How can I sync up the aspnet membership tables among 2 different databases?
View Complete Post
We're trying to migrate a one of our apps to our dev server for testing and development, but we're having problems with the membership functionality. We can add users, but there seems to be a disconnect with roles. We can query the aspnet_users table and find the new user in there, but when we query the aspnet_usersinroles table, that user id is not present.
We're also unable to run the Roles.GetUsersInRole("somerole") method. It returns 0 records. When I run Roles.ApplicationName, it returns the correct name, so .NET should be passing the correct app name.
We're just a little baffled. If anyone could shed some light on what could be the issue, we would appreciate it.
Any reason not to add fields to these tables, or is this just as easy as creating tables to join to aspnet_roles and the like?
I have an existing ASPNET role/membership database created on SQLExpress 2005 (WIndows 2003 Server). I created it under the .NET 3 framework many years ago using the aspnet_regsql.exe application in full GUI mode.
I am setting up a new Windows 2008R2 server with .Net Framework 4 and SQL Server 2008R2. I don't want users to have to recreate accounts or create roles, etc.
1. Should I backup the current database and import it into the new system, and if so do I even need to use the aspnet_regsql.exe application. (If so which version do I use, different aspnet_regsql.exe files exist in different directories (i.e., FrameWork, FrameWork64)
2. Should I just run aspnet_regsql.exe on its own and then somehow try to import the current data into those tables.
I am concerned that if I just import somehow the roles within SQL server will not be created properly.
thanks in advance,
I have a web app that uses the Membership Provider to authenticate users.
Everything worked fine until today... when I tryed to log in it failed.
I looked in the database if something went wrong there and the user is deleted but everything looks fine there.
I tryed to recover the password using the user name and i got an error that the user is not recognized.
I tyed to recover the password (even though I am sure what the password is) but still no luck... (I get an error that hased passwords can not be decrypted)
I triyed it in local host and guess what ... still the same...
this is the provider section in my web config
I'm trying to include a method in my application (for a delete button) that completely deletes a user from all relevant tables in the entire aspnet membership system in SQL. Is there syntax I can use to combine the following Delete statements
-- or do I have to include each of these individually on my code behind page, as per below? Thank you.
DELETE FROM aspnet_Profile WHERE UserID = @UserID
DELETE FROM aspnet_UsersInRoles WHERE UserID = @UserID
DELETE FROM aspnet_PersonalizationPerUser WHERE UserID = @UserID
DELETE FROM aspnet_Membership WHERE UserID = @UserID
DELETE FROM aspnet_Users WHERE UserID = @UserID
I have noticed that asp.net Membership tables take space and without I use many of its features. Now if I want to create my tables from scratch will that break to security of my application?
The following code is used to add the asp membership tables to an
already existing database instead of creating a seperate database for
membership and having two databases in the application.
aspnet_regsql.exe -S .SQLEXPRESS -U username -P password -d
databsename -A all
It works fine by adding the membership tables to the existing database
that is located in the c drive, program files sqlserver folder.
But my database however is not in the c drive but located in my asp
website app_data folder, so the above code does not give any error and
the tables are not added after I run it.
Please how can I now add the membership tables using the above code when
my database is located in the website app_data folder, thanks
how i can add more colums in Singup Page with aspnetmembership?
like yahoo, gmail and most of site use(gender, address, phone and more...)
i hope i can some soultions here.
I used aspnet_regsql to add the aspnet membership files to my database, but my program is not finding them there. It is updating some other set somewhere elelse. When I click the hammer icon, I can see the members and roles, my program finds them as well, but they are not in my database. I need to get it attached to my SQL database so I can deploy to hosted site.
In my web.config I have:
If I just have ADProvider1 it works, when I add ADProvider2, even though for testing I only use ADProvider1 I get an error: "Unable to establish secure connection with the server"
Am I adding the second provider to the membership section incorrectly?
I tried to use Microsoft's Membership option for signing up new users and authenticating them on subsequent pages, but it has not worked very well. The biggest issue has been with the REMEMBER ME function. With this checked, I am randomly logged out in the middle of some functions and some pages always show me as not authenti
I am trying to figure a way to SSO with ASP.NET membership and role model.
I can implement custom membership provider which consume web services hosting on a server.
With encryption of data. No problem.
But my question is, If I sign on a website with my provider, got my identity object on that application,
could I pass it to another website on another domain which use the same provider and by doing so, do not need to login again?
If this is possible, I am going to implement this solution. Please tell me what's your take on this.
