18456 error (severity 14) with a state of 38 issue

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hello, everybody,

I have a 18456 error (severity 14) with a state of 38 when trying to install CA Unicenter ServiceDesk application on my computer with SQl Server 2008 Express installed.

The user seems to be granted all required permissions, but the application shows the specified error and installation finishes.

So, the application tries to login to server and create a new database on it.

As far as I know. the 38 state means "Login successful, but database unavailable (or login not permissioned" .

Please help!

SQL Server 2005 x64: Intermittent "Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 10."

Hi, We are experiencing intermittent authentication errors "Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 10" on a customer's production server. This is a new server that has just been rolled out in the past several months. Rebooting the server appears to make the problem go away. We are using SQL authentication from a separate server that is running IIS. The application always uses the same username and password to connect. SQLServer Express 2008 R2 - Cannot connect Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11.

I have just installed  running MSSQL Server 2008 R2 (Express), along with Visual Web Developer 2010 Express In SQL Server Configuration Manager I can see the SQL Server Service running (SQLEXPRESS) and the SQL Server Browser service running. On running SQL Server Management Studio when trying to log on I get the message Login failed for user Phil-PC`Phil (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18456) In the SQL Server Error log I see this error 2010-09-16 10:24:16.07 Logon       Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11. 2010-09-16 10:24:16.07 Logon       Login failed for user 'Phil-PC\Phil'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors. [CLIENT: <local machine>] I have been unable to find anything useful on Google on how to resolve this problem. I have tried running the command line utility sqlcmd -L and this lists the following Servers:     Phil-PC     Phil-PC\SQLEXPRESS   In my list of Installed programs in Control Panel I see both MS SQL Server 2008 & MS SQL Server 2008 R2, is that correct?

Error: 18456 Severity: 14, State: 11

I have a SQL 2005 SP1 test server running Developer Edition on top of Windows Server 2003 SP1.  We're testing out a 3rd party application that is using Windows Authentication to connect to SQL 2005.  The SQL Error Log is saturated with the error message listed in the subject line.  The text accompanying the message alternates between "Login failed for user 'MYDOMAIN\TESTDA1$'. [CLIENT: <named pipe>]" and "Login failed for user 'MYDOMAIN\TESTDA1$'. [CLIENT: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]".

There are two strange parts to this:  1) The application appears to be working fine on the surface, and, 2) The MYDOMAIN\TESTDA1$ account mentioned in the error text is not the user account that we are using to connect the application to SQL 2005.  TESTDA1 is the server name that the 3rd party software is running remotely from.

I've looked up "error state 11" using the following resource:

http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2006/02/21/536201.aspx

It describes error states 11 and 12 as "Valid login but server access failure" but I'm not sure what that means.  Why would SQL care about the computer account hosting the applica

If I grant all of this users individualy (same access rights as the group has) login works all right??
It already checked default/initial db.

Any help is highly appreciated.

SQL failover on 2 different clusters with message: Error: 17189, Severity: 16, State: 1.

SQL: SQL Server 2005 SP2 CU2 64-bit Ent Edition, Active/passive Cluster. Involved in transactional replication both as a subscriber (to about 350 publishers), and a publisher (to 1 subscriber). Distribution runs on seperate servers. Hardware: both nodes are Dell 6850'x 8 cores, 16  BG ram, running on a CX3-80 SAN   Utilization: 24x7 sales website - this is the OLTP DB supporting it.   Server Usage:   CPU typically around 10%-20%. Still getting specific about CPU during the actual failures, but it doesn't spike, and no MOM alerts fired. User Connections: historically was around 500-600, but during this week, some changes made to on the distribution server handling the the 400 publications the server subcribes to, has been changed, and we not have around 250 user connections.   We have had quite a few issues this week - but none before this week.   Changes: Other than a change to the way we are getting the transactional replication data into this server (reducing the number of publishers connecting to the OLTP DB), no *known* system changes - no SQL upgrades, no OS upgrades, no hardware changes/ugrades, no application/DB releases. We have a semi-decent change control system, so while we will chase those areas to ensure nothing unknown happened, they aren't our primary area of suspicion.   What we are seeing is a large amount (several hundred) of the following messages (taken

Error: 2803, Severity: 10, State: 1. (Params:). The error is printed in terse mode because there was error during formatting. Tracing, ETW, notifications etc are skipped.

I am trying to find out ideas on how to troubleshoot this error message and exactly what it means. I have seen lots of articles call this error message out but nothing really explaining the significance of it or the true meaning, or even things to check when a similar error has been seen. The error is always preceeded by "Starting up database....." I don't necessarily know if that is related or not

Any ideas on what this error typically means

IsapiModule Error 500 Issue

I am about exhausted trying to figure out this error:
