Need to create a update procedure

I have to update 2 records in a table, sounds simple, but i need to do this after the first record is updated, then using the data from that record, look up the other record thats in the table to update it with bits of the first records data. What it boils down to is that we inherited a database, that wasnt designed all that great..so we are looking to update the 2nd record based on data within the 1st record. How can i build a one time update, to run against the entire table, and it needs to determine what the other similar record is then update that one with the 1st data.Here is a sample of what the table data looks like:t_id s_id due_date date_completed 331724 82043 7/21/2009 NULL 349084 82043 10/21/2009 7/21/2010 378073 82043 1/21/2010 7/2/2010 394205 82043 4/21/2010 7/14/2010 413299 82043 7/21/2010 7/23/2010 432701 82043 10/21/2010 7/23/2010 341201 87188 7/21/2009 9/4/2009 349123 87188 10/21/2009 12/7/2009 380062 87188 1/21/2010 7/22/2010 394382 87188 4/21/2010 3/11/2010 413354 87188 7/21/2010 6/11/2010 432710 87188 10/21/2010 7/23/2010 So what i need to do is in the above example is update t_id 331724 with the date_completed from 341201. But since there is nothing to link them together in this table, how can the update be written so that t

SqlDataSource, FormView, and Update with stored procedure in code behind

Hello, Using a FormView with a SqlDataSource, I'm attempting to Update data by calling a stored proc in code behind. I was having trouble getting parameters using Update Parameters in the SqlDataSource, but found a working solution by coding the parameters. The problem now is I'm getting an "Updating is not supported by data source 'XYZ' unless UpdateCommand is specified'. I saw some previous posts on the forums, but didn't find them very enlightening.

stored procedure: select and update

Is it possible to use a stored procedure to get a value of the database, change it and save it back at ones? Let me show a simple example: In the databse I have an integer value (20). Then I get another number (5), and I would like to subtract it of the  value from database (20 - 5). That means I have to get the value 20 out of the database, of it subtract value 5, and insert (update) new value (15) back to the database. Or is it not even necessary to get the value 20 out of the databse, but only directly subtract value 5 of the value in the database? Is this possible to do with stored procedure?

Deadlock: Store Procedure that only contains select statement owns an update key lock

I have a seemingly simple deadlock graph that contains 2 SP's. One SP is updating a table, while another SP (the victim) is selecting from it. The interesting thing about the graph is that the SP that contains the select (and only a select) is shown to own an UPDATE lock on the table that SP2 wants to update. How is this possible?

Partial update with stored procedure in Entity Framework 4

How do I use a stored procedure to change one or more (but not all) fields of a entity in EF4? I have a stored procedure "ChangePassword" taking a username and and a password as parameters and a User entity containing properties for Username and Password as well as other properties. I want to be able to use this stored procedure from a function to update the password from a function in one of my repositories. How to do this?

help with update stored procedure

I have this stored procedure here:

UPDATE deals_CreditCards SET
	[IsDefault] = -1
	WHERE [UserID] = @UserID and [CardID]= ????

So the table contains multile records per UserID. The CardID is the primarykey. I want to make the very first record for that userID the default by seting its 'IsDefault' fields to true. The very first record for that userID would mean the lowst 'CardID' value.

Of all the many records matching a certain 'UserID', how do I set the 'IsDefault' field to true on the one record with the smalest 'CardID' value?

stored procedure is not getting invoked on update command of grid view

Hello everybody!

In my project I am using a grid view to display data from multiple tables and I want to update that data on clicking edit button.

For selecting data I am using custom select statement, but for updating I have created a stored procedure which should update two different tables.

But when I click on update , it's not executing the stored procedure.

here is the code snippet of sqldatasource:-

<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server"  UpdateCommand="editEmployeeInfo" UpdateCommandType="StoredProcedure">

                    <asp:Parameter Name="empId" Type="Int32" />

                    <asp:Parameter Name="name" Type="String" />

                    <asp:Parameter Name="address1" Type="String" />

                    <asp:Parameter Name="address2" Type="String" />

                    <asp:Parameter Name="telNo" Type="String" />

ASP.Net Gridview Edit Update Cancel Commands

In ASP.Net 2.0, GridView Control also provides the functionality to edit and update the data retrieved from the database using CommandField template. You can cancel the action using Cancel Command of the CommandField. GridView consists of events that can be used to perform the actions like edit, update and cancel upon the Data items displayed in the ASP.Net GridView Data Control.
