Exporting data to an excell spreadsheet

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I am trying to export data to an excel spreadsheet using SSIS, but I do not have excel installed on the server where I am running the SSIS package. When I try to create the excel file, I get an error. Do I have to have excel installed in order to create the file?

Any help would be appreciated

Adding data from Excel spreadsheet to SQL table

This is not a programming question, I simply have a lot of data in two columns in an excel spreadsheet of data that I gathered.  I want to copy and paste this (manually) into a table that I have created in my ASPNETDB in my ASP.NET web application.  I thought it'd be as easy as copy the column, and hit paste in the "table data" view, but it's not (it only pastes one cell). Is there a way for me to manually copy data from excel and paste it in a table in my SQL Server? Thanks in advance! :)

Excel External Table Data can only create new SharePoint List when Exporting from Excel?

I have a SQL Query that I refresh everyday in Excel. I want to be able to export this list over to a SharePoint list right after my refresh in Excel but I can only Export to a SharePoint list only once. If I try to export again to the same list then it will give me the error "The specified list name is already in use on this server. You must rename the list before publishing it to the server." I have web parts that have connections to this list and I do not want to export my Query to a new SharePoint list everyday. Does anyone know a way around this issue?

Exporting Data from SQL Server to Excel; From Excel to SQL Server

I read some documentation on the web today about exporting data from SQL Server to Excel, and doing the reverse, exporting data from Excel to SQL Server.  Actually, this link was pretty good:

For one thing, what is Excel linked server "EXCELLINK"?

This is pretty good too:

This is very good; gets pretty complicated though:

I’m still pretty confused about how it all works.  It’s very easy to turn on the Macro Recorder in Excel, connect to SQL Server, choose a Table, and import date from that Table, but I would like to know if there is a more eloquent way of retrieving data, rather than doing something like:

"ODBC;DRIVER=SQL Server;SERVER=EXCEL-4J2W8KYNP\SQLEXPRESS;UID=;APP=2007 Microsoft Office system;WSID=EXCEL-4J2W8KYNP;Trusted_Connecti" _

Exporting to spreadsheet showing no results

Hi guys,

I have a list that contains a few columns including calculated fields. When I export to a spreadsheet (via Actions => Export to Spreadsheet), I get the usual authentication prompt and thereafter the column headers appear but not the data. I don't have item-level security or anything fancy running on that list.

This is really confusing me. Has anyone had this problem?

Exporting data that is in wrong code page in SQL Server

I have problem, when tryin to export data from SQL Server 2005 using Integration Services.

Sql Server has collation SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS (code page 1252), but the actual data is encoded using code page 1257 (SQL_Latin1_General_CP1257_CI_AS). When I look the data using Management Studio, it is displayed wrongly, but when I convert the string to binary, I can see that bytes are encoded using code page 1257. I'm trying to read this data using SSIS 2005, but extended characters are always handled wrongly.

How should I read this data using SSIS?

My first assumption was changing DefaultCodePage to 1257 in my OLE DB Source component (also AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage to true). But without luck.

Also tried to convert data in my SQL Server query using COLLATE, but didn't work.

Is there something I could do to get it working?

Writing data from Gridview to Excel spreadsheet

Found code to do this but get an error I cannot correct.

Error is:

Here is the asp and the vb code:

Main asp page:

<form id="form1" runat="server">
        <asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AllowPaging="True"
            AllowSorting="True" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" Width="809px">

Suggestion about exporting data into Access database from sql server 2008 without Linked Server

We have a website that was using Sql server 2005. There was a option in Website where when a user clicks a button, Some tables data will be exported to an access database. To achieve this, we have setup a linked server to Access database. We have moved from sql server 2005 to 2008 (64bit). We did not want to use that option of having a linked server now. I am looking for different ways to achieve the task. We also donot want to use OPENROWSET and OPENDATASOURCE .

Can someone  give some insight about this?

Exporting encrypted data to a text file

Hi All,

I have a table with one coumn encrypted using SQL encryption. What i need to do is extract this data, encrypted but in a readable format (in the table, the encrypted data looks like asian characters), and send it off to a vendor who will then import and decrypt the data. I've worked through the requirements of db master key/certificate and symmetric key being the same on both our end and the vendor's end.

But i cannot generate a text file properly. I use the import/export wizard and select 'unicode' and when i do a preview i can see the encrypted data string. After i generate the txt file, and load it into my new test database, apply the same db master key/certificate and symmetric key, and then try to decrypt the data, the clumn shows NULL values.

Can someone help out with what im doing wrong in the file generation? Should i be using import/export wizard or something else like bcp?

Thanks in advance

Surrogate vs Natural Primary Keys - Data Modeling Mistake 2 of 10

In case you're new to the series I've compiled a list of ten data modeling mistakes that I see over and over that I'm tackling one by one. I'll be speaking about these topics at the upcoming IASA conference in October, so I'm hoping to generate some discussion to at least confirm I have well founded arguments.

The last post in this series Referential Integrity was probably less controversial than this one. After all, who can argue against enforcing referential integrity? But as obvious as surrogate keys may be to some, there is a good deal of diversity of opinion as evidenced by the fact that people continue to not use them.
