Custom Edit form - close modal dialog and navigate to page

Hi, I created one custom edit form for my document library, replaced default save and cancel buttons with input buttons and added the form action to them. Then I set my page as default edit form. When I click edit button, my custom form opens in modal pop up. When I try to save the item by clicking new save button, item gets saved but pop remains as it is. Now, I want the modal pop up to get closed and navigate to page other than the parent page with some parameters after I click save button. How can I achieve this? Thanks!!

What factors into the calculation of the width of modal dialog windows? (problems with custom master

I have a fairly customized masterpage and while the modal dialog boxes seem fine in Chrome and IE, they aren't rendering wide enough in firefox causing them to need to be horizontally scrolled.

I've figured out that it's not my stylesheet because when I deactivate it the problem still remains. When I try going back to v4.master it also works fine, so I'm mostly positive it's my masterpage.

I've tried going through and removing various customizations but nothing seems to resolve the issue. I'm thinking it may be related to the ribbon which I have detached from the top of the page.

I'm hoping if someone knows how the width of the modal window is calculated I might be able to track down the bug.

I wish I could just set the modal windows to use a different masterpage all together or have more easily accessible css. Maybe Sharepoint 2012? :)

Working Dialog and Custom Branding

I have written JS to open Page as Dialog in Sharepoint 2010 well its works fine but Dialog also carry custom branding like header,menu and Footer.

As per Randy tips i have applied Class called s4-notdlg to all divs that i want to hide but unfortunately it doesn't work for me so i tried to inspect html code for Dialog  using firebug and came to know that somehow html code in iframe missing ms-dialog class and that's why its not working because of s4-notdlg class define is like this

 .ms-dialog .s4-notdlg {

        display : none;

any advise on this .

Thanks Ron

Open custom aspx page as modal dialog from link

Here's what I'm trying to achieve. I got a url field in my list which contains a link to a custom aspx page I've created earlier. I've added the "&IsDlg=1" property to my url and I want to page to be opened as a modal dialog. However the page opens full window and not as a dialog at all.

Do I have to create a custom field? I've seen how to open a modal dialog with javascript, but my url field only accepts http://xxx aso so I'm screwed. Any help is very much appreciated.

Custom modal dialog for 2007 launched from web part

I have a web part containing a button.  When clicked, the button unhides a div that I want to look like a SharePoint modal dialog (2007), I need it to work in 2007 so can't use anything from later SP products.

I don't necessarily have to unhide a div - showing a dialog via javascript or back-end ASP.NET code is fine as well.  I just need to duplicate the SharePoint dialog functionality somehow :)

"Launch forms in a dialog" setting is ignored for custom lists deployed with a feature

Hi folks!

I have a custom list (schema.xml) deployed with a feature. The list has custom new, edit and view forms defined in the schema.xml.

Every time i create, edit or view an item the form is displayed in a modal dialog. I tried to set tha "Launch forms in a dialog" to "No" in the Advanced Settings of the list, I also tried to set this property programmatically (SPList.NavigateForFormsPages), and I also tried to set it directly in the schema.xml.

With no success. My forms are still launched in dialogs! For other lists I create in the SP GUI this settings works as expected. Does anybody encounter the same problem and know a workarround??

Custom Controls in C# .NET

Embedding user controls in a Windows form is just like adding a simple button or text box that are already provided with .NET. These basic controls were written essentially like you code your own controls. Typically the controls you design are to be used in multiple forms or to modularize your code. These reasons help reduce the amount of code you have to type as well as make it easier for you to change your implementation. There should almost never be any reason to duplicate code because it leaves a lot of room for bugs. So, implementing functionality specific to your control in the control's source code is a good idea. This reduces code duplication as well as modularize your code, which is a good programming guideline.

A Generic Dialog ViewModel

I worked on a wpf viewmodel for dialogs, because it seemed strange to me that you needed for instance windows forms dialogs to open or save files in wpf. So I set about creating my own wpf dialogs. After creating the dialog viewmodels there still remained a small issue with the library and also I didn't have much time to write an article about it. I however published the library containing the viewmodels for dialogs with another article on my blog

Writing custom MembershipProvider

ASP.NET Membership mechanism allows to use the build-in server tables to store and retrieve user data. By default, this mechanism can only be used with SQL Server database to which Microsoft provides suitable MembershipProvider class.
Inheriting from this abstract class, developer can use his own table(-es) from any database and use any database engine other than SQL Server, like Oracle, DB2 etc.

Custom Editing Behavior for DataGridView TextBox Columns

For various reasons I'm using a DataGridView instead of a ListView, and while configuring the DataGridView to look like a ListView wasn't much of a problem, there's one thing that got on my nerves, which is the behavior of textbox cells in edit mode: It is much too easy to leave the edit mode accidentally, simply by pressing the cursor keys at the wrong time. For example when the text caret is positioned behind the last character of the textbox cell content, and you press the right arrow key

ASP.NET GridView - edit records using JQuery Dialog

There are many ways in which you could modify modular data in Grid View:
1. Inline by making rows editable when u click on Edit
2. By using separate pages for Edit
3. By using popups/dialogs for adding/editing

Write Custom WebParts for SharePoint 2007

The popularity of SharePoint Portal Server 2003 led Microsoft to tightly integrate the next SharePoint version, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007, with its ASP.NET 2.0 WebPart framework. This tight integration enables the ASP.NET and SharePoint developer to do a number of things that previously weren't possible

Writing Custom Web Parts for SharePoint 2007

As I mentioned in an earlier blog post, SharePoint 2007 is built on top of ASP.NET 2.0, which means you can now use ASP.NET 2.0 features (Forms Authentication, Master Pages, Membership, Site Navigation, New Data Controls, etc) when building SharePoint sites. This is true for both the new Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 version (which will be a free download) as well as Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (which costs money).

Custom views on .aspx webpage

Hi again, i have a client that needs me to create a custom view on thier webpage similar to Microsoft Word.

It goes about that, when I click on an image it redirects me to another page and must create a custom view for a certain paragraph on that page. I am not sure how to do this and wonder if anyone knows how.

I am using C# programming language if that helps at all. I Heard that using javascript would work but i dont know javascript yet so is there any alternative?

Open ModalPopup dialog on page load

Is there a way to make a modal popup panel active on page load so that the user can't do anything until they deal with the popup dialog?

How to implement custom HttpContext for each request under class that implements IHTTPHandler

Hello All,

I created an application and implemented IHTTPHandler for all incoming request ending with ".aspx" extension.

Under "ProcessRequest" module, I am creating an instance of HttpContext (with URL attributes different from my application's URL i.e. if I am working on localhost then speciying Yahoo.com as its URL) and assigning it to "context" which comes as method argument.

After redirection, an error is generated. Also, the custom HTTPContext is not passed to the requested page (default.aspx, in my case.)

Code is as follows.

    Public Sub ProcessRequest(ByVal context As System.Web.HttpContext) Implements System.Web.IHttpHandler.ProcessRequest
            Dim requestedUrl As String
            Dim targetUrl As String
            Dim urlLength As Integer
            'Save settings which will be used while redirecting to appropriate page
            requestedUrl = context.Request.RawUrl
            If requestedUrl.IndexOf("?") >= 0 Then
                targetUrl = requestedUrl.Substring(0, requestedUrl.IndexOf("?"))
                targetUrl = requestedUrl
            End If
            If targetUrl = Nothing Or targetUrl.Length = 0 Then
                targetUrl = requestedUrl
            End If
