->Options menu within the IDE and then override/change them. You can also later reset your profile and pick a different one by choosing the Tools->Import and Export Settings menu command.

Configuring Profile Image Export in SharePoint 2010

It's no secret that I am thrilled with the new social features of SharePoint 2010. I am most excited about the new Profile Picture handling. I strongly believe that the more we can show the faces of our colleagues to one another the more connected we will feel. Clearly Microsoft feels that way as witnessed by the many features that make use of the Profile Image like the Activity Feed and Colleagues list

Profile not being save after redirect.

I am trying to save values into a Profile on Page1, then redirect to Page2 and access those values.  However, after the page redirects the profile values are blank as if they were never saved.   When stepping through the code I can see that they are being save on Page 1.

I suppose I could use session variables to store the information but I don't understand why saving the profile doesn't work.

I am trying to make URLs for users profile pages like Facebooks e.g. http://site.com/username. I had a code snippett from a book for how to do this but when it runs it says its processing a request that will never finish. Im new with HttpModules/handlers but Ive looked over like 100 pages trying to figure this out. My code is below. Any help figuring this out would be greatly appreciated..

The article Profile Provider in Asp.Net MVC was added by krokonoster on Wednesday, June 02, 2010.

Finding very little information on how to implement Profiles in Asp.Net MVC, I thought I'd share my solution to implement this. For demonstration purposes, let's assume you want to store a user's First and Last Name only. Firstly I created
