I create a lot of website using ASP.Net and VB. I am now looking to write something a little more and I am not sure where to turn.
I am looking to create a website that users create accounts on, so obviously ASP.Net and VB are fine for that, but the website is just a, well lets call it a portal for information passing.
Once the users registers on the website, I want to create a desktop application that user installs and enters a key that they are provided from the website. That key is used to verify the user desktop application and access the websites database and extract information that is writen to an xml document on their local computer.
The client side app then displays the information from the XML document.
There will be a lot of 2 way data binding from the client side applications xml doc and the server side website and website database.
I've been trying to figure out exactly how to say what I am trying to create, and the closest thing that I can think of would be something like a p2p application that takes it's direction from a webserver as to where to retrieve the information requested. Unlike p2p it's not a file being downloaded but an xml datasource being databinded to a desktop control on the client side, from another client.
