VS 2010 encountered problem needs to stopped - again and again

Posted By: Posted Date: October 21, 2010 Points: 0 Category :ASP.Net

I had installed VS 2010 Premium RC on my Windows7 machine and it was all going so well. I'd created a solution with some projects and was working perfectly happily. I was called onto another project but when I came back to VS2010 I had a problem. When I tried to open my solution I got an error "Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 has stopped working" and it invited me to Look on-line for a solution, or to Debug (pointless) or Close the program. I tried a few more times. Always the same. I thought of creating a new solution and importing the projects into it - the program closes down when you try to do anything at all. So I tried repairing it. No difference. I then tried Uninstalling and Reinstalling it. Aside from the fact that the dreaded message "Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 has stopped working" popping up at least ten times during uninstalling and reinstalling it, no further changes. I'm now in the process of uninstalling for the second time.

I'm not aware of any other changes to my system (updates etc.) and there are no missing service packs. The solution runs quite happily on a colleague's installation of VS2010 (installed from the same media, onto the same OS).

I'm baffled. Anyone any thoughts? There are no other messages, nor any d

Circualr Dependency (DLL References) Problem in VS 2010

I am using the WWF 4.0 workflows and .Net4.0 solution. I am invoking the workflows through the workflow application object. My project workflows are not services. I would like to invoke the workflows in Business layer and with the workflows I have to use the Buisness logic functions to automate business process. But I am facing the Circular dependency problem in VS2010. Can anybody explain how to resolve the issue. I know I have to split the DLLs but in this case there is strong dependency between the workflow and Business layer. How can I resolve the issue.rajeevkalyan

Visual Studio 2010, MVC2.0, IIS7, .NET4 deployment problem

I have a problem where I can get an MVC2.0 application using .NET3.5 running in IIS, but when I upgrade it to .NET4.0, the browser just reports error 500 Internal Server Error. The problem is easy to replicate as follows. Firstly, to show it works with .NET3.5: Create a new MVC2.0 application in Visual Studio 2010, using the inbuilt starter template. Run the application using the development server, and the Home & About pages display fine. Publish the application to a directory. Copy the directory to a subdirectory under inetpub/wwwroot on my Vista computer, running IIS7 Create a new application in IIS Manager & select the DefaultAppPool (integrated pipeline) Browse the application and Home & About pages are displayed. Then the problem I have is after upgrading to .NET4.0: Change to .NET4.0 for the project in Visual Studio Build & this runs fine with the development server. Publish the application & set up IIS as before, except choosing the application pool ASP.NET v4.0 (integrated pipeline) Browse the application, and I get the 500 Internal Server Error I'm guessing there is some extra configuration required - can anyone help? I've deliberately used the default MVC installation to eliminate any variables caused by my programming .. Thanks in advance, Steve

Problem with new VWD 2010 install

Greetings all, i've just installed VWD 2010 - with no apparent installation issues. When I start the program the application frame is created (titled Visual Web Developer 2010 Express) - but nothing else is created. The screen is all black with white where the Solution Explorer pane would be. Any ideas? Thanks, jon

problem rename sharepoint 2010 search service application admin database

Hi all, i have a problem that hopefully someone has an answer to. i am not too familiar with sharepoint so please excuse my ignorance. we have sharepoint 2010 on a windows 2008r2 server. everything seems to work fine. but as you know, the default database names are horrendous. i have managed to rename all of them, except for the "search service application" admin database. the default is: Search_Service_Application_DB_
the other 2 databases (crawl and property) were renamed without a problem. we are following the article from technet on how to rename the search service admin db (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-nz/library/ff851878%28en-us%29.aspx). it says to enter the following command: $searchapp | Set-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication -DatabaseName "new database name" -DatabaseServer "dbserver" however, i get an error about identity being null. no big deal, i add the -Identity switch and the name of my search service application. but the real problem comes the error it throws: Set-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication : The requested database move was aborted as the associated search application is not paused. At line:1 char:54 + $searchapp | Set-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication <<<< -Identity "Search Service Application" -DatabaseName "ShareP

Problem With SharePoint Designer 2010 and the Search.asmx Web Service

I've created a web service datasource on a 2010 site using SharePoint Designer. When I try to make use of the datasource on a page I get the "The server returned a non-specific error when trying to get data from the data source..." message. The datasource connects to _vti_bin/search.asmx. I am using the QueryServiceSoap port and operation QueryX. I've tried various queryXml strings, including site & people searches using both SQL and keyword syntax. eg <QueryPacket xmlns="urn:Microsoft.Search.Query" Revision="1000"><Query domain="QDomain"> <SupportedFormats><Format>urn:Microsoft.Search.Response.Document.Document</Format></SupportedFormats> <Context> <QueryText language="en-US" type="MSSQLFT"> SELECT Size, Rank, Path, Title, Description, Write, Filename, Description, Author FROM scope() WHERE CONTAINS ('"Lorum"') AND ( ("SCOPE" = 'All Sites') ) ORDER BY "Rank" DESC </QueryText> </Context> <Range><StartAt>1</StartAt><Count>20</Count></Range> <EnableStemming>false</EnableStemming> <TrimDuplicates>true</TrimDuplicates> <IgnoreAllNoiseQuery>true&l

Problem Saving Files to A Sharepoint 2010 Site from Office 2010: Saves locally by default rather tha

Hi we are starting to use sharepoint 2010 / word 2010 and have found an interesting bug/problem. Sometimes when a user tries to save a file (by clicking on the save button in the quick access toolbar for word 2010) the save dialog comes up with the users local "Documents" folder as the path (not the correct sharepoint path where the document should be saved). (I should say that we are creating the file from sharepoint by using a toolbar on the document library, with the new button) We are using a content type and a template attached to the document library when we create the file. This is really annoying because the user might not notice that the document is saving locally and not to sharepoint. I have found a strange workaround which involves clicking the [File] tab on the ribbon in word 2010, then clicking "Save and Send" and then clicking the save button again. At this point word 2010 seems to "remember" that it is trying to save document to sharepoint and shows the sharepoint document library. This is a real nuisance which could lead to documents being lost/misfiled if people don't realize that this is happening. Can anyone help me? Thanks Kevin krd

Sharepoint 2010 FullTextSqlQuery query problem with where condition

Hello, i´m developing a webpart under Sharepoint 2010, i need to launch some different query´s to filter data but i´m having problems. First of all, i launch this query and i get all the users; SELECT PreferredName, LastName, Department, OfficeNumber, JobTitle, WorkEmail, PictureUrl FROM Scope() WHERE ("scope" = 'Personas') ORDER BY "Rank" DESC with that results i fill different dropdownlist with each of the columns, then I can filter for each column. For example: I filter by PreferredName, Lastname or WorkEmail, with this query SELECT PreferredName, LastName, Department, OfficeNumber, JobTitle, WorkEmail, PictureUrl FROM Scope() WHERE ("scope" = 'Personas') AND (("LastName" Like '%MOSS%')) ORDER BY "Rank" DESC But when i try to use the columns Department, OfficeNumber and Jobtitle every query returns 0 rows. SELECT PreferredName, LastName, Department, OfficeNumber, JobTitle, WorkEmail, PictureUrl FROM Scope() WHERE ("scope" = 'Personas') AND (("Department" Like '%Dirección%')) ORDER BY "Rank" DESC The main thing is if i get all the data i see that these columns (officeNumber, Jobtitle, Department) are not empty. Some of them have values some of them don´t. All the columns have the property "Reduce storage recquirement for text propert

Good day, I recently upgraded a server of mine with a simple ASP site to server 2008 and it sent emails from exchange 2003 with no problems after the upgrade to server 2008. Here is the code: private void SendTextMessageCC(string fromAddress, string fromName, string toAddress, string subject, string body, string ccAddress) { try { MailAddress fromAdd = new MailAddress(fromAddress, fromName); MailAddress toAdd = new MailAddress(toAddress); MailAddress ccAdd = new MailAddress(ccAddress); MailMessage msg = new MailMessage(fromAdd, toAdd); msg.Subject = subject; msg.Body = body; msg.CC.Add(ccAdd); SmtpClient client = new SmtpClient("deexch1.****.com"); // localhost client.Send(msg); // msg.DeliveryNotificationOptions = 0; // 2 means OnFailure was 1 but that was error 0 okay means "None" } catch (SmtpException s) { lblSuccess.Text = s.Message; } } Now this week I upgraded my Exchange Server to 2010 and changed the smtpclient string accordingly above to SmtpClient("draw-mail1.****.com"). It will not send emails from the se
