Adding solution to source control

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I am facing strange behavior while adding solution to source control.

I am using VS 2005 and Visual source safe 6.0.

When I add my solution to source control the source control is creating a folder structure as per my solution structure. e.g. My solution is at location "c:\\sunil\\myProject\\Customer1"

Now when i add this solution to VSS, it create folder structure as follows "$/Project/sunil/myProject/Customer1". Ideally it should create my solution under "$/Project" only.

how to create a Solution from an existing one already in Source Control

We are using VS Ultimate. One developer has created a solution (xyz) which is displayed in Team Explorer and Source Control Explorer. I want to create a local Solution using his existing Solution. How can I do this? I started with File/New Project. I gave it a name and it now displays in Solution Explorer as 'Solution 'xyz_solution' (0 Projects). Already existing in Source Control is a folder named 'xyz Solution'. I want to populate my solution with this? Thanks for any direction on this.

The project file is not bound to source control, but the solution contains source control binding in

This may be more of a SQL Server Management Studio question, but I couldn't find a SSMS forum...

I've got a database solution that contains several projects.  They're just to keep track of changes to stored procedures, triggers, views, etc in a few databases I maintain.  There is a problem with two of the projects though.  No matter what I do, I can't seem to get them bound to source control right.  When I open the solution, I get:

The project file is not bound to source control, but the solution contains source control binding information for it.

With two options, use solution binding and remove solution binding.  If I keep the solution binding, everything works fine.  But it's really annoying to have to deal with every time I open the solution.  If I remove the solution binding, the projects are now unbound again.  If I try to fix them (using the change source control or Add Selected Projects to Source Control options under the File->source control menu), I just end up in the same situation.  I've even tried deleting the projects and re-creating them from scratch, then re-adding them to VSS.  If I open the solution files in a text editor I can see the SCC tags in every project, but these two.  Since I can't manually add the tags, and Management Studio itself only seems to want to bind them the wrong way, I'

Adding Dynamic Rows in ASP.NET GridView Control with TextBoxes and with Delete functionality

In my previous examples, I have demonstrated on how to add dynamic rows in GridView control with TextBoxes and how to save the values into the database. Now, seems that most of the developers are asking if how to add a delete functionality with it. So in this example, I'm going to show on how to delete a certain row in the dynamic GridView with TextBoxes.

Adding new items to a Repeater control with transitions?

I am currently in the process of writing a facebook type 'activity feed' for a site. Currently I am binding the last 10 items to a repeater control, which contains a usercontrol representing each item. This works fine but there are a couple of requiremnts that are giving me problems and wondered if the the good people of the forum could make some suggestions.

The requirement is that when a user clicks a refresh button any new events are added to the top of the list, the previous items drop down and the equivalent number of old items drop off the bottom, all with nice slider transitions.

I have put the repeater inside of an update control and are able to handle the transitions by using RegisterStartup script to drop jquery calls onto the page for the slider. However I cannot find a way to dynamically add or remove new datarows to the repeater. I need the old items to stay in the repeater and be pushed down by the new items, so completely refreshing the datasource seems like a bad idea.

I was thinking about maybe storing the datasource in the viewstate and adding rows to that, maybe with an extra column on the end which stores what transition is needed on the databind for my jquery, but there will be a 'View more items' link at the bottom of the page, so I am worried that the list could get pretty large and there

How to install the Css Friendly Control Adapter Source Code

Hi guys really new to ASP.NET I was trying to install the CSS Friendly control adapter but for some reason the instructions on the website seems outdated. I downloaded all the files (Source Code, DLL, Browser) I believe I need to add the DLL file to my website's Bin folder and the Browser file to the APP_Browsers folder is this correct? After I place this files how to I get it working? what do I have to do?

Also if I want to create a new DLL file from the Source code how do I do these? I opened the web-site with Visual Studio 2008 and I can see all the files in the solution explorer? But how do I compile this to a DLL file? I tried doing a build solution but all I get is an .sln file???

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

Virtual Source Code Control Systems: Promoting and Managing Projects using Visual SourceSafe

Source code control systems like Microsoft Visual SourceSafe can simplify just about any development project, and make it easier for your code to move safely among individual programmers, development teams, and project stages. Visual SourceSafe provides an object model that you can use as the basis of your own customized source code control environment. To give you an idea of what is possible, we'll walk you through the elements of a browser-based source code control system built with Visual SourceSafe, ASP, and VBScript. This simple system lets members of your team build, label, and promote individual files or entire projects, and to reverse promotions.

Problem getting applicaton to run after retrieving it from source control software.

I am restoring my asp 2.0 app from a source control project to my local drive.

I finally put all the pieces of the web app back together but now when I compile my app I get the following message:

Will I have to start over ?

Adding queries to a SQL solution

I have hundreds of queries related to many projects. I would like to create a SQL solution for each of these projects and import related queries to help organize my projects. I don't see how I can create a project and add an existing query without first creating a query in the solution, opening the existing query and pasting it into the solution query. Is there a way to directly import queries from a folder into a SQL solution?

adding a SharePoint content source using powershell

Hi I'm trying to create a content source using powershell and (I'm not a programmer) I've got this far -   [System.Reflection.Assembly]::Load("Microsoft.Office.Server.Search, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c") [System.Reflection.Assembly]::Load("Microsoft.Sharepoint, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c") [System.Reflection.Assembly]::Load("Microsoft.Office.Server, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c") $site = new-object Microsoft.SharePoint.SPSite("http://breakfast/ssp/admin") $searchContext = [Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.SearchContext]::GetContext($site)  $content = new-object Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.Content($searchContext) $Content.ContentSources; --> and now I'm stuck! I think I can use the Create method with type and name parameters but I can't work out how to translate this into powershell This is the code I'm looking at: ContentSource contentSource_com = content.ContentSources.Create(typeof(WebContentSource), "www.someurl.com"); WebContentSource webContentSource_com = (WebContentSource)contentSource_com; webContentSource_com.StartAddresses.Add(new Uri("http://www.someurl.com/index.html)); webContentSource_com.Update(); and $contentsource = $content.ContentSources.

Adding source redirect code to end of a URL which used a dynamic data value

I'm trying to add some source redirect code to the end of a URL in a Data Form Web Part on a simple SharePoint aspx page. This is the basic url: /itservices/helpdesk/Lists/Service%20Requests/DispForm.aspx?ID={@ID} However I want to add a source redirect to the end of the URL so that it returns to a particular page rather than the list's default page. I have tried all of the following: /itservices/helpdesk/Lists/Service%20Requests/DispForm.aspx?ID={@ID}&source=/itservices/Pages/MyOverview.aspx That causes an error in the web part stating "This Web Part does not have a valid XSLT stylesheet: Error; A semi colon character was expected". I tried replacing the ampersand with the URL encoded character: /itservices/helpdesk/Lists/Service%20Requests/DispForm.aspx?ID={@ID}%26source=/itservices/Pages/MyOverview.aspx But when opening from this URL the form contains no data. What am I missing or can this not be done? Thanks.

Adding a custom control to the SharePoint 2010 Team Site Wiki Page Template ( wkpstd.aspx ) programm

Topic This is maybe my last post about the Team Site Wiki Page customization with the aim of exceeding its limitations. This time we are going to customize the unique template ( wkpstd.aspx) by replacing the control that renders the editable content by a custom one. In this post example, we will take advantage of the use of this custom control to render not editable additional contents, for instance, a header and a footer that could be the same for a specific Wiki Page Library. Of course, we are not going to really customize the template, but we are going to use a delegate control to replace the control at runtime. Here are the screen shots of the result: We can see a non editable Header and Footer on the Team Site Wiki Page In edit mode these additional contents are not rendered, but we can add new content as usual And of course, after having saved the page, the new content is rendered wtih the non editable Header and Footer. Steps required   If you look at the Team Site Wiki Page template, wkpstd.aspx, you can see the control that is rendering the editable content/ <SharePoint:EmbeddedFormField ID="WikiField" FieldName="WikiField" ControlMode="Display" runat="server" /> We are first going to create a custom EmbeddedFormField control Then, we are going to use a delegate control to replace the native EmbeddedFor

Adding AJAX-enabled WCF Service to the Solution throws an error

Hi I am just trying to learn Ajax enabled WCF service, when I try to create a new web application and add new item "AJAX-enabled WCF Service" I get an error message that "The extension of type 'System.ServiceModel.Configuration.WebScriptEnablingElement, System.ServiceModel.Web, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' is not registered in the extension collection 'behaviorExtensions'. I had .net2.0/VS2005 and then I installed VS2008. I thought it might be an issue with Machine.config. So I am attaching my machine.config info. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>    <!--    Please refer to machine.config.comments for a description and    the default values of each configuration section.     For a full documentation of the schema please refer to    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=42127     To improve performance, machine.config should contain only those    settings that differ from their defaults.    -->    <configuration>      <configSections>    <section name="appSettings" type="System.Configuration.AppSettingsSection, System.Configuration, Version=, Culture=neutral, Publi

Adding XAML via control property

Hi, I'm attempting to create a custom chart control that has 1 or many line series within it. My question is, is it possible to create a property of that control, that when checked in the designer, will automatically add the line series xaml within the chart series? For example, if you click on the "Add Test Series" check box, which is of type boolean, it will then add <chartingToolkit:LineSeries /> into the xaml of the control as well as to the series of the control.   <local:TestChartControl> <chartingToolkit:LineSeries /> </local:TestChartControl>     Thanks
