SQL Instance Installation on Passive Node

HI guys , Have you faced this .I am not able to remove the SQL Server 2008 ENT node .The error is : Overall summary:   Final result:                  Failed: see details below   Exit code (Decimal):           -2068643838   Exit facility code:            1203   Exit error code:               2   Exit message:                  The state of your SQL Server installation was not changed after the setup execution. We originally had an Active /Active-Passive Node Cluster; (SQLCLUSTER1 (S1) and SQLCLUSTER2 (S2). After a client who needed access to SQLCLUSTER2 was unable to connect, I discovered that the TCP Ports somehow got corrupted.  I couldn’t find a 1433 port. So, I obviously had to do a reinstall.  NOTE: S1 contains the R and S drives (SANs).  S2 contained the T and U drives (SANs as well).   I used the following site to check my install: http://www.sql-server-performance.com/articles/clustering/cluster_server_2003_p1.aspx  By: Brad McGehee   While installing a failover (active/passive node) everything was going well, until I got to the Cluster Group Selection screen.  Under Available cluster groups showed: Cluster Mgmt Group (this Group contains the Quorum Q drive). Under the Unavailable cluster groups showed:  SQL Cluster Group (SQLCLUSTER1) – Already contains a SQL Virtual Server and the next one, SQLCLUSTER2 – Already contains a SQL Virtual Server. Under Data files:  I tried to place the data on the T: drive and I received an error stating that I cannot put data on the same drive as the Quorum drive.   Prior to the reinstall of S2, I deleted/removed all SQL Server data on S2.  Perhaps, this is where my problem may lie. So, my first question is, do I need to reinstall S2? My second question is, could there be

Hello, I would like to be able to use SQL Management Studio on the passive node in our cluster if there's a failover and Passive Node becomes Active Node.  It seems like the Add Node install didn't load SQL Management Studio on our passive node. Any help is appreciated. Thanks,  Morrisos

Yesterday when I was trying to bind the port 1433 to the IP Address, the Bind didn't work.  I ran 'Netstat -an' and noticed that there wasn't a port 1433 for listening.  I found on MSDN how to manually uninstall a SQL Server Failover Cluster (msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms180973) .  My question when I proceed is with the uninstall of SQL2 , will this affect our SQL1 Active Node?

We have a SQL cluster server running with SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition SP2 on Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition.

Currently the cluster has 2 nodes with Active/Active. Now I need to add a new node as a Passive node. So after I have done it, the cluster will be a Active/Active/Passive cluster.

 

Because the cluster is a production server, I need to know exactly how I add a new node onto the current cluster without breaking anything. Also this is my first time to install a passive node, so it is difficult for me to understand how to install and configure it.

 

I have already added the physical node onto the cluster group so I can see the new node 'paused' from the Cluster Administrator.  Now I need to install the SQL but I am too nervous to run the installation p

Hi everyone.

I've got a small failover cluster that I run for the websites my company has. During a RAM upgrade of the standby server, our websites started to show errors about not being able to access the database server. I verified that the instance was indeed up and the server accessable via remote desktop.
I also tried a SQL connection to it and it worked, but that might have been after it became available again.

This happened on and off until we were able to roll back the hardware changes that were in progress on the standby server and we were able to bring it back up.

There was nothing of interest in the SQL Server log, but there is a continous log for the whole duration of the problem, so there was no restart of the SQL Server service. The event viewer is of more interest, since it shows events relating to the heartbeat network card, but I don't know how that would affect the availability of the server, since the standby node is offline. I'd appreciate any help you can provide, it's not very redundant if it also depends on the standby server being up. :)

The install appeared to go okay. On the active node everything installed fine. However, when we looked at the other node only the configuration tools got installed. I understand that that the management tools only get installed on the primary node. Should I run setup on the secondary node to install the tools? I also went through the summary log for the install and  noticed that almost everything that was installed on the active node was  also installed on the passive node. Full text search missing from one instance on one node of 3 node MSSQL 2008 cluster    Hello to all,  I just started at a new client and on becoming familiar with the environment, I noticed that one of our instances on one node is missing the full text search option. The instance is not active on this node but I fear that if we ever need to failover it wont work. The full text option is installed on the active node instance and the other passive node.
