HELP! Upgraded web db to 2008r2 Web. DTS job on master server now broken

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi. I had 2 SQL Server 2000 Standard servers. 1 was a master server, the second was the web server. there was a DTS job on the master server that coppied specific tables from the master to the web server.

We recently upgraded the hardware and decided it would be a good time to try upgrading the SQL server... however we were jjust going to start with the Web server.

I have installed SQL Server 2008r2 Web edition on the web server, the master server still has Server 2000 standard.

The DTS job cannot connect.

I tried to create a SQL Server Agent job, and configuring a Multi-server configuration with a Master/Target role, but I keep getting errors. If I try to set it up on the master server, I get an "Access Denied" message from the target server (2008r2 web) If I try to configure from the target server, I get a "Login failed for user (null)" despite the fact that the connection used to the master server is done with SQL Auth using the dbo account.

So then I linked the web server to the master server in Server Objects. And I tried to build a "Insert into Webserver.db.dbo.table select from Masterserver.db.dbo.tablename" but that query just takes forever... I even put a limit on the select (TOP 100) and it still wouldn't run quickly

Windows 7 CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 26

Hi I have migrated to a new computer using Windows 7, 6 gig memory, I7 chip (old machine had xp) and have installed Visual Studio 2008 and  SQL Server 2008 R2.  I get CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 262) when I try to create a new database.  Other posts (example:http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/sqltools/thread/28fee0ed-c7e2-40df-8f79-f513c9848f09/) work for Vista but I cannot find how to grant permissions.  Run as administrator (vista fix) does not work. I have admin privaleges on my machine.  There are no other accounts.    What do I need to do to update privaleges? Thanks and have a nice day.

SharePoint 2010 Server: Cannot manage all user profiles from upgraded MOSS SSP database

I have upgraded an SSP database to SharePoint 2010 and successfully performed User Profile Synchronization with Active Directory, however I cannot manage ALL of the user profiles in the database. I go to "Manage User Profiles" in Central Administration and perform a filtered search (i.e. I want all DOMAIN accounts beginning with "j" so I search for "DOMAIN\j" in Manage User Profiles), but I don't receive ALL the user profiles back. I receive about 8 in return when I know there are about 20 starting with "j". If I create a new AD account beginning with "j" it is successfully synched with SharePoint 2010 and I see it in the Manage User Profiles. I ran an stsadm -o sync to clear any old synchronization information, and the Forefront Synchronization Service appeared to pull in many changes to existing accounts (including ones I can't currently manage), but I still cannot manage them using "Manage User Profiles". I really need to be able to manage all the profiles so I can manually edit some fields. Can anyone please help? Thanks in advance.

best practice SQL Server 2008R2 setup on 3 drives

Hi, I have read best practice lists for setting up SQL Server, but I don't have enough available drives to meet the optimal setup. I have 3 drives and below is how I plan on using my 3 drives: C (30GB) - Windows 2008 OS and SQL Program Files E (120GB) - SQL Master/Model/TEMPDB/MDF Files F: (60GB) - SQL LOG Files   Should I configure the above different?

Upgraded to SQL Server 2008 Express R2 64bit and now all my VS2010 db apps won't run

I am running WIN764bit, VS2010 and just "upgraded" from SQL server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 Express R2 64 bit.  When I went back into VS2010 and tried to run and test several database apps that I have developed, I find that I keep getting the error "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instrance".  I have read a lot of threads here but I am not getting anywhere.  I can create a new SQL Server database, but can't find any of my existing .dbo connections and can't open any of the .mdf's from within Server Explorer (VS2010).  Any ideas? BTW the install went fine. And I have User Instance set to True in VS2010.

Problem Installing SQL 2005 Enterprise on Server 2008R2 Enterprise???

I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 Enterprise onto a new WinServer Enterprise 2008R2 box.  I am using my MSDN disk that contains the various flavors of SQL Server 2005.  When I select to install Enterprise (64 bit) version all that is available for installation are the client tools, no server tools.  When I install the Standard version, the server tools are available. Is there a problem installing SQL 2005 Enterprise on WinServer Enterprise 2008R2???

Cannot Connect to SQL server with SQL 2008R2 enterprise On windows server 2008R2

I have 2 identical brand new servers Running Windows Server 2008 R2 not on a domain but simple LAN. I Installed a default instance of SQL server 2008 R2 enterprise on each one with all the default settings. No Problems during the Installaion. I Added the Windows Administrators Group and Users group to the SQL admins role during the SQL Server Installation. Remote connections are enabled on each server. I restored the same database from a copy on each Installation. Configured the user accounts on each maching and made them sysadmins and granted permissions where they were needed. Now from server A when i try to establish a connection to Server B from SQl server Management Studio I get An error stating that the server was not found or accesible. keep in mind i can \\server B\c$ and vice versa, named pipes are enabled. I have never had this problem before in my life. And it's happening on both servers. I really need each installation of SQL to be able to see the other remote installation as i have to create a mirror. -Chris

Error Enrolling Instance In Utility Explorer SQL Server 2008R2

When I try enrolling an instance the enrollment errors with "The collection sets on the specified instance of SQL Server must be stopped." I have stopped all the collection sets in various manners including disabling the scheduled job, all with no success. Any suggestions as to what else I can check? I have successfully enrolled another instance on the same server. Thanks!

SQL server 2008R2 install on a server 2008 R2 failover cluster. Other resources won't failover to o

As the subject says, I've built a fresh install w2k8r2 and sql2k8r2 failover cluster. Sql works fine on the primary node, but when I test a failover it breaks. Specifically, if I were to stop the node1 cluster service (causing the cluster to switch to node2), windows changes the cluster DNS appropriatly and moves the shared storage just fine, but sql server doesn't failover.  Server Name, Disk Drives and Other Resources all go offline. I've verified that the advanced policies of the server name, IP, cluster drives all have both nodes checked as possible owners However, Other resources only lists node1 as a possible owner and there appears to be no way to add node2.  Under the Other resources, SQL Server and SQL Server Agent are listed. I'm sorta stumped, I've been combing the forums and have found similar issues, but nothing seems to explain why the two resources won't failover.

SQL Server broken - cannot reset 'logon as ' built-in account - urgent

SQL Server Express 2008, on a standalone XP Pro fully updated, with a named instance of COMPUTERNAME\SQLEXPRESS.

As installed, the 'log on as' was set to NT\NETWORK SERVICE. Basically things worked, though I had some issues, now irrelevant. Foolishly I went into SQL Server Configuration Manager, clicked on SQL Server Services, in the right pane right-clicked on Sql Server (SQLEXPRESS) - Properties, on the logon tab - Built-in account, which showed Network Service.

From the dropdown, I selected Local Service and probably Apply, then Start, though maybe vice versa.

This stopped pretty much everything working, e.g. no access via Managment Studio etc (cannot login). Now if I attempt to select Network Service from the dropdown to put it back to what it was:

- If I click Apply I get a message box : Cannot find object or property [0x80092004]

- If I click Start there is a long wait while the progress bar ticks over, then a message box with 'The request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion. Consult the event log or other applicable error logs for details'

In the logs folder the log starts with informational stuff that looks to me to be pretty

Install App that uses .NET Framework 4 and SQL Server 2008R2 Express (with Tools) - what .NET Framew

I am a little confused about how to install my application.  Written in C# using VS 2010 and targeted for the .NET 4 Framework.  It also uses a SQL Server 2008 R2 database.

In my installer I install .NET 4 Framework if not already present on the host machine.

For SQL Server 2008 R2 (with Tools) I understood I need Installer 4.5 and Powershell 1.0.  The install of install of 4.5 installer goes ok but requires a reboot.  The install of Powershell says it needs .NET Framework 2 SP2 - even tho' .NET 4 is installed.

I decide to ignore this and carry on so manually install SQL Server 2008 R2 Express (with Tools).  It unpacks and complains it needs .NET Framework 3.5 SP1!

My application has to deploy to a disconnected machine installed in the cab of a logging harvester so I can't rely on automatic wwindows updates.

To deploy my app with SQL Server 2008 R2 (with Tools) do I need ...

  • .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and
  • .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and
  • .NET Framework 4

I had presumed all I would would be .NET Framework 4 since it is "mostly" backwardly compatible.

Install time and complexity is HUGE is I need all three Frameworks.

Can someone please clarify for me?

SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack or Hotfix for ReportExecutionService2005 broken with IMAGE/EMF

Posted by edwardforgacs on 8/23/2010 at 4:13 AM
Vlad_MSFT, any update on the ExecutionInfo.NumPages workaround? It's well over a month since you posted to this thread and by the looks of it I'm not the only person who is unable to get any useful information out of that.

As Bob_eBlueprint mentioned, it always seems to return zero. Do you actually have a tested code sample where it works?
Posted by edwardforgacs on 7/20/2010 at 2:11 AM
Yes, ExecutionInfo does not return the number of pages properly either. I have tried every possible combination including GetExecutionInfo, GetExecutionInfo2, before and after render, and combined with Render, and Render2. Guess we need to open another bug about GetExecutionInfo not working in 2008 either?
Posted by Bob_eBlueprint on 7/9/2010 at 10:32 AM
I tried using the code posted by JasonRAC, but I am not getting an exception thrown when I try to render a page that doesn't exist. Instead a zero byte array is returned. So I'm using code like this to stop rendering when the end of the report is researched:

        Dim DidPageLoad As Boolean
        Dim TempPage As Byte()

Issue with SAN Drive Migration in master database in clustered SQL Server 2005 SP1

In our SQL Server 2005 SP1 cluster, I have to retire the existing SAN and move all my databases to new SAN drive. I have successfully moved all datafiles (user, system databases, resource) except master database.

Even when I change the parameters in start-up from configuration manager, I am getting error when starting up from cluster administrator / configuration manager.

But I am able to start the SQL Server successfully from command line (without any flags).

When I start the SQL Server from cluster administrator / configuration manager (after changing the parameters), I see that the start-up parameters are changing back to originalpath (old SAN) .

Please let me know incase you need any more information.

SQL SERVER 2008R2 concatenation of CAST causes timeout

In my company, somebody wrote stored procedure that works with MSDE and doesnt work with sql server 2008R2. With 2000 it takes few seconds and with 2008 there is a timeout after 600 seconds.

This is a part where I isolated the problem:

(SELECT TOP 1 MovementHeaderId

FROM MovementHeader )

FROM RetailTransactionLineItemExtended

FROM  Movement

MovementTypeCode ='SALE'

DocumentReferenceTypeCode ='TRANSACTIONLINE'

AND DocmentReferenceCode = cast(RetailTransactionLineItemExtended.TransactionOriginalTransactionID as varchar(20)) +'/'+    cast (Ordinal as varchar(20) ))

And IsPetrol=0
