Metadata publishing not available for list

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hello All,

I need a little help. I cannot enable metadata publishing on a list, because this section is entirely missing. I can enable it on a document library, but it does not work: I create a managed metadata column, I tag a document and the used tag does not become a social tag. I ran an incremental crawl, the Social Data Maintainence Job but still the used tag was not included in the social tags.

I know something is wrong, but cannot figure out what.

Thank you,

How to add List item in search results for anonymous in a publishing site?

Hi all,   For now, results in Library (document set or not) are shown and the link is the binary file. This is ok. But for list, anonymous users can't view results. As logged in I see the items in the AllItems.aspx page. How could I allow this result to be viewed by anonymous users too?      Thank you,   Benoit Pironet

Can Managed Metadata columns be edited in the DataSheet View of a Library or List?

Hi, I like to mass set document properties in a library using DataSheet View, the properties are columns based on Managed MetaData values. When I open the doc library in Datasheet view, those columns become read-only. I made sure the library does not require 'Check Out' and also tested it in other views then the AllItems view. Can someone confirm what is the expected functionality and or if there is a bug?

Need to link multiple External Content List items to a single document metadata column

I have an external content list - for my purposes, the data isn't any fancier than a list of terms provided by a web service (read only - I don't need update/delete functionality). I want to be able to link any subset of those terms to a single document metadata column (in other words, I need it to work like a normal content list that is defined to allow multiple values in a column) but SharePoint doesn't let me do that on an ECL. I need the content list to be externally driven since more values are going to be added to an outside system over time, but I think it's possible that I may not need a full-fledged ECL list to make this work this way in SharePoint. Just to clarify: I don't need the metadata values in my documents to maintain a PERSISTENT link to the web service (if someone changes an underlying value in the web service DB, it doesn't need to be updated in the document table too). I just want SharePoint to offer up an updated set of source values from the web service if somebody goes in and edits the document metadata. Any ideas for how I can make this work?

list of employees - custom list or managed metadata term set ?

Hi all, I am working on a intranet site for a small company with 25 employees. They want to create a site for tracking employee training. Most of the items on this site are going to be associated with an employee entity. What is the best way to manage the employee entity ? should I create a custom list called employee or should I create a term set called employee containing the names of all 25 employees ? In a related question is it possible to add a "people picker" field to a custom list ? ( e.g. Training schedule list ) I note that for 'assign to' columns SharePoint provides a dialog which enables you to browse and select users from active directory. Is there a way to add similar lookup functionality to a custom list in SharePoint ? thanks and regards, Counie

2010 Metadata Publishing not works as expected

When enabling Metadata Publishing in library settings, used terms that come from managed metadata or enterprise keyword columns should also be published as social tags and used tags should be available on mysite, e.g. in activity list. But that is not the case in my installations. If I link to a used tag, e.g. /tagprofile.aspx?termid=27a8997d-4459-4bae-ad76-bdb2e249fced the tag is found on the tag profile and displayed with name and source (e.g. some taxonomy). But the list of marked items, that used the tag in last days, remains empty. Also the search for all items that are tagged with this term delivers no results. I know that there is security trimming, but I'm the owner of these documents, so this should not be the reason. How to display these taged documents on mysite automatically? For pure social tagging (e.g. by using tags & notes neear like it) it works, but not in case of metadata publishing. Any ideas? Any documentation? That would be great. Publishing HTML Field with External List

I have an external content type I created and an external list that I provisioned off of the content type.  I want to customize how the user edits some of these columns.  I need one of my list columns to be a field type "image" and one to be a field type of "HTML".  I tried exporting the list as an wsp and importing into an empty sharepoint project.  When I review the custom schema.xml for the list I can see the fields referenced from the externa content type.  I altered these fields so that they conform to the types I need.  For some reason when I deploy the list definition and instance those fields are still textboxes.  I have googled this topic and there doesn't seem to be much out there.  Does anyone have any idea as to how I can accomplish this.  I originally wanted to build my list structures out in sharepoint but there are many parent child relationships and after realizing I cannot create a lookup type field that references a sharepoint list declaritively in CAML due to the fact that the listid has not been created because it hasn't been provisioned I abandoned that concept and put my tables in a SQL database.  I need the user to be able to associate a sharepoint image and some HTML in a couple of columns in this table.

Add managed metadata column to list - access denied + terms not visible in lists

Firstly the following is not a problem for users given "Full Control" (and possibly other permission levels might work) at the web application level in central admin.

For any other user with permissions set at site collection level, even "site owners" (full control) , these problems arise.

  1. When adding managed metadata columns to a new document library list, clicking save results in multiple access denied errors getting logged (as seen using UlsViewer) and an exception is raised (sharepoint error page)
  2. In existing document library lists managed metadata column headings are displayed in list views but the terms text is not displayed.
This problem shows up even if the logged on user is the term set owner.  "Available for tagging" is enabled, submissions policy is closed.
Looking at http://<the-site-domain>/Lists/TaxonomyHiddenList/AllItems.aspx and then checking list permissions I can see that "All Authenticated Users" has Read permission level.
Integrated windows authentication - NTLM + Claims Based Authentication is the only authentication method used. It's an intranet site.

Thanks in advance for any help.

List Metadata navigation settings and Key Filters via SharePoint API or schema?

Hi guys

I am trying to set the metadata navigation settings and key filters (list settings > Metadata navigation settings) for a given document library that has a bunch of managed metadata columns (via a proper Content Type)

How do I do that via the API or XML Schema?

I wanna set the metadata navigation settings so that I can browse a document library by a given metadata column (it's actually displayed in the treeview if you enable the treeview )

There has to be a way since this functionality is provided via the UI, or is this something hardcoded in the back that's sealed?

Metadata publishing for this service is currently disabled Problem under IIS7

I am struggling with an issue that I haven't seen before, at least not without a simple resolution. I have seen numerous articles about this issue but I haven't found one that actually gives a solution that works and its really becoming a royal pain.

I am getting the message, "Metadata publishing for this service is currently disabled" when attempting to host my service in IIS7 on windows 7. I have only seen this problem since I migrated to VS2010 using the .NET 4 Framework.

I have adjusted my web.config file in effort of resolving the problem but to no avail. Anyone here able to help me out on this one? I am totally exhausted on going in circles for this issue.

Here is my code:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
    <compilation debug="true" targetFramework="4.0" />
        <behavior name ="MapServiceBehavior">
          <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true"/>

Metadata publishing is disabled

Hello there,

Im going crazy with my first WCF development. I have been working fine couple of minutes back before service died again. Meta data publishing is disabled. Here is my service config

Metadata publishing for this service is currently disabled.

I have tried to do what some have suggested to have the metadata publishing enabled but cant figure this out. Could anyone assist in what i could be doing wrong here? Ive read a few blogs and nothing seems to work. Im running as an admin, Win 7, VS2010 + all updates. My Web.Config file under my ASP .net site is:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
  <compilation debug="false" strict="false"

"Metadata publishing for this service is currently disabled" yet again!

I've followed all of the suggestions described in the other Q&As on this subject but so far nothing has worked - I still get the "Metadata publishing for this service is currently disabled" page.  Here is my web.config file:

   <service name="StationCasinos.Workflow.RuntimeService.WorkflowRuntimeService" behaviorConfiguration="StandardBehavior">
      <add baseAddress="http://localhost:6555/EnterpriseWorkflow/MessagingServic

Cannot copy the value of a managed metadata column from one list to another

I have a problem when trying to copy a value of a managed metadata column from one list to another by a Sharepoint Designer (SPD) Workflow

I have two lists. "Locations" and "Employees". "Locations" has a Content Type integrated that has a Site Column of the type managed metadata named "Geographic Location". This Managed Metadata column describes the geographic location from continent down to the city name. I also have a Content Type for the "Employee" list. This one contains a lookup column "Location Abbreviation" on the title column of the "Locations" list and the same managed metadata column "Geographic Location". Now my Workflow is created to work with the Content Type "Employee" and goes like this:

Set current item:Geographic Location to Locations:Geographic Location (where Current Item:Location Abbreviation equals Locations:Location Abbreviation (Lookup Value (As Text)))

But the workflow always reports "Error occured". The message is:

"The workflow could not update the item, possibly because one or more columns for the item require a different type of information."

But is is very unlikely that this message is useful as both columns use the same Site Column. Do you have any Ideas?

Using Infopath 2010 to customize a SharePoint 2010 list with columns using Managed Metadata

Hello All-

I would like to customize the "new" form on a SharePoint list that has some columns that use managed metadata term sets as options.  Unfortunately, when I do so, I get the message:

"InfoPath cannot generate a form template for the SharePoint list."

The following fields in the SHarePoint list are not supported because of their data type and will not be available in InfoPath Designer:

-MyColumnName (TaxonomyFieldTypeMulti)

This error message seems to be pretty self explanatory, but it boggles my mind that this would be the case.  Can I really not customize my list "new" form in Infopath if I am using columns with managed metadata?  Any workarounds?

'Metadata publishing for this service is currently disabled' message with WCF service

Whenever I try to add a web reference to the WCF service in my project, I get an error:

'The HTML document does not contain Web service discovery information.
There was an error downloading 'http://localhost/OFTestSite/Service.svc/$metadata'.
The request failed with HTTP status 400: Bad Request.'

When I browse Service.svc directly from the IIS, the page opens with the statement 'Metadata publishing for this service is currently disabled.'

I followed all the steps correctly to make metadata publishing enabled, but still I get the same message and I'm not able to add the web refernce.

Could anyone please help me?

(I am using VS 2010 Professional on Windows XP machine with IIS 5.1)

Publishing metadata with relative URI's; why won't it work?

I have some WCF services that are hosted in a Windows Service and I need to publish the metadata. Preferrably, I would like to use one baseAddress for all my services.

So this works;

Uri baseAddress = new Uri("https://localhost:8181/MyInterface");
<snip />
serviceHost.AddServiceEndpoint(typeof(IMyInterface), binding, "");
serviceHost.AddServiceEndpoint(ServiceMetadataBehavior.MexContractName, binding, "mex");
<snip />

I can get the metadata from https://localhost:8181/MyInterface?wsdl

Now, I want to publish the same service using a relative URI;

Uri baseAddress = new Uri("https://localhost:8181");
<snip />
serviceHost.AddServiceEndpoint(typeof(IMyInterface), binding, "MyInterface");
serviceHost.AddServiceEndpoint(ServiceMetadataBehavior.MexContractName, binding, "MyInterface/mex");
<snip />

Now, the service is still 'listening' at
