Can WebDAV Explorer view be enabled for a MOSS 2007 Site on Port 443 (SSL)?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Issue:  When accessing the Explorer view in SharePoint 2007 libraries, the FPRPC protocol (instead of WebDAV) is used.  Users want to perform certain functions in Explorer View (like send-to compressed folder) that are not available or do not work in their FPRPC view.

Background:  The site is on port 443 (SSL), users accessing the site have Windows XP and IE 8.

I understand from the white paper http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=c523ac7a-5724-48be-b973-641e805588f4 that if a site is hosted on a port other than 80, the Explorer View will be forced to use FPRPC.  The white paper also states "there is no workaround for this behavior".

However, when I access the site using Windows 7 Enterprise and IE 8, the WebDAV protocol is used and all of the functions work.

  • Is there a workaround that can force Windows XP to use WebDAV on an SSL site?
  • Or is Windows 7 Enterprise required to force WebDAV?

I have searched the fo

How to create a single entry page for site collections in MOSS 2007

I have  7 site collections containing a few hundred team collaboration sites. Some users are internal (intranet) but most are external (extranet). Extranet users are experiencing problems with losing links to their sites and forgetting which URLs to use. So I would like to create a single entry page that all users can enter after the logon process, which shows a list of sites they have permission to access, and other user-specific information. Perhaps relevant documents, tasks, recently modified documents etc.

I know this sounds like a 'My Site' but we want to use use a general welcome page instead. We use Windows authentication.
What is the best way of doing this and is it something that can be done in SharePoing Designer or does it need to be done in Visual Studio?

Many thanks in advance.

Applying custom CSS to the MOSS 2007 Calendar control Month view

I have a requirement to use the MOSS 2007 Calendar Control - month view is to apply a custom css to have a look and feel as per our requirements.

We tried applying the custom css to the MOSS 2007 calendar control - month view, it does take the custom css and applies it, but when i click on any date and come back to the calendar control, it changes the CSS of the MOSS calendar control back to the default one.

Let me know if anyone has any suggestion on  how to customize the calendar control for css for our intranet application.

Your response would be highly appreciated.

Custom Site Column in MOSS 2007

Hello, We have a request to add List in a List, for example, one of the column in the list should contain a table...so, created a custom column "Column with HTML Table" from the list of publishing fields...but, somehow, I dont seem to find that site column any more... That column type is "Publishing HTML", and it allows to define HTML table. I am unable to add a screenshot here...so, any clues? Also, can we copy the custom site column as a template and move it to another Site Collection? Regards, Kishore.  Kishore

Can't view the SharePoint Site. Explorer won't take domain account

Hi, I'm having issues viewing the SharePoint 2010 Site that I have deployed from any workstation. It seems that my permissions settings have broken - even though I haven't touched them. Whenever http://start/ is visited (the Intranet top site) it asks for credentials. They should have been taken from the User that was logged onto the machine. E.g. NATWIDE\UserA. After entering the credentials, it doesn't accept them, and asks for them again. And again. And then blank page. I'm not receiving the SharePoint "restricted access" page... HOWEVER, when I log into the website via Mozilla Firefox - it appears that the credentials are fine, and it works according to the permissions set for the site from within SharePoint. Does anyone have any idea why this would be happening. I'm completely stumped and I can't find a similar issue anywhere else. I have installed a Stand-alone installation of SharePoint 2010 Server Enterprise on Server 2008. The account that installed the SharePoint server and is a FARM Administrator, can't even log in to view the page. Cheers, Stu. Best Way to Convert MOSS 2007 Site Templates to SharePoint 2010 Templates

Ok, I just treid to do something that I didn't really think would work, but now that I've seen it fail, I get to ask the question. Is there a best practice on converting site templates built for MOSS 2007 to SharePoint 2010. We have several projects that used the Visual Studio Extensions (v1.3) and the SharePoint Solution Generator to build custom site templates and the .wsp packages. I can add and deploy the solution packages using the STSADM tool, but when I try to create a sub-site based on that template, I get an Object Not Set to an Oject Reference Error. In case anyone is wondering, it works fine in MOSS 2007. I have not tried Visual Studio 2010 yet (it's downloading in the background). I'm just wondering if anyone has run into this and what they did to fix it. TIA, John.

Creating a mobile version of a MOSS 2007 site?

Hi, We've created a MOSS 2007 WCM public site for one of our clients.  Now, they want a mobile version of the site where they can custom what shows up on mobile devices; the content will be different (no images, Flash; some text may be changed; some web parts may not show, etc.)  What's the best approach?  I know about using "/m" to redirect to mbllists.aspx and I've read about how it uses rendering templates, but I can't find anything about controlling what content actually gets displayed.  Oh, and we have both English and Spanish versions of our site (.../en-US/pages/... and .../es-MX/pages/...) Thanks for any suggestions.  - Ed.

SharePoint 2007 - Windows 7 - Explorer View (Leaves a copy in recycle bin)

Hi All, I am facing a strange problem with SharePoint 2007 & Windows 7. I open an existing word document from my PC(Windows 7) and click "save as" and provide a SharePoint document library file path (\\machinename\sitename\DocumentLibraryName) and save the file. The word file becomes visible in the Shared document library, BUT it leaves a copy in the recycle bin of the SharePoint site. Works Normal from Windows XP PC. Any clues. Would greatly appreciate anybody's effort. Regards KCM

Accessing a MOSS 2007 Site on Mobile devices

1) I am aware that simply adding a "/m" to the site URL gives me the mobile URL but it opens the _layouts/mobile/mbllists.aspx page instead of showing the site default.aspx page. I want the site to be accessible on mobile devices in the same way as through internet browsers. What is it that I need to do?

2) Can someone also tell me how does MOSS handle mobile requests i.e the underlying architecture?
