Large Dataset Downloaded Before Rendering Report's First Page

I'm hoping to understand the behavior of SSRS a bit better in the following scenario (SSRS 2008).  A single matrix (tablix) exists on the report.  No other objects are on the report.  That matrix is populated with 1.1 million rows of data totaling about 200MB.  Why does SSRS download the entire dataset prior to rendering the report's first page or am I missing something here?

When previewing the report, the local .data file bloats to 200MB indicating all dataset rows are being returned.  The matrix does not contain any sorting, all cell "can grow" and "can shrink" properties are set to false, no expressions are used anywhere, and even the table's column data types from which the data is being pulled are appropriate.  In other words, I believe I've reduced storage and CPU needs while eliminating elements that add overhead when rendering a report.

The specific scenario here is a researcher previewing the first few pages of data then choosing to download the entire dataset.  MS documentation I've read refers to "soft page breaks" when rendering as HTML and left me with the impression that perhaps SSRS needs to know the entire height of the dataset before it'll slice the report into pages.  It's odd to me though that it needs to download 1.1 millions rows of data befor

ASP Page Rendering Isssue

We have an ASP web application that was running fine in IIS 5.0 .

We migrated the windows box to Windows 2003 and hence the IIS was upgraded to IIS 6.

When we run the application in the above new box, we are facing a critical issue where the page is not rendered correctly in the browser.

We have around 6000 records in the Access Database, The ASP page fetches the records from the database and should display it.

We display the 6000 records using HTML <table>  tags and we use font,color attributes just to make the page pretty. The issue is we filter the search criteria to display 2000 records then the page looks good.

When we try to display all the 6000 records, thats when the issue starts and the <table> and page allignment is messed up and not all the 6000 records are display in the browser, only aroun 200 or so records get displayed in the page and that too the table layouts are gone and messed up.

If we remove all the <table> font color attributes and just print the records to see if all the data is comming, then yes, i can see all the 6000 records printed when i just print them in the browser. Its only when i combine the formatting/style/cont/color ....then for some reason its not able to display the page correctly.

Instead of using <table> i switched to use the layout using &l

IE 7 rendering issue in Sharepoint 2010 Master Page

Show Tag Properties in SPD 2007 is rendering page in html

In Designer 2007 I am trying to see the properties of my ListFormWebPart. When I try to see the tag properties, the tag properties popup comes up, but instead of showing my all the properties configurations, the .aspx page renders in the popup!

I am really hating SharePoint and Designer.  It's the buggiest thing I've ever seen.

There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what your are trying to accomplish.

Page not rendering correctly in IE or Opera but works as expected in FF, Safari, Chrome

I have a page that implements a 3rd party's calendar coded in asp script.  The pages are designed to be centered in the browser window, however, the page that implements the calendar application is aligned left and it appears to ignore the div that contains my footer. This phenomenon happens only in IE. Opera, FF, Safari and Chrome render the content in the middle of the browser window.

In Opera, all of the pages are rendered centered, however, a space is appearing between the footer and content divs. Moreover, the page that renders the calendar seems to ignore the footer div like IE does.

The way the calendar is rendered is via the %%CONTENT%% token in the table that exists in the "textContent" div.

To see the issue live: http://www.batiksgalore.com/calendar.asp

The code for the calendar page is below:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
  <meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="en-us" />
  <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252" />

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

Using jQuery to directly call ASP.NET AJAX page methods

Here I am looking to explain how to call page methods using jQuery. Using jQuery to directly call ASP.NET AJAX page methods

Reduce ASP.NET Page size and complexity using JQuery

This is my first post on asp.net blog. ASP.NET Ajax and JQuery are two different ajax framework. In this post I will show, how we can enhance gridview using ASP.NET Ajax and JQuery. I also compare the implementation of these frameworks. In next posts i will explain more about JQuery and ASP.NET Ajax and also tell you "How to combine the power of both framework". My Future post will related to ASP.NET and related frameworks.

Rendering ASP.NET Script References into the Html Header

One thing that I've come to appreciate in control development in ASP.NET that use JavaScript is the ability to have more control over script and script include placement than ASP.NET provides natively. Specifically in ASP.NET you can use either the ClientScriptManager or ScriptManager to embed scripts and script references into pages via code.

I have 2 web pages. First page has a textbox and a button control.

when I enter test and click on the button , system goes to the second page. And in the second page I want to access the Textbox in the first page. When I try to do this I get the following error.

"Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Following is my code :

Dim txt As New TextBox

' Find the server name on the previous page
txt = CType(Page.PreviousPage.FindControl("TextBox2"), TextBox)
If Not IsNothing(txt) Then
Response.Write("[Name Not available]")
End If

I know I could do this with session, but I want to use the Page.PreviousPage.FindControl. Any help is greatly appreciated

Unique content within master page based on conditions met

 Hi all-

I would like to present users with unique content based on certain conditions being met as they land on the home page (default.aspx).  The condition logic will be in the VB code behind Page Load event. The content will go in a content placeholder as specificed from the master page.

However, the content change wouldn't be something small (ie making a panel or label visible or not) but rather it will be different HTML,  Divs and databound gridview content.  The HTML content will be stored in the database.

Can someone point me in the right direction for best practices on how to accomplish this?

Launch CMD File From ASPX Page

My organization uses a CMD file to install updated files for a major enterprise application. Currently, we send out an email to users with a link to the file and instructions to run it, BUT inevitably users don't update their machines until their in field and try to start the app.

We're now liking the idea of using an ASPX page to prompt the users to run the updates and to capture the fact that the updates have been run. I realize that we can't capture the success or failure of the update. But we'd like to capture the user accessed the page.

Is it possible to embed into the markup for the page a link to the file on the local intranet that the users can click on to run the file?

The user accessing the page would capture that they did just that. We'd deal with wether or not the update was actually installed or if it failed later with them directly.

Setting the default start page in godaddy hosting?

 How do you set the start page with godaddy hosting? I can see no way of doing this! You do not seem to have access to the IIS settings that allow you to change it!

Need help redirecting users to personalized page

 Hi, first timer here so be gentle.

I've been able to create a cool little website, it's up and running with users logging in and out, I created roles so my administrative team can see sensitive data that's not available to regular and anonymous users.

Now they would like me to create a page specific to each user.  For instance when user A logs in they are redirected to a page that has information that pertains to user A only (like a list of their benefits/ their remaining vacation time). This page needs to be accessible only to user A.

I've watched a ton of the videos but have yet to see one that covers this topic, any help would be great!!!

Building Re-Usable ASP.NET User Control and Page Libraries with VS 2008

I am having problems with a user control. I want my solution to have a separate project for holding my user controls.

The main project can get a reference to this user control project and can import this user control dll into my main project.

Thanks in advance,

Retrieving a variable from a previous page

I'm looking to have a search page where a user will select an item from a listview, then then taken to another page that wil display data based on their original selection.

A user will type in a string and be presented with a list of usernames that are like that string, when they select a user name who's profile they would like to view I would like the page that they're taken to, to be that users profile.

How would I transfer the variable from the search page to the profile page, and when I work on the profile page, how can I access that variable?
