Listbox question horizontal line

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Windows Application

Is it possible to display the items you add in a listbox horizontally instead of vertically? Now I have a result like this:

Item 1:

Item 2:

Item 3:

But I want a result like this:

Item1, Item2, Item3

I use listbox.Items.Add(variable name) to put the items in the box together with a for loop.

side by side DIVs don't line up on same horizontal line.

the following html is intended to render 2 fixed height DIVs side by side, on the same line. Odd thing is, when I add some text content such as <span>, <p> or <h1>, to one of the divs, that div is drawn down by a varying number of lines. ( depending on the number of lines of block level content. ).  When I duplicate the content in both divs, they snap back up and line up on the same horizontal line. I am getting this behavior in both chrome and IE8.  Is there an explanation? <div style="height:160px; width:200px; display:inline-block;            border:1px solid black;margin:0;padding:0;"><p>line 1</p><p>line 2</p></div> <div style="height:160px; width:200px; display:inline-block;            border:1px solid black;margin:0;padding:0;"></div> thanks,

Hide background horizontal line in Chart

Hello, I am using SSRS 2008.  I have a simple question which i hope someone might be able to help me with. I have a series chart The chart area has horizontal lines for which i see no option to hide or remove before report rendering.  Is there a way to control this so that my chart can have a blank background look.   Regards

How can I set the Horizontal Property of a line dynamically

Gridview column line wrap question

I have a ASP.NET gridview (embedded into a DIV) with several columns. For some columns line wraps are definied and for some not(with ItemStyle.Wrap = true/false). For all columns ItemStyle.Width is set to a specific value. Now I am wondering, that there is a line wrap in a column, where ItemStyle.Wrap = false. What could be the reason for that?

Horizontal Bar Chart and Overlaying Line Chart

I am using SSRS 2008 and developing my reports in BIDS.

I have a report with two data points. I want to chart the first as a bar (horizontal) chart and then the second as an overlaying line chart.

I created both data series, originally, as a bar chart. I have clicked on the second series in the "Drop Data Fields Here" area and changed the chart to a line chart. When I do that, it changes both series to a line chart.

However, if I use the column (vertical) chart for the first series, it will let me make the second one a line chart.

Is this a limitation of SSRS 2008? Can I not have one data point be the horizontal bar chart and the second one a line chart?

If so, are there any suggestions how to get around this?

ListBox tricky to set in a DataGrid/GridView

Listboxes are very tricky to set selected items in grid - there is no real nice way to do it. It would have been great if Microsoft included a property that accepts an array or comma separated values - or anything! But they only allow each item in the list to be selected individually. The way to do this in a grid is a bit messy, but it is fairly simple to implement. When a row is created (as per the event), select the items of the listbox as per the datagrid source data:

Working with DropDownList and ListBox Controls in ASP.NET

Some basic MVC question

  1. In regular asp net I can run (debug) the application but I can either "view in browser" that gives me the option to view the application and write code on same time.

In MVC I can't find this option.

  1. What is the basic DATA MODEL for working with SQL DB.

I mean with no any framework (entity framework, Sub sonic, Link to SQL etc')

I look for basic application that works with data but with no fw.

  1. What is the popular DB framework that working with data.
  2.  I am looking on  mvc series

Article commenting by line number

I'm wondering what's the best way to approach an online article system that allows users to comment by clicking on the line they are commenting about? Essentially the same way Adobe Acrobat works with comments where you can click anywhere and the text is saved for that location.

I'm assuming a mix of jQuery would be the crux of the interface. The system would need to save comments so that when another user logs in, they will also see the other comments but they can´t edit them - only add their own.

Any suggestions would be great.

Web Site to Web Application Question

I've been building web sites and for my next project I will be creating a web application.  I use a 'BasePage' class in all my projects but, since web applications do not contain the 'App_Code' folder, what is the best place/practice for the 'BasePage' class?

connection string question from a newbie

when publishing  in the webmatrix dialogue it asks for "destination connection string" for my "database.mdf"

I was not sure what it was so I pasted this from my web.config file :

Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\database.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True

it all published ok, but wont run, so I guess it has somthing to do with this connection string or some kind of configuration issue.

My question is this, What should go in the field for "Destination connection string"

Security Question Answer Retrieval

I know there is a method built in for retrieving the encrypted password, but how do I retrieve the encrypted security answer?

What I want to do is have a member profile update screen that the end user can update their password and security question and answer. However, when they get to this page, I want to already be showing the security question (the easy part) and its answer (the not so easy part).

I have updated web.config with passwordFormat=Encrypted and have added a machineKey with the generator (forgot the link, but located on eggheadcafe somewhere).

I haven't done ANYTHING yet, since I already have a user store with hashed information. I wanted to get some functionality done before publishing, wiping the store and recreating users (only a couple developers).

Very Basic Question - Error message running first page

Hi Everyone,

I am running Windows 7 and I have gone into Control Panel and activated all of the IIS Functions.

The web application I am running was downloaded from the net (and has worked on other machines previously).  Once I downloaded it, I moved it into C:/inetpub/wwwroot/code/main.asp

I am a bit of a novice at this!  But I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction!

I get the following error when I try and run the web application through IE:

"An error occurred on the server when processing the URL. Please contact the system administrator. If you are the system administrator please click here to find out more about this error."

(When i click the "click here" button it just goes to the IIS site).

Appreciate any help I can get!

New off line application working with sdf file. Need advice

Hey Folks

I am working on a project currently where I need to get data out of a 3rd party vendor's software that uses a .sdf file I looked this up and its a SQL CE file. I was hoping to just link to with with access but thats apparently not going to happen. I need to link to the database extract data from it to a csv file for later use. I also and most important I need to get the data from it and create a report that can be printed while on a customers site that my or may not have web access so I need for this program to be on and off line. I had my webapplication that I have been working on open and was able to bring up the sdf file under the server exploere however I can't seem to get anything out of it when I try to do grid views or detail views errors out.

Can I use one of Visual Studio projects to create this sort of applicaiton if so what would be the best approach. I would love to get an access odbc driver since office is allready installed on the employee's laptop's

C#, LINQ: (List<>) Question???

Hi Everyone,

I have a strange problem:

There is an entity (Table) called "Filters" in my .edmx which has all my tables and stuff in it (to use it for LINQ queries)

I have created a class called "CustomFilters" which inherits "Filters". So now my cutom class has all the properties of the original "Filters" class (table) and 1 more additional property that i wanted which is a List of "CustomFilters":

List<CustomFilters> children = new List<CustomFilters>();

Now i get all my records into:

List<CustomFilters> theOriginalList = new List<CustomFilters>();

NOTE: first all records are tken into a List<Filters> and then these are added into List<CustomFilters> where List<CustomFilters> for children of that record is added, and then children of the child records, and so on......

so now, every record is an instance of CustomFilters which has a property named "children" which is a list again; and each child again has instanaces of "CustomFilters", and each instance again has children...and on and on and on.....

(basiacally its a data source for a treeview in my silverlight control)

every thing is good and working as expected.

linqdatasource parameters question

I'm currently getting to know the linqdatasource control. What would happen if several WHERE parameters are added to the linqdatasource control declaritively in the aspx page but no WHERE clause is defined?

1. is there any issue with setting up multiple WHERE parameters in the aspx markup for linqdatasource but then deciding which ones actually get used at runtime by setting the actual WHERE clause at run time? Would the unused parameters simply be ignored and cause no issues?

2. when you need to modify WHERE clause or WHERE parameters at runtime do you need to do so in an event handler? such as linqdatasource.selecting?
I see from the above link it is possible, but is that the standard way to handle controlling filtering in code behind for linqdatasource?

2b. if you use an event such as linqdatasource.selecting to add where parameters and/or modify the where clause in code will that also break the builtin sorting and paging support of the linqdatasource with a gridview?
