Having Trouble Connecting to BDC

Hello Share Point experts,

For the first time I'm trying to connect to BDC in SharePoint. I created the Application Definition File and successfully uploaded it to the page. Here is the Authentication part of my ADF:

    <AccessControlEntry Principal="domain\admin">
      <Right BdcRight="Execute"/>
      <Right BdcRight="Edit"/>
      <Right BdcRight="SetPermissions"/>
      <Right BdcRight="SelectableInClients"/>
    <AccessControlEntry Principal="domain\admin">

Trouble Connecting to a Database

I downloaded a sample DB from here: http://msftdbprodsamples.codeplex.com/releases/view/4004   Specifically, this is the ‘ AdventureWorksLT.msi ’ So, I loaded it into my SSMSE, right-click Databases > Attach > Database > Attach > etc., etc.   Now, in C# (Express) I goto Add new Datasource > Database > Next > New Connection > Browse . . . navigate to the folder that holds the AdventureWorksLT.mdf Select it and click Open and then I get this message: AdventureWorksLT_Data You don’t have permission to open this file Contact the file owner or an administrator to obtain permission.   I don’t think I’ve ever seen this message before, and I am the administrator.  What am I doing wrong here?  Also, what so I need to do to get this working? Thanks! Ryan---

Trouble connecting to MSDE from workstations

I have an app I created that uses MSDE. I have a couple of customers running it and there is no need at this time to move away from MSDE.

A new customer I'm working with has 3 machines we've installed things on. I installed an instance of MSDE on an XP machine. It's running fine and my app can connect without any problems.

We just tried to connect from a Windows 7 box and couldn't. Can't ODBC from it either. So I thought maybe this was a Windows 7 issue but I have an XP box and a 7 box for development where I can connect just fine to my SQL 2000 db's from my 7 box no problem. Didn't have to do anything unusual to do that either.

So I had him fire up an XP machine so I could try from there. That didn't work either. Just for the heck of it I decided to check the workgroup names on each computer. They are all different. They network together just fine though. They can all see each other. The sql data folder is even shared and can be accessed from each machine but I don't remember ever having to do that.

I've verified the tcp/ip port # as well via server config and client config. They match. I don't use 1433. The sql server was restarted after the change so that's not the issue.

I'm wondering if it's got something to do with the workgroups being different but that doesn't seem right either.

Any help would be appreciated.

trouble remotely connecting to SQL 2008 Express

This one has me stumped.  My SQL 2008 Express resides on a remote Server 2003.  My client resides on Windows 7.  I VPN into the remote server and have always been able to access the database until recently and I do not know what has changed.  I access via SQL authentication and I have insured that the user is valid along with his password.  I have gone through the complete checklist and to the best of my knowledge, have set all parameters and security settings properly. I can get to the remote desktop via RDC and can access the database and tables perfectly yet when I attempt the remote access I receive an error "-40" along with an error "2".  I have googled both and followed all instructions but am still locked out.  Oh, these errors seem to relate to the remote server not being accessible.

Trouble with UpdateProgress showing...

Recently I converted a project to VS.NET2010 and ASP.NET 4.0 (not convinced this is the problem, but regardless this is when the problem began) and now I am having an issue with an AJAX UpdateProgress showing. Here is the abrriviated code:

Connecting to MS SQL Server database using webmatrix.

I am novice  user to raizor syntax using webmatrix and i am trying to connect MS Sql server database (instead of using .sdf file i am using .mdf file) using the tool webmatrix for startersite.

The connection string that i setup as follows.

Help with connecting to SqlExpress 2005 remotely

So I've intalled SQL 2005 Express and Sql Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE). I don't have any problems connecting to it using Windows authentication. But I would like to set it up so that I can log in using Sql Server Authentication with a username and password.

My Problem

But I'm getting an error message of "A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occured during the login process. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0- No process is on the other end of the pipe) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 233).

What I've done

I've created a new "Login" in the Security node. Provided all necessary role access level. Granted permission to connect to database and enabled login.

I've used the Sql Server Surface Area Configuration to set the Remote Connection type to "Using TCP/IP only" or "Using Both TCP/IP and named pipes" (tried both, but in either situation I get the same error message when attempting to login to SSMSE with the user name and password). I also made sure to restart the service.

What do I need to do to fix this problem?

Problems connecting stored procedure to Crystal Reports

I am working on updating a reporting system that uses Crystal Reports.  All of the 250+ reports were created in CR 8 and I have been opening up the old files in Visual Studio 2005 and updating the database location.  All I have had to do with all connections to views and even a couple of stored procedures is create a new connection to the database and then update the old report's datasource location.  The reason I need to update the location is so that the .NET application will use the correct driver.  Everything has worked fine up until I got to one stored procedure.  The old version of the report works perfectly with the stored procedure, but when I try to run the report using VS 2005 I keep getting errors.

First I connected to the database using the Oracle OLE DB provider, then updated the location of the stored procedure in the report.  It then prompts me for the two parameter values for the stored procedure, both of which I keep as NULL so that the report parameters will be passed to the procedure.  Then I get the following error:

Query Engine Error: 'ADO Error Code: 0x
Source: OraOLEDB
Description: ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'STORED_PROCEDURE'

Connecting to Oracle on 64bit OS

We have a 64-bit implementation of MOSS 2007. I recently installed the SharePoint SDK to use the Application Definition Designer to connect to Oracle. I enter the connection string and then I get this:

Attempt to load Oracle client libraries threw BadImageFormatException. The problem will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components installed.

I have verified that the server contains the 64 bit version of the Oracle client installed both with the instantclient and with system.data.oracleclient.dll. The only thing I can think of is that the tool was compiled as a 32bit application.  Is there a 64bit version available? Is there something else that I'm missing?

Connecting to Sharepoint Using Windows XP Home

I'm new in using sharepoint and tried to use my windows xp home computer to connect on the company's network. However, when I am trying to join sharepoint as a client computer, I come up with the following message:

Run the wizard to complete networking setup

Problem however, is that the wizard doesn't run.

While I found info describing this issue for win 7 and vista, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926505, I can't find any regarding XP home.

Can someone kindly assist?

Error connecting using SPSite

Has anyone seen this error message?

The Web application at http://ecnet/Pages/Default.aspx could not be found. Verify that you have typed the URL correctly. If the URL should be serving existing content, the system administrator may need to add a new request URL mapping to the intended application.

Errors on the line.

SPSite site = new SPSite("http://ecnet/Pages/Default.aspx");

It's a clean console application running on the SharePoint 2007 web server.

Any thoughts? I can't seem to connect to the Server like I used to in SharePoint 2003.

Trouble with Font Definition in Accordion Control

 VWD 2008 Express.

I have a page on which I have an accordion control.  The accordion control seems to be overriding the font definition I have for the page body in my CSS stylesheet.  Here is what is happening.  Can anyone help?  Thanks.

1.  When I open the page and the top panel opens, it displays with the correct font family, size, etc.

2.  If I close and reopen the top panel, it displays with another font family and looks bad.

3.  All subsequent panels, when opened, display the font in a different family than specified in my CSS stylesheet.

This is what I have in the stylesheet both for the body and for the .accordioncontent:

    background-color: #E4E1C2;
    background: url(../images/background.jpg) repeat left top;
    font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman" , Times, serif;
    color: #666666;
    font-size: 12pt;
    border-top: none;
    padding-top: 10px;
    font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman" , Times, serif;
    color: #666666;
    font-size: 12pt;
