Deploy and update script file with custom ribbon tab to Sharepoint Server 2010

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hey everyone,

currently I'm building a custom tab for Sharepoint Server 2010 and at the moment I'm stuck on the following issue,
with the first debug deployment Visual Studio sends the .js file that provides some functions for the ribbon elements from Scripts folder in the VS project
to Sharepoint Server.
However, it won't apply any changes I did on the script afterwards to the file on the server.
So the effect is, that as soon as I do the next debug, the previous script is being used by Sharepoint and the new version, containing the new code, is left aside.

It seems to me as if Visual Studio would only deploy the .js file just once and then rely to this copy, maybe there are some configuration settings to make, but after hours of research, I still can't figure out where things do go wrong or what configuration to apply to update the script on the server.
I couldn't locate the file on hdd either, even searched the whole fs but the results showed only the new script file.

Any help on this would be very much appreciated, this issue drives me nuts and consumes plenty of time ;)

Workaround at the moment: each time the script is changed, set up new project... :D

How to update JavaScript in SharePoint Ribbon Elements.xml file?

I created Elements.xml file that added button to Ribbon of Web Part page.
I created <CommandUIHandler tag and put JavaScript into CommandAction.
Everything works.

I inserted changes to JavaScript and built and deployed project in VS2010.
The button function was not changed the previous JavaScript was used. I uninstalled feature and rebuilt and redeployed project. The button functionality was not changed again.

What I have to do that JavaScript changes work in CommandAction?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Sharepoint 2010 custom file crawling from user submission C#

Ive currently got a user control on a search page that displays related documents for a particular record based on the GUID. What I have is an integration between ms CRM and sharepoint. i.e got an iframe in CRM pointing to sharepoint showing related documents for a particular record. All that is working well but now my issue is this:

When a user uploads a document from crm, it uploads succesfully but as its not crawled, it wont appear in their iframe view. Initially in my code ive started an incremental crawl when a document is succesfully submitted spcs.StartIncrementalCrawl() the problem with this is that this typically takes about 3-4mins. what I want to do (if possible) is crawl the exact document/url uploaded. I see theres the StartAddresses.Add method in the ContentSource class but I cant get this to work as the URI i provide (url of the document url) causes an error.

Anyone have an example of this which is NOT a WebContentSource or does anyone have any ideas how I could do this?

Thanks

SharePoint Server 2010 October Cumulative Update My site Problem

Hi everyone

I have created a small farm with a default installation. I have 2 web application configured using Claims authentication.

The first web application is hosting a site called http://sharepoint.domain.com running a standard team site.
The second web application is hosting a site called http://my.sharepoint.domain.com and is running the Mysite.

When I install the October cumulative update the My Site links vanish and the My site is no longer accessible showing a sharepoint Access Denied page.

Has anyone else experience this? Do you know how to fix it?

Thanks

Chris Hughes

Setting of sharepoint 2010 custom WCF service "web.config" file for both HTTP and HTTPS

Hi,

I have created a custom SharePoint 2010 WCF service that is deployed to 14\ISAPI\MYService folder. The issue i am facing is that this service should be accessible from all Web applications, that can be HTTPS (i.e. SSL) enabled or normal HTTP. If i am making in web.config file for web application that has HTTPS enabled, then it fails for Web applications having normal HTTP configuration. My requirement is that when this WCF service is deployed it should accessible from all web applications that can be HTTPS or HTTP both. I went through number of blogs and tried whatever option they had suggested but none of them worked for me :(. Here are some of the blog that i tried:-

Accessing SharePoint 2010 Data with Server-Side APIs

Accessing SharePoint data in server-side solutions is one of the most common tasks that you will perform as a SharePoint developer. SharePoint 2010 provides powerful server-side APIs that enable you to retrieve, add, edit, and delete SharePoint data programmatically. SharePoint 2010 also includes the new LINQ to SharePoint technology that enables you to work with SharePoint data efficiently and easily.

SharePoint 2010 provides new user interface components, such as server ribbons, and the new dialog platform. As a developer, you can create controls for the server ribbon and dialog boxes for the dialog platform.

ClientAccessPolicy file in SharePoint 2010

I am upgrading my Silverlight demo code from the old beta to beta 2 and see that there are a few new considerations for the deployment of ClientAccessPolicy.xml files. In a previous post I demonstrated how to do this for SharePoint 2007. The heartburn that I get with that approach is any site collection owner or designer can drag the file into the site collection and open the site up to unwanted client access issues. In 2010 the virtual path provider no longer serves the files from the root of the site collection

We'll show you how to use Office OpenXML, Word Automation Services and SharePoint to build a simple application that merges separate status reports into a single document.
