Can't find AD security group while creating Audience rule

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 26, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi guys,

I'm trying to create audience rule : all members of AD group. But when I try to choose a security group I need I can't find in search window. Though I see another groups. So in a whole the problem is I can't see all the AD groups but only some of them. It doesn't depends on on its type (global or local domain).

What could be a reason?

How to add AD Security group to Audience of Web Part?

We have RSS Viewer webpart in the SharePoint Server 2010 Enterprise based portal.

I would like set audience, which includes AD security group "Management".
How to do it?

So far I have been able to use SharePoint group in auding, but
Modify->Advance->Target Audience->Browser->Distibution/Security Group did not find any AD groups.

What does the Distibution/Security Group actually mean? How to add groups there?

Are You in the Know?: Find Out What's New with Code Access Security in the .NET Framework 2.0

Unlike role-based security measures, code access security is not based on user identity. Instead, it is based on the identity of the code that is running, including information such as where the code came from. Here Mike Downen discusses the role of code access security (CAS) in .NET and outlines some key new features and changes in CAS for the .NET Framework 2.0.

Need help with web.config security - Can't figure out where the security group is located in the ap

Hi,

   We have sepeartate folder called Managers in one of our web apps. And there was a security build around that folder in a web config file as below

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<configuration>
    <appSettings/>
    <connectionStrings/>
    <system.web>
      <authorization>
        <allow roles="AllManagers"/>
        <deny users="*"/>
      </authorization>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

I couldn't figure out where this group located in the application. Usually all our groups are defined in Active directory but except this group. I am not sure if this is defined on the web server or some where in the app itself. Because in the process of figuring out I have changed it to <allow users="*"/> just to make sure if this is the group we are looking for and YES It is and I have access to it. So I need to find out where this is located and add myself as one of the users to this group.

Can any one help me with this mystery.

Thanks in advance,

L

In Sharepoint 2007 while creating a group "Give Group Permission to this Site" section is missing

I have a strange anamoly in Sharepoint 2007 but I am guessing I am missing some minor step since I am new to Sharepoint. I am trying to create a new group which I have done before successfully. 1.On the home page of the site,  I click Site Actions, point to Site Settings, and then click People and Groups. 2.On the New menu, I click New Group. 3.Type a name for the group, and then type a brief description of the group's attributes in About Me. 4.I change the owner of the group or click Browse to find an individual's account name. 5.In the Group Settings section, I click the options to specify who can see the members of this group and who can add or remove members. 6.In the Membership Requests section, I click the options (No, No) and no email address entered Here is the problem part: I am supposed to see  the "Give Group Permission to this Site section"  but I see only Create and Cancel buttons.   Can you please help why I do not see  "Give Group Permission to this Site section". Is there another way to assign group permission?

Creating service application w/ Requirement for MySite security profile to be maintained

Good Day; In Sharepoint 2010 Microsoft has given the developer the ability to create a service application that can have its own database and scale independantly from the rest of the Sharepoint farm.   I wish to create a Service Application that will store data much like a list, but I need to have the ability to use the same security trimming that the profiles offer via MySites.  We need to have the granularity at a user level that we can get in MySites but I do not wish to store this data in the Mysite collections.  Can the security granularity found in Mysites and Profiles be extended into a Service Application?  Any examples of others doing this or case studies around security that I can be pointed to would be most helpful. Cheers C

Creating Dynamic Group Fields for a Crystal Report?

I have a VB.Net application which generates quite a few Crystal Reports. One report in particular has a Group Section. What I am trying to do with my VB.Net app is pass a value (a sql server column name used in the report). This value is represented by radio buttons. For example, the user may check either "ZipCode" or "State" or "Category" or "Type" or "Vendor". Each of these options represent a column in the database table used in the report. I simply want to be able to write the "SelectionFormula" using one of these options but not sure how to go about it. Thanks, Blake

Is there a way to obtain where in a sharepoint site a certain security group is used?

There is a sharepoint group that has been set up and is used throughout a single sharepoint occurance with many team sites and lists. It has orginated from AD and sent over to sharepoint with collection. The want to rename the group name. I have used it throughout the site. Is there a way to identify what sites and lists have been secured with this site so I do not have to go manually through site by site? Thanks, Angela

Create SharePoint Security Group populated by AD query

Is there any non-code way to create a SharePoint Security Group that is populated by an AD query? The "standard" way of getting the same "effect" is to create a group that contains an AD group but that does not allow members of a particular site to see who else is also a member of the site Any thoughts?

New Item Added to List/Library trigers Alert to non-AD Security Group

I am trying to implement an alert when a new item is added to a list. Idealy this alert would be sent to either a SharePoint Group or a AD Distribution Group. I do not have access/authroization to create security groups. The research I have found so far tells me that I can only add AD users and AD mail-enabled security groups through the alert GUI. My questions is first is this a valid finding? Second, if I create a custom workflow can I have the workflow triger on new item added and have it send a notification to the specified SharePoint/Distribution group? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Programatically determine windows security group name SQLServer2005MSSQLUser

When SQL Server 2005 is installed it creates a local group following this convention   SQLServer2005MSSQLUser$<computername>$<instancename>   When the machine is renamed the group name does not change.   Is there a way to programatically (.NET 2.0 or SQL query) determine the group name?May we all make money in the sequel.

Creating an audience in a SPListItemReceiver

Hi, I want to create an audience in a ItemUpdated event of the SPListItemReceiver class. When i use the code beneath i'm getting an Access Denied error. Strangly when I'm using the exact same code for a console application it works perfectly. So my question would be "Is there some difference between the context of an console app and a SPListEventReceiver." Thats the only explantion I can think of at the moment.   The code I use: SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges(delegate { AudienceManager audienceManager = new AudienceManager(SPServiceContext.GetContext(new SPSite(Properties.SiteId))); AudienceCollection audienceCollection = audienceManager.Audiences; Audience audience = audienceCollection.Create(audienceName, audienceDescription); }); The error I get. System.UnauthorizedAccessException was unhandled by user code Message=Access Denied Source=Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles StackTrace: at Microsoft.Office.Server.Audience.AudienceGlobal.CanAccess(UserProfileApplicationProxy userProfileApplicationProxy) at Microsoft.Office.Server.Audience.AudienceCollection.Create(String AudienceNameOrg, String AudienceDescriptionOrg, String OwnerAccountNameOrg, AudienceGroupOperation GroupOperation) at Microsoft.Office.Server.Audience.AudienceCollection.Create(String AudienceName, String AdienceDescrip

Security processor was unable to find a security header in the message

Hi,

Recently on one of my machines, my client (WCF client) is having problem talking to WCF server. Both server and client are running on the same machine. The machine is Windows7 64 bit machine. It used to work fine until recently. The same software is working fine on all other machines with exactly same configuration. I am really confused here. Could someone please let me know what could be the problem?

SPView query to find if the current user belongs to a Group

HI All,

I´m trying to write a query for a list view that should return all items if the current user belong to a group. If the user doesn´t belongs to this group, no items should be returned.

So far, I could find many equal examples about using the CAML Membership element in a comparison with an AssignetTo field. But not making a comparison between the current user and a specific Sharepoint Group.

Any suggestions, please?

Thanks
