Planning Phase for Moss 2010 Implementation

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Im on the planning phase for a Moss 2010 roll out with 15 sites and 3600 clients...

Allot i have to consider... firstly i must make recommendation's for connectivity and and where secondary servers must be located...

So, there is brob going to be a few questions but lets start with this:

  • Looks to me like on average each site has got about 240 clients. So guess i will have to have a Moss and SQL server at each site.                                        How do i create secondary multiple Moss servers for each site...
  • How much Kbps is required per user

I'm starting to think a server in a data center might be the better way to go.

Search Server Gatherer - Custom hierarchical protocol handler ISearchProtocol for MOSS 2010

Search server gatherer calls CloseAccessor() and shutdown() on ISearchProtocol after GetChunk() even if the FILTER_E_END_OF_CHUNKS is not returned. After calling shutdown() it stops calling the createaccessor() with new URL. I want to create a hierarchical indexing but I am not gatherer is not suporting this. The same piece of code is working fine in MOSS 2007, I am facing this issue in MOSS 2010 only. Is there anything changed in MOSS 2010 which is creating this issue?

SharePoint 2010 Server: Cannot manage all user profiles from upgraded MOSS SSP database

I have upgraded an SSP database to SharePoint 2010 and successfully performed User Profile Synchronization with Active Directory, however I cannot manage ALL of the user profiles in the database. I go to "Manage User Profiles" in Central Administration and perform a filtered search (i.e. I want all DOMAIN accounts beginning with "j" so I search for "DOMAIN\j" in Manage User Profiles), but I don't receive ALL the user profiles back. I receive about 8 in return when I know there are about 20 starting with "j". If I create a new AD account beginning with "j" it is successfully synched with SharePoint 2010 and I see it in the Manage User Profiles. I ran an stsadm -o sync to clear any old synchronization information, and the Forefront Synchronization Service appeared to pull in many changes to existing accounts (including ones I can't currently manage), but I still cannot manage them using "Manage User Profiles". I really need to be able to manage all the profiles so I can manually edit some fields. Can anyone please help? Thanks in advance.

MOSS 2007 Metadata using FAST 2010

Is it possible to include custom metatdata from MOSS 2007 sharepoint sites in the crawled index using Sharepoint 2010 with FAST?  If so can you include the steps to configure this correctly.  I am able to crawl and search MOSS 2007 sites but the custom metadata is not available in the results.

query w.r.t to SharePoint 2010 Performance Planning & Extranet Topology

  1.      Which extranet topology to go with in case of exposing Intranet to Remote Employees / Partners ?   My understanding:   There are 3 extranet topologies : Edge Firewall , Back to Back , Split back to back   If Scenario is : a)      Only Employees needs to access Intranet from Home ,we can go for Edge Firewall b)      If partners & Employees , both needs to access Intranet ( it will have some partner sites ) , then we can go for Back to Back OR Split back to back .   Questions: ·         Is Understanding correct ? ·         Is there any factor which can help in making a decision between Back to Back Or Split back to back ?   2.      As part of sizing , I read that we should capture following information -          What should be maximum acceptable CPU utilization in production servers ? ( Example : 70%) -          What will be the concurrent number of users accessing portal during peak hour of a day ? ( Example 1000 users from total of 18000 users ) -          How many request per second are done to portal

Best Way to Convert MOSS 2007 Site Templates to SharePoint 2010 Templates

Ok, I just treid to do something that I didn't really think would work, but now that I've seen it fail, I get to ask the question. Is there a best practice on converting site templates built for MOSS 2007 to SharePoint 2010. We have several projects that used the Visual Studio Extensions (v1.3) and the SharePoint Solution Generator to build custom site templates and the .wsp packages. I can add and deploy the solution packages using the STSADM tool, but when I try to create a sub-site based on that template, I get an Object Not Set to an Oject Reference Error. In case anyone is wondering, it works fine in MOSS 2007. I have not tried Visual Studio 2010 yet (it's downloading in the background). I'm just wondering if anyone has run into this and what they did to fix it. TIA, John.

Visual studio 2010 extensions for MOSS 2007/2010?

I know we need Visual Studio 2005/2008 extensions for WSS 3.0/MOSS 2007.  If we upgrate to Visual Studio 2010, do we still need to install a Visual Stidio 2010 extenstion for MOSS 2007?  For MOSS2010?

Consume MOSS 2007 list to 2010

Hi all, My end goal is to display a list in SharePoint2010 .... but the list actually originates from SharePoint2007. I thought it could be as easy as creating BCS to the SP2007 list web service (/_vti_bin/Lists.asmx) but BCS has issues with the complex data types and based on other threads this isn't possible.  We've been able to create a data source to the web service and display the list contents on a custom aspx page, but this isn't exactly our end goal. Is there a best practice for this type of thing?  Or do we have to go down the path of creating a custom web part while consuming the web service directly or the SOAP data source we've created?+ Note: Migration is not an option at this point... integration is our current path. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Eric

Inplace upgrade from moss 2007 to 2010 fails

Hello experts I have tried without success to do an inplace upgarde of a moss 2007 installation that I would consider very basic. The upgrade process itself seems fine but after you finish the configuration wizard and it attempts to go to the upgrade status page you get The provider 'CurrentNavigation' specified for the defaultProvider does not exist in the providers collection. (C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\39291\web.config line 385) When i check the upgrade errors logs im getting the following [OWSTIMER] [SPSiteWssSequence2] [INFO] [8/9/2010 2:18:36 PM]: SPSite Url=http://ehbmossserver/mysite [OWSTIMER] [SPSiteWssSequence2] [ERROR] [8/9/2010 2:18:36 PM]: Feature upgrade failed for Feature 'PremiumSite' (Id: '8581a8a7-cf16-4770-ac54-260265ddb0b2') in Site 'http://ehbmossserver/mysite'.
