PDF documents and sharepoint 2007

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi

Today one of our users come to me and told me, that he have a PDF document with some signatures and the funy think is that once he upload this document to SharePoint document library, then those signatures disappear (I've open this PDF thru the browser directly and also downloaded it to the disk and opened from the disk <- and he is right! Upload of PDF document to SharePoint for some reason remove those signatures! :().

In addition to above I've also made one additional excecise : before I've uploaded PDF document to sharepoint, I've changed his extension. Once I've done that and tried to open document by downloading it to the disk then document was fine! Signatures were presisted.

So, this for sure has to do something with PDF document and SharePoint.

Does anyone encounter similar problem ? I thought that there is no further processing of uploded documents.

thanks in advance

Unable to export/copy documents out of SharePoint 2007 libraries

Hi, A client had an issue a few months ago where their MOSS 2007 home site collection had to be restored after a major crash, it now works but they have loads of issues with the restored site(no need to go into) now I am trying to migrate the Data (files and folders only, no security or metadata) to a SharePoint 2010 installation, the problem is that I am unable to get any of the files out of SharePoint. I decided against an upgrade or any form of site migration as I might only be taking the problems with me. i am just trying to copy the files using the "Library - Actions - Open with Windows Explorer". The Explorer view window opens but if i select a file and move it into a folder on the server nothing happens, If I select a folder with files and folders in it then only the root folder is copied over but it is empty.  i don't want to repair any of the issues with the old site as it's only wasting time, can anybody think of a way to get all of the data out of Sharepoint 2007, without taking any of the lists or libraries or any other Sharepoint settings. I only need to keep the folder structure and files within them as i don't need any metadata and am recreating the security again seperately on the new SharePoint setup. Anybody have any ideas or know of free/trial products that i

How to save Office 2007 documents to SharePoint 2010 sites

Is it possible to save Office Word/Excel/Powerpoint 2007 to SharePoint sites directly from Office Clients? Following website helps with saving a Office 2010 document to SharePoint 2010, but how to do it with Office 2007? http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/word-help/save-a-document-to-sharepoint-from-office-2010-HA010380214.aspx  Kenny_I

Converting Word Documents library to PDF document library in SharePoint Server 2007

My project requires me to create an event reciever such that when a word file is added to one library the same content pdf file should be added to other library also when a word file is updated, edited or checked in the respective pdf file in other document library should be replaced by a new pdf file with the edited word content . Can we do this in Sharepoint 2007 I have seen this can be done in Sharepoint 2010 http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff181518.aspx

Publish Office 2007 documents with metadata to SharePoint 2010?

Hi. I have SharePoint 2010 Enterprise based Intranet solution. We are publishing office 2007 documents to various document libraries there. When uploading documents normally to the document library, I can enter managed metadata to the documents which are later sorted and filtered by this metadata. But how can I enter metadata at the point where I'm publishing the document(Publish->Document Management Server)? I can get the document management pane to show my metadata -column in word as a textbox after the document is published, but the textbox is colored grey and says that I should modify that data on the server i.e. from sharepoint.

Sharepoint 2007 - 80GB Documents in 1 document library

Hi, My customer wants 'customer docs' in SharePoint. It is now stored on several disks and wants to move it to SharePoint 2007(!). It needs to go into a folder structure.....I'm now investigating the information that needs to move to SharePoint and it turns out a quick scan resulted in 210.000 documents with a total volume of 80GB. Off course this is raw data and thus containing archives, zips, access databases and a lost movie and the like (just like any normal network drive :-)). When I look at the limits and best practices: no folder should contain more then 2.000 items (OK) no doc lib should contain more then 2.000.000 items (more then OK) no file should be larger then 2GB (OK - we set it to a max of 150MB) It is all fine but my concern is the shear size of the total load. Let's say they don't migrate 80GB but 30-50GB. My Question: can a single MOSS 2007 document library hold this kind of documents and total size? What does this mean for overall performance, backup, search indexing, crawling etc etc?  Thnx for any tips!

Sharepoint 2007 Upload Multiple Documents error on Windows Vista

Hi all, I am having an issue uploading multiple documents from a share using the "Upload Multiple Documents" on the toolbar in a document library. The user experiencing this problem has a Windows Vista machine that recently replaced XP. They have mapped shares that they use. The shares work fine in windows explorer, but when you click the + next to the share through the "Upload Multiple Documents" function on sharepoint, the machine thinks for a while, then removes the + and shows no documents. Anyone know why this is happening?

Word 2007 documents won't open from Sharepoint Services site

I have a Sharepoint Services 3.0 site that contains shared documents, Word, Excel, PDF, etc.  I cannot open Word documents directly from the shared documents portal.  Other file types like Excel adn PDF open fine.  It's only Word that has the issue.  I'm using Word 2007 and it doesn't matter if it is a .docx or a .doc, both act the same.  Word tries tro open, then just sits there....no error message or anything.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

SharePoint ItemUpdating EventReceiver and Office 2007 documents -- columns not updated

Hi,

We've created an ItemUpdating EventReceiver that sets various properties (columns in the library) on the document based on user selections in a couple other properties.  This code works fine and for all file formats in a Windows 2003 Server/MOSS 2007 environment.

In a Windows 2008/MOSS 2007 environment, however, when we upload MS Office 2007 documents (e.g. docx, xlsx, pptx) these updates are not made.  What's interesting is that the code does actually execute (we've compared logging statements for non-MS Office 2007 files to MS Office 2007 files, and all settings being equal, the code executes exactly the same way on both files, but when the library list view is refreshed, the pre-MS Office 2007 document HAS the values, but the MS Office 2007 documents do not!.

Anyone have any idea why this code is not able to "commit" the values to the documents?  Again, the code works fine (per our logging output), it's just that the values do "not take".....Is there something in the Windows 2008/MOSS 2007/Office 2007 "integration" that might be interferring or that would prevent values form being updated?

Long delay opening Word documents from SharePoint 2007 with Office 2010

The first time a document is opened it's fine, opens in just a few seconds.

Subsequently, there is a long delay (about 20 seconds) in the "Contacting server for information..." step.

This happens to all users and all documents, each one will open fast the first time then slowly the second and subsequent times (until, we think, the app pool is recycled - there is no schedules iisreset/reboot).

This does not happen when using Office 2007.

IE6 and 7 exhibit the same behaviour.

Issue with editing PDF Documents in SharePoint 2007

We have an issue where we can edit a pdf document in SharePoint 2007 by clicking 'Edit Document'.  This checks out the PDF document to the SharePoint Drafts folder.

We can edit the PDF from within this drafts folder then save it back to this folder.  However, when we go back to SharePoint and try to check it back in, we get an error.

Please note that we have to follow the above process because we log into one server (GIS) but the publishing site is out on another server within our DMZ.

This is actually the second issue we have had with SharePoint 2007 and Adobe Acrobat 8.  This first issue was when we clicked "Edit Document" from within SharePoint, the whole system would crash.  We changed the default drafts folder and have to follow the above process (e.g. check out, go to drafts folder and edit PDF, then save.  Go back to sharepoint and check it back in).

What I'm wanting to know is whether anybody else has had the same issue where you could not check the PDF document back into SharePoint?

If so, did you find a work around?

All documents open as Read Only in Office 2010 from SharePoint 2007

I have recently installed Office 2010 and now when I select "Edit in Microsoft Word" from a SharePoint document library, the document will only open as Read Only.  I am running SharePoint 2007 SP1, I have admin rights to the workstation, server, sharepoint list and document.

I have tried the registry entry " OpenDocumentsReadWriteWhileBrowsing = 1 " but that has made no difference.  I have also run webfldrs.msi with no effect.  The website is a trusted site and I have switched off all of the protected view options.

Any help welcome!

Uniqueness criteria on the documents uploaded into SharePoint 2007

Hi,

Working on integrating share point 2007 with an application through which people can upload documents. Share Point has uniqueness check on the documents file name. This integrating application doesn't have any uniqueness check on the file names. It allows any number of files with same file name to be uploaded and treated as different files. This application tries to upload all those files into a single document library in a share point site. Here, facing the issue. When multiple documents with same file name are uploaded in to a single share point site document library, share point treats the earliest uploaded file as version '0.1' and all other uploads and newer versions of the first uploaded file.

Would like to know, if there is any option in share point using which we can configure share point to apply uniqueness check on some other document attribute instead of the file name.

P.S: Can't enforce document name uniqueness in the other application. That application design demands allowing multiple files with same name uploaded, to be treated as different files.

Any leads in to this achieving this will be very helpful.

Thanks in advance

Unable to save Office 2007 document to SharePoint My Site Personal Documents document library

...also when Office documents are saved to document library they open as Read-only and cannot be saved back to the same document library.

This only happens in my production SharePoint 2007 environment from client XP and IE7 machine.  It does not happen in developement environment (which mirrors production) from client XP/IE7 machines.

Save works fine to SharePoint document libraries from client Win 7 and IE8 machines in both production and development environments.

This only happens when attempting to save to a My Site Personal Documents document library.  Any other document library this behavior does not exist from XP or Win 7 machine.

What settings controls ones ability to save to a personal My site document library.  What setting could be different between prod and dev installations?  It only happens
