Is it possible to create a custom lookup field type to have a BDC entity as the data source?

Paste data in a lookup column

Hi all, I am trying to create a Sharepoint list from a previous Excel file and I would like to use a lookup column, to allow users to pick values of “column B” from “column A”. The values are already entered in "column A", so now I would like to edit the list in datasheet view and copy/paste the values from my excel file into my “column B”. It works well when I copy/paste only one data, but when I try to paste several values in the same row (using a semicolon as delimiter), I get the error message “Cannot paste the copied data due to data types mismatches or invalid data.”, although the column is set to allow multiple values. I noticed that lookup columns allowing mulitple values store items with the item ID, as follows: ITEM NAME;#ITEM ID, but don’t display it in datasheet view or standard view, and I guess this is why I can’t copy and paste the data from my excel file since they don’t have the ID encoded, but is it possible to do it anyway? Thanks for your help.

Unable to load data into a LookUp column in sharepoint using sharepoint destination

I have loaded details of a customer on a list and was able to load the data with out any problem using sharepoint list destination. We have a lookup column called customerid looking at customer list  . This lookup column is in another list, called Customer Main, so I am trying to load additional data for customer in this customer Main  list which contains a lookup column called customerID. I was not able to load data into this cutsomerid, whereas rest of the data is coming into sharepoint with out any problem. How should I load data into a lookup column. Thanks

Lookup Column Data on seperate Subsite

Is there a way to make a look up reference a column on a seperate subsite?  I was thinking I could do it with BCS but I seem to be having an issue setting up a MOSS 2010 list as a source.

Basically I have SubSiteA with a list that includes some catalog information for systems and SubSiteB is a Doc Center that contains various atricles about the systems. I want to have one column in SubSiteB reference a Column from SubSiteA to use as metadata for search/filter purposes.

Any thoughts?  Thanks

Insert an item in a Lookup column's source List from the NewForm

When Lookup Column of a List does not contain a value in the DropDown menu can it be added/inserted into the source Lookup List from the NewForm without leaving the NewForm?

Is there code or example how to insert the Item in the source List, then refresh/repopulate the Lookup Column's DropDown menu (in the NewForm)?

Cannot drag an Entity Framework Data Source (created in a separate solution) onto WPF Design Surface

I receive the error Cannot add the control to the design surface or bind to the contol because the type Pec.CustomerEntity.Carrier, Pec.CustomerEntity,Version=0.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null cannot be resolved.  Please try to build the project or add necessary assembly references  (I have rebuilt and it still doesn't work)   -  when I try to drag the data source onto the window.

If I create an entity framework project within the wpf application solution and create a data source and reference to it, it works fine when I drag the data source onto the window.  I only get the error when I create a reference to an EF project .dll created outside of the wpf project.  I am using Visual Basic 2010.    I have also tried adding the project to the wpf solution and it still gives me the error.

Refresh data source view gets 'column' argument cannot be null

When I try to refresh a data source view in SQL Server 2008 BIDS, I get the error: System.Data   'column' argument cannot be null.  Parameter name: column.   How to resolve this?  The underlying tables have no data yet.

lookup column data not visible with REST

Using Designer 2010 and a data view web part, the Lookup column data, is not showing when I reference my list with REST. Is there something special I need to do to be able to see this data? I came across an article that talked about lookup data not being part of the physical list. Is that relevant?

Thanks in advance for any help

ASP.NET 4.0 Dynamic Data and Many to Many Entity Framework Entities

I did not play much with Dynamic Data controls in VS2008 and just made a cool discovery in VS2010 Beta 2. This may not even be new, but as I'm sitting 30,000+ feet over the Atlantic ocean, I don't have access to VS2008 at the moment to check.

Rendering data with HTML tags in the DD Gridview for a selected column

I am having trouble finding out where and how to HTML Encode a cell's data on the Dynamic Data (v4.0) gridview of List.aspx.  As a simple case, suppose I have formatted cell data that is A<br/>B in the DB.    Obviously, I want A stacked on B in the cell.

It seems gridView1.HtmlEncode = true has gone away.

So maybe I'll try to catch it on the RowDataBound event:

protected void GridView1_RowDataBound(Object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)

        {
            if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow)
            {
                // Html Encode the cells
            }

        }

but this event never fires?

Has anyone figured out how to properly render HTML tags data in the List.aspx's GridView1?

If I figure this out, then I can add a MetaAttribute called something like [EncodeAsHtml(true)] and be on my way.  Thanks!

Data accessors or Entity framework

The entlib 5 sugest me to use with data accessors for mapping data from database to my data objects (ORM).

But in .NET 3.5 and especially in .NET 4, I can use in entity framework as ORM methodology for data objects.

What data accessors uses advantages over the entity framework?

What differences that should be affect on my using decisions?
