Problem installing Cumulative Update 6 for SQL 2008 SP1 on Windows XP

I am attempting to apply SQL Server 20008 SP1 Cumulative Update 6 on my Windows XP desktop. The update executable is unpacked and I get a brief flash of a Command Screen and then nothing. I have searched for any update files but have not found any. My Desktop Configuration: Windows XP SP3, Windows Installer 4. SQL Server 2008 SP1 Developer Edition. I am also attempting to install the Client Tools for SQL 2008R2 on this same desktop and am getting the same results. I click on SETUP and get a brief flash of the Command Screen and the installation does not continue. Internet searches speak of a problem with a registry entry in the Boostrap Key for a valid Setup directory, but this key exists in my desktop registry. Thanks,

Installing SQL Server 2005 Enterprise in Windows 7 Professional

i have Windwos 7 Professional Installed in my computer. also i have installed Visual Studio 2008 as well.

last week i wanted to install SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition in my computer so i came to know that u need the SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 for this as well.

after obtaining both the Enterprise Edition Setup and the SP3 Setup of SQL Server 2005, i began the installation. first i installed the server. and selected The Server and Workstation components. but when the installation was progressing, it gave a message that the workstation componenets could not be installed and hence only the MSSQLSERVER Service got installed. i take think this so seriously hoping that client tools (workstation componenets) can be installed after the SP3 is being installed. so after the setup completed, i installed SP3 as well. even there, the client tools were disabled.

after SP3 installation and System Restart, i couldnt find Managament Studio; so i again went to the SQL server 2005 setup and selected the client tools to be installed. but just before the installation started, an error message prompted saying that "one or more componenets could not be installed" and then exiting the setup..

please advise what i am missing. i tried the same thing using SQL Server 2005 Standard but the same thing happens.

I'm trying to install SQL 2005 Enterprise 32-bit on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.  I get a message 'This program has known compatibility issues.....you must apply SQL server 2005 SP3 before you run SQL Server...'

Later on (in System Configuration Check), I get 3 warnings:

Problem installing Windows installer 4.5 on vista service pack 1

Problem Installing SQL Server 2008 on Windows Server 2008 R2

I have a fresh install of Server 2008 R2.  I am attempting to install SQL Server 2008 (x64).  Both products downloaded in the last couple of days via MAPS.

On my first attempt at a SQL installation, a dialog box pops up warning of "compatibility issues".  I searched for a solution, and it was suggested to install SQL 2008 SP1, before re-running the main SQL setup, and then to apply SP1 again after SQL Server is installed.

So, I have installed SQL 2008 SP1 with no problems.  When I then ran the main SQL setup, it tells me that I need to install .NET 3.5.  So, I do this from Server Manager -> Add Features (.NET Features 3.5.1).  That installs fine.  I then re-run SQL setup, and it tells me that I need to apply .NET 3.5 SP1.

I then downloaded .NET 3.5 SP1 and when I try to apply it, it tells me that I must use the "Role Management Tool" to install .NET 3.5 SP1.

This is where my problem lies.  Is .NET 3.5.1 (as previously installed using the Role Manager) not the same as .NET 3.5 SP1?  If so, then why does the SQL Server installer tell me that I need to install it, when it is already installed?

I am well and truly stuck at this point.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Windows authentication SQL 2005 on Windows 2008R2 problem and SP streaming

Hello all,

At our customers site we are building a POC (Prove Of Concept) setup and ran into problems. First of all we install SQL 2005 Standard without ServicePack. After this we apply Service pack 3 for SQL. Now we have the problem that the domain admins are not able to connect to the instance in any way. Error is 18456 with state 11. After searching the web I found out that due to UAC, local admins are no longer sysadmins on SQL by default. So I did these two commands:

EXEC sp_grantlogin 'domain\Domain Admins'

EXEC sp_addsrvrolemember 'domain\Domain Admins', 'sysadmin'

Where I of course replaced domain with the appropriate domain name. For Domain Admins this does not seem to work! Also applied it to BUILTIN\Administrators. The local administrator can connect. I then created a new domain group named 'DBadmins'. I applied the exact same commands as stated before to this group, members of this new group can login. When I add the group Domain Admins to the group DBadmins, they do can login. This is of course not a desirable construction. I want all Domain Admins to have access. So I have 2 questions:

1> How can I make sure the Domain Admins group
