Cannot open data library in SPD2007

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 26, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Help: For some reason, I'm unable to one of my data source library - sharepoint list i SPD.

I can see the sharepoint list but when I select the list "show data" I get an error on the "Data Source Details" tab.

"The server returned a non-specific error when trying to get data from the data source. Check the format and content of your query and try again. If the problem persists, contact the server administrator."

When I open the list directly in IE it sees to work just fine, I see not problems there. When I open a customized view form (aspx) it fails.

If I try to create an new apsx and insert data source control for the sharepoint list, then I can see the fields in the list when I open properties on the data source.

If I insert a sharepoint control "custom list form" then I can see "preview" data from the list.

Does anyone have a clue why not I or anybody else can't open that list/form and data library?

Using SPD2007 and WSS 3.0, the SQL server is sqlexpress 2005 and is installed on the SP server

Data Source Library won't open / grayed out

I saw a similar question but the answers didn't solve my problem so here it goes.  I have a site, and many subsites underneath.  For all of them it says I'm owner/full control.  They even gave me control of the site above mine so I could have permission to do a lot of things on my sites.  Ok well every site works the same.  I open them in SharePoint Designer and can insert data view and see the data sources under the "current site".

However, this one site i have says "current site" in the data source library tab, but it is grayed out and I can't expand it.  My IT contact has no idea what's wrong since I have full permission to all these sites.  I can add webparts through sharepoint designer to this site, I just can't add data views (and I really need data views for what I'm doing).

This is a site that's been around for a bit but this is the first time I started using it to insert data views.  Unfortunately it's a live site so I can't just delete/recreate as other things on the site are currently in use and going through workflows.

Any suggestions are appreciated!  Where can I look?  What should I check?

Thanks so much!

Data Truncation issue with Enterprise Library Logging WriteLog stored Proc

Hi ,

I'm using Enterprise Library Logging  feature for logging. The issue i am facing is when the Logging message is too large(more than 65534 chars) ,complete data  is not logged in the Formatted Mesage column which is  of data Type nText .

I am able insert complete data if i try inserting from Sql insert Query from sql management studio. Do i need to add any attributes to data base listener or do i need to change the sp.

Is there any way to increase the WriteLog stored proc param size in EnterpriseLibrary.Logging config file ? . Please let me know.

Thanks In Advance.

Data Points: The Enterprise Library Data Access Application Block, Part 3

E nterprise applications can have a wide variety of data update requirements. Sometimes you need to save multiple rows of changes at once within a single transaction. Other times, the user must be allowed to enter multiple rows of data, send them to the database in a batch; and if a row or two fails, only the rows that succeeded should be committed and remain committed.

A solid data access later (DAL) can benefit an application by hiding redundant tasks, helping handle exceptions more gracefully, helping clean up resources more efficiently, and providing a layer of abstraction from the database.

Unable to open pdf from document library MOSS 2007

When I click on a pdf document uploaded in a document library it comes up with a blank page.

I guess it's trying to open pdf on the browser. I turned off "Display PDF in browser " option in Adobe Preferences, but it doesn't help, same issue.

I tried other browsers too, it's the same issue.

I am able to open all other pdf files local to my machine fine.

I am using IE 8 on my machine (Windows 7) and the Sharepoint server is MOSS 2007.

Can I open the "new" menu in a SharePoint Document Library using Dragon NaturallySpeaking?

When a user, who uses Dragon NaturallySpeaking, says "new" when viewing a Document Library the default content type is selected and the associated application (e.g. Microsoft Word) is launched. This scenario is okay for Content Type selection since the Microsoft Office applications will prompt for the metadata once the file is saved.

If the user needs to create new folders in the Document Library however they need to expand the "new" dropdown menu.

What is the best way for someone using Dragon NaturallySpeaking to expand the "new" menu for a Document Library in SharePoint?

Check-out issue when opening a document from a document library when a read-only copy is open

We have an issue when a user has a read-only copy of a document from SharePoint open and then tries to check-out and edit another copy of the document (i.e. from the document library) the checked out copy is not connected to the web server. For the user it will look the same they will make edits, save and then close, but when they do so the document is not updated in SharePoint - it may be saved locally in their SP drafts, but the user will think that they have lost their version. We then get the checked out to another user error and you have to discard changes to get the document working again. Steps to reproduce this issue: * click on the name of a office doc on a Document Library * Make sure "Read Only" is selected and click "ok" * Minimize open document * click on the same file on the Document Library * Make sure "check out and edit" is selected and the "Use my local drafts folder" checkbox is ticked. Select OK. * Edit document and press save. Changes are never saved back in SharePoint, they are only on the local draft. We are using MOSS with SP2. Clients are on Office 2003 and 2007 Is this normal behaviour? Is there anything that can be done to prevent this from happening?

Library - Fill Columns with data from email

I have an inbound email enabled Library.  The Library has several columns created for it.  I would like to be able to send an email into the Library and have these columns filled from information in the email.  Is this possible using WSS 3.0?  What are the basic steps?  If I understand SharePoint well enough, I'm guessing is that I have to include the columns as Metadata in the body of the email and then assign this Metadata to the appropriate Library columns when new email is uploaded to the Library.

Prompt "The proper type library could not be found in the system registry" when open SQL2008 Express

Hi folks, I just format my notebook and installed the Win7Pro Eng 32-bit version and then install the SQL2008Express. I restarted my notebook as usual after the installation and open the SQL SMS, it prompt the following error "The proper type library could not be found in the system registry", It's a big dialog with certain text saying I do not have permission...etc. Since, I am using administrator account to open the program already but still fail. I have to repaire the SQL SMS too. May I know any other I can check? Any comment is highly appreciated. Thank you very much! Regards, Tony
