Problem with large data output after migration from 2000 to SQL 2008 R2

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

We have Windows Advanced Server 2000 and SQL Enterprise Edt. 2000. Our application is client-server application.
On server we have Server Components they use - IIS, COM+, message queueing and SQL.
On client side is VB 6.0 client. Client sends XML request to our IIS.

Now, we are trying to do migration from 2000 to 2008 Environment (x32).

We install Windows Enterprise Edt. 2008 and SQL Enterprise Edt. 2008 R2.

DBA did conversion of our 2000 database, and now it is on SQL 2008 R2.
On server we also install Server Components they use IIS 7, COM+, message queueing and SQL.

We have problems with big quantity of data.
On server, through SQL Analyser - when we send a query - it works - very quickly.

On client when we send same search it fails. It depend on question, client sometimes failed after 30 sec, sometimes after 50 sec.

I don't know where to start looking?
I check IIS 7, time out, etc.

- could it be that SQL 2008 R2 sends some other type of data, then client expects?
- could it be some xml parser error?
- or somewhere on Windows 2008 or IIS ?

This looks for me like "cloudy" question, but pls if anyone have some idea let me know.

thank you for your time,

SSRS 2008 Export to PDF fails for large data with System.Exception: Parameter is not valid

Hi, We are working on Range Bar Chart using SSRS 2008. The report has huge data. It is properly displaying the data, but when we tried to export to pdf it is failing with the following exception. Exporting to excel works fine. Also if the report has small/medium data it is property exporting to PDF. It is failing only in case of huge data (we have custom page size of 28" X 14"). Of course the report has lot of expressions we used to customize the colors/text as per our requirements.   Server Error in '/Reports_SQLDEV2008' Application. Parameter is not valid. Problem with SQL server 2008 UDF and model data entities

Hi everyone. I'm very new with this technology and still have to learn lot's of stuff...

I managed to start with basic MVC design but i'm now stuck on adding functions to model..

I created view in mssql

SELECT table1.Field1, table2.Field2
FROM table1 INNER JOIN table2 ON table1.Field1 = table2.Field1

and function

CREATE FUNCTION fnGetMyViewResult(@paramField nvarchar)
RETURN SELECT * FROM MyFirstView WHERE MyFirsView.Field1 = @paramField

but when i run entity data model wizzard from VS 2010 i can chose only from tables, views and stored procedures. There is no way (atleast no way i know about) to add my sql function to MVC model...

I can see function in ServerExplorer but not in wizzard....

Can someone help me with this?

Thanks in advance..

WSS 3.0 seach fail after migration from Windows Server 2003 with SQL 2000 to Windows Server 2008 wit

Hello we have a WSS 3.0 on a Windows Server 2003 with a single site, and we are trying to migrate it to another server with Windows Server 2008. All database are on a Microsoft SQL Server 2000.

We installed WSS 3.0 from scratch on the new server. We put the default databases on a server with Microsoft SQL Server 2008.

Then we made a backup in the production server with the following command: stsadm -o backup -url https://portal -filename musa.bak

After that we restored the backup in the new server with the following command:  stsadm -o restore -url https://uymvd18 -filename c:\sharepoint\portal-2010-10-05-21-00-06.dat -overwrite

(portal is the name of the old server and uymvd18 is the name of the new one)

Everything worked ok, but the when we try to do a search in the new se

SSAS 2008 data refresh problem in Excel 2007

My problem sounds like that:

I have some cube created with SSAS 2008 and I'm using Excel 2007 as browser to view cube data.

I made pivot table with nessesary data, everything works fine till I save excel file and sent it to my client.

When client uses some filter, some row measures disapear. Dimension data are shown, measures are blank cells, but calculations from those measures is filled.

e.g. I see difference of sales between years in percent, but I can't see measures, which were used to count that difference, because in excel I see blank cells.

Any ideas?

Using Conditional Split data Transfer in SSIS 2008

This article uses the Integration Services Conditional Split Data Transformation element to filter and transfer data from a set of flat text files to SQL Server database table. The concept can be easily extended to apply to any other source or destination such as Microsoft Excel. This scenario is useful in creating denormalized database tables in a reporting and analysis situation.

MySql.Data assembly problem

I added refernece MySql.Data to my project. My web.config looks like that:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
                <add assembly="MySql.Data, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=C5687FC88969C44D"/>

But when in ServerExplorer I try "Add Connection..." I can't find "MySql Database" in the "Choose Data Source" dialog box?

What the problem can be?

Data Points: Using XQuery, New Large DataTypes, and More

SQL Server 2005 introduces a lot of new features, but it also enhances the popular and oft-used Transact-SQL (T-SQL) language. Changes include the introduction of new datatypes to store large values using the MAX indicator, the integration of enhanced XML querying and data modification with XQuery, and the new XML datatype.

SQL ServerT 2000 includes several XML features that let you transform relational rowsets into hierarchical XML documents, read XML documents, and bulk load data via XML. For example, you can pass an XML document to a stored procedure, join the XML to some tables and return a rowset, or even modify data in the database.

Metadata: Create a Database Schema Repository with Meta Data Services in SQL Server 2000

SQL Server 2000 Meta Data Services is a repository technology that stores and manages metadata for SQL Server. Instead of building database schemas over and over, Meta Data Services allows you to freeze an entire schema for use in other projects. You can also use these schemas for training, testing, or debugging. In this article, the authors will review the various components of Meta Data Services and show how it can be programmed using a Visual Basic client, XML, and XSLT. They will also show you how to manage and manipulate your metadata by generating a simple database schema using a SQL Server repository.

Scripting SQL: VBScript Interfaces in SQL Server 2000 Let You Transform Data and Provide Reports to

Application service providers often must send information to clients automatically rather than on-demand. For example, a manufacturer may want to know each day how many of their products were sold by a retail chain. While SQL Server is ideal for maintaining this type of database, you have to write scripts to get the data out in a client-friendly format. Here you will see how you can use Data Transformation Services (DTS), a powerful tool in SQL Server, to automate the retrieval and formatting of data from SQL Server 2000 and make the process of pushing data to your users a lot easier.
